Hi Guys.
I need a new digital camera.

Budget is Strictly 15000.
Don't need anything big or DSLRs.
Need something which can click great photos and is easy to carry around. Even in the pocket if possible.

I asked a friend and he recommended me [FONT=&quot]either the Canon Digital IXUS 100IS or the Nikon Coolpix S60.
Which one would be better or any other better than these?

Abhinav ji, will certainly recommend you to take a Look at nearest SONY Showroom.
with this budget, you can get a Good Sony Digital Cam.

I think Sony is one of the best options for Low Budget but nice pics, may be this is my own reading after using Canon and Sony Extensively for personal use.

I think there's a Decent touch screen option too in sony under 15k.

My parents need a camera
Their needs:
1. Point and shoot, pocket-able.
2. 28 mm wide angle at least. (24mm would be great)
3. Macro facility
4. Decent battery life.
5. 4x to 5x optical zoom.
6. Budget about $250.

They go on Himalayan treks where they dont necessarily have charging facilities.
Panasonic ZS1/TZ6
Got one for $269 plus 4 GB card free.

Extremely happy with the purchase. Shot a few test photos before handing over to parents. Everything seems OK. Model is made in Japan
Man ! That 25mm wide angle seems so much wider than 18mm (28mm EFL) on my XSi
Only grouse from my point of view is there is no full manual mode. But parents are happy with it. So it doesnt matter.

Planning to add extra battery for $25.99.

I have recently noticed that even if I use a stable tripod, I can never get sharp pictures from my S2 IS when zoomed in.

or is it that's how it is? nothing to do with age of camera.
When zoomed in even the shake introduced by pressing the shutter button will effect sharpness, so try to use self timer and then see if there is any difference.

Have been trying to get an LX3 myself for over two weeks. Had finally two offers as no one in grey market/ none of the retailer in Kochi carried this.

1. Panasonic brand shop offered to get one for me(They do not have it in stock) If I paid an advance. MSRP is 32,990 and they offered a 2000 discount. This comes with a 3 yr warranty.
2. ebay.in has some imported pieces for 26,200(Used to be 27,500 until last week..guess no one picked them) with 1 year dealer warranty. thought the difference is worth it as even if it breaks, the repair would probably not cost more than 3/4k.But it has been a week after I ordered and he still has not shipped it(He called yesterday and said it would be shipped out today).

I did call most of the reputed sellers in Kochi, Bangalore and Chennai and no one carried it. I checked in Dubai and Kuwait and no one had it. If you are from Mumbai ro Delhi, I guess you should be able to find it from one of the grey market, but you are not likely to get anythign from the authorized retailers except Panasonic Brand shops...

My source is still looking, expect an update in 2 days . Somehow, as much as I shopped for most of my stuff on Ebay in the states, I'm not that comfortable dealing with ebay india sellers. I hope the deal works out well for you. He seems to have good ratings. Do update us.

actually it was set on intervalometer. But quite likely the sea breeze may have been responsible. will try again in different situations.

If the autofocus works from feedback on sensor, then this should not be an issue at all. unless the lens is just not able to get the perfect focus.

How is the Olympus MJU - 9000. Anyone using this or tested this?
P.S. I would also like to have 720p or similar recording if possible.

And also how is the Sony T900 Digital Camera? Though its out of budget but is it worth it?
It looks really slim and can do 720p recording too.

Hey Abhinav,

I think the best option is Canon SX110 IS...10X optical zoom and a brilliant camera.
for 14.5K you will get it with Warranty for two years from canon

I saw this on the net.
Canon PowerShot SX200IS

I asked a friend and he said that's its good.
Needed to know if someone has experience in it.
I'm getting it for around 22000 + around 500-700 for the 8 Gb Card Upgrade.

Is the price worth it?

Never seen or used it, but as per July issue of "Better Photography", its optical quality is not up to the mark and cost is high and they suggest to look at other options in Canon's own range of digital compacts.

The only issue I saw with the SX200 was the silly pop up flash. Sometimes it refused to sit back down.

Yes, that too was mentioned in the review, as also inconsistent IS.
