Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Just check if the set Travel Date and Destination shows up in the viewer when you switch on Time & Date stamp while taking pics. Should be accessible via Menu. If so, this would appear as part of the pictures taken.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I can see the exact details when I play back on the images on the camera. So thats how i know that the details for Time and Destination are recorded. But once i get the images on the lappie, where do i fond them. Its not in the name of the pics, the name of the folder, the advanced properties of the pic file or the EXIF data. Any other place I can look for this? I can upload an image some place if you need to have a look yourself (let me know where you'd like me to upload)

Thanks your help.

my canon cam supports some browser (zoombrowser or something..) to open the images. in that i can see the details/tags.
I do see basic details in picasa too. maybe u need to right click on images then properties for details.

@Chetans: I tried all properties I can find for a image but I'm not finding any details.

I will try zoombrowser now and see if it helps.

In the meantime, if you or anyone would like to have a look at the non-edited image (straight out of the camera), then please hit the link below. I have uploaded one such image that definitely shows Travel details in the camera playback.

P1050686.JPG

FYI, the above link is for just one image and it has no malware and nothing obscene. Please feel free to download the image for a review. The reason for not uploading here is because the file exceeds the image size for this forum.

Thanks for your help.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

good news and bad news.

good news, data is there.

bad news, you need to open each file in hex viewer to see the info.

either
1. open the jpg in a text editor like textpad
2. open jpg in irfanview and click hex viewer from view (or press F3).

Thanks Vivek. Found the data in Hex Editor.

Also had a Chat session with Panny Support and found the solution. After the data is recorded, I need to add that data as a text-stamp to the images. This process of adding text-stamps creates a duplicate image (and doesn't harm the original ones) with all the Data on the image.

Thanks again for your help.

Hope this helps any other Panny users.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a digital slr camera and my budget is around 40k. Need inputs on what will be the best bet. Mind you, I am a beginner and have absolutely no clue on photography. All that I am familiar with are these sony point and shoot cameras.

Must say, I liked the looks of the Nikon D5100 , is that a good camera?

Me too not a professional but please check Canon 550D or Nikon D3100 which are well within your budgets.

I have a copy of "better photography" jan 2012 edition where they have listed the top 30 cameras based on each and every budget starting from Rs. 5,000 all the way up to 5.25 lakhs. and this is what the mag says about the following models you are considering:

Canon EOS 550D released Feb 2010

"Who should buy it? A canon D7 user who wants a backup body.

Why: While the image quality is not the best in its class it can be a true performer when paired with good quality lenses."

Nikon D5100 released April 2011

"Who should buy it: Hoddyists who demand good quality image quality at ISO 6400 (this basically means good performance in low light).

why: its image quality is as good as the much more expenisve Nikon D7000. Drawback listed was that it is not compatable with non-AF-S lenses. It is the best DSLR under Rs. 50,000."

After reading the above, and also considering the Nikon D5100 is the newer of the two, i would pick the nikon.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Guys need help, I am in the market for a new camera. It's for my cousin. He has no experience with cameras and you can say his photography knowledge is nil.Need a camera which does a good job on auto mode. Keeping these in mind, suggest a camera.

Considering the super zoom/bridge category only.

Budget- 13k preferably. Max 15k.

Brands- No preference per se. Open to any brand.

Shooting- Normal, day to day. No specific requirements as such. Want something which can perform good in low light. Good if HD video recording is available. Not a deal breaker though.

Manual control a must. If he gets interested someday, he can always go manual/semi manual.

Honestly, I never expected picking a PnS would be so much difficult. So many choices and too many options to consider that you get lost. I spent less time zeroing on my DSLR than this

Contradictory requirements.
He needs to ask himself some more questions.

As for now I will say, FZ35.

Well, at this moment, he doesn't know anything. As he gets accustomed, he will understand 'how' and 'what' of it. So manual might come in handy. I am not looking at DSLR like controls. Basic stuff like aperture/shutter/WB/EV control should do.
