I am looking to buy a 55 inch TV for my bedroom. Shortlisted the Sony X82L and the Sony Bravia 3, looking for help / suggestions on the below -
1. Any feedback on these TVs, which is better?
2. The prices are around 72k post discounts, is that a good price or can I expect it to go down further during Diwali sales?

The X82L seems to be only available online.

Avoid Hyundai. If you are looking for economical options then TCL or Iffalcon are better brands in the same price range with comparatively better after sales service.

Can I go for 65" TV size with 10 feet viewing distance in living room? 55" size seems to be apt as per the online recommendation charts, but do not want to regret later that I should have gone for a bigger size. Also do not know if the size recommendations hold good with the newer versions of display panels like OLED.

Checked out TVs in a physical store. Sony seems to be the best in picture quality, followed by LG/ Samsung/ Panasonic, followed by other brands like TCL/ Impex etc.

I am currently using a 15 year old 42" inch panasonic plasma, which is still good in picture quality. It fails to give away. The Panasonic picture quality looks good, any idea if the current Panasonic offerings are good in terms of durability and support?

That's a legendary TV, known for its picture quality. New TVs cant be compared. I have it, but that room isn't being used

65" is good for 10 feet viewing distance. Although for gaming, no size is ever too big

I recently bought a 65" with a viewing distance that varies between 6 to 12 feet, depending on where I get to sit in the living room! I feel that for 12 feet even 75" would have been good, which was my original plan. Go for 65"

10 feet distance is apt for 50-55" TV size. It is considered less for 65" TV as it would put unnecessary strain on eyes. 12 feet distance is needed for 65" size.

Size recommendations varies based on the content resolution. Assuming most of the contents are 4K, optimal viewing distance for 65" is around 6-7 ft.

Nice to see we have a thread for everything. Today my Samsung S95C died on me just after 1 year and 1 month This is my 3rd OLED and Samsung was the quickest one to die. The support guy said he will try to convince and fix it but I have my doubts.

Lesson learned, if anyone is getting an OLED do get it during festive season where brand offers additional warranty. This additional warranty will be a life saver later. Else opt for LG models which gives 5 year panel warranty.

Samsung OLED TV back plastic cover is so filmsy that if opened for repair it gets damaged. I wonder why they did not give a metal casing for a flagship product. Metal back case could have also helped in better heat dissipation.

Sad to see manufacturers cut corners now a days. I remember the Sony CRT we used to have worked just fine for 15 years.

We have used many Sony CRT TVs since 1980s (initial ones from middle east - Made in Japan) and they served us for more than 20 years. The replacements were mainly due to upgrade itch. The Philips CRT (32") which I got as upgrade from Sony died after a couple of years and the replacement was Panasonic Plasma TV. The Panasonic plasma (42") in living room is going strong with great picture quality even after 15 years - very rough usage by children all these years. Though I am tempted to upgrade to a bigger size, the issues reported in the current flagships is demotivating. Family is also happy with the current TV.

The LG LED in one of the bedrooms has also given many issues in a few years. Got the motherboard repaired from outside as LG quoted a big amount for replacement.

Yes, that is the case with every home appliance now. The LG microwave served us without any issues for 18 years. We replaced it recently with a Samsung which was not working out of the box and replaced by Samsung customer care. Faced another issue of spark in just a couple of months and the door is already making sound while opening/ closing.

Similarly the IFB washing machine we got 23 years back is still working with some minor replacements required. Dont think a new model would serve us so long.

I got the LG OLED A3 last month, but nowhere it is mentioned that it comes with 5 years panel warranty. It just has 1 year of overall warranty and I believe 3 years for the panel.

I even doubled checked this with their technician who has come for the installation.

Not all models get 5 years of panel warranty, only the flagship G series gets this. However, during the festive season, they offer about 3 years warranty. You can see last years offer here.

I will never again opt for Samsung unless they offer better warranty terms. I am still waiting for repair details or cost estimation.

I am using Mi LED TV 55 inches for the past almost 5 years. Recently i noticed a minor flickering on the left side of the TV. It is very subtle but once seen, cannot be unseen. Created a ticket and the technician came within 2 hours!

As per his diagnosis, the panel is gone. He said the panel needs to be replaced. I bought the TV for back in Dec 2019 for 32K. Now the new panel itself costs 30K. So didn't go ahead with the change. He said the TV might have been damaged since there was no stabilizer. I somehow don't find this convincing. Anyway, he also mentioned that the panel will degrade slowly and flickering will become more prominent and might cover the enter panel.

So now i am compelled to look for newer options. How are brands like TCL, Hisence etc? I am looking at QLED now and these brands have relatively affordable TVs in the 65 inches size. For eg. TCL C61B QLED, Toshiba M650Mp mini led, Hisense Q7n QLED, Hisense U7k mini led. There is also Oneplus TV at about 79K. How are the reviews on these? Is it a good option to invest in these ones?

My Panasonic GX750 55” conked out yesterday morning, after 5 years of use. Logged service call and technician reached home by afternoon. Did a few checks and informed display panel had to be replaced as it was shorted due to dust (?!), quote 38k for replacement.

The TV was used extensively and anyway made no sense to dish out that kind of money for repair, so went out and picked up an LG QNED82T 55 incher from MyG here in Kozhikode. Got a deal of 55k on SBI credit card (with rider of minimum 3-month EMI).

While the LG seems good enough for OTT streaming and gaming, the punchy blacks on Panasonic are terribly missed!
