Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

I am a big Canon fan. In this price/size point I'd have got the SX260.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Me too a Canon fan especially for P&S. I bought a P&S for 10K which has a 16X optical zoom around Diwali last year.

It works great and gives out decent pictures and has too many settings for the person who likes to play around the features to get the best picture out.

I can share the model no later on as i cannot recall now. I checked out the same model when I visited US in April and guess what it was priced exactly same as in India. It was available for USD 199

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

The Canon A4000 IS is another nice camera in the same range. I found a like to like comparo that puts them neck and neck. The Oly takes pics in 3D and offers stitch panorama, plus you can do audio tags on them which is awesome. On the other hand the Canon has better image stabilisation and a micro mode. On flipkart the Oly is 9K and the Canon 10K. I think I am leaning towards the Olympus VR-350.

@noopster: Here is a good deal.
http://www.ebay.in/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....ht_6023wt_1139

You may be able to find some ebay discount coupons and pay even lesser (say 5-7% discount).

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

I bought a Nikon L26 online this week. Took only 2 snaps and the lens is jammed. Screen gives 'Lens Error'

The only service center in Mumbai is at Marol Naka and they were very un-cooperative.
I have lost faith in Nikon after this. I am not interested in repairing but need a replacement. How do I go about this?

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Thanks S.U.N- though it's a sweet deal, am not looking at the TZ30.

In fact did a feature to feature comparo of TZ25 versus VR-350 (my favourite) and the only things the TZ25 offers for an additional 4K are:
- 16X vs 10X zoom (I don't need this)
- 1080p vs 720p movies (for homevideo shoots, latter is sufficient; also I have a camcorder)
- In-camera HDR (don't know what to do with this )
- CMOS sensor vs CCD (this is apparently a big deal. Again no idea)
- Better image stabilisation (I don't usually shoot moving objects)
- 1 f-stop better light sensitivity
- Faster shutter speed
- Longer exposure time (doubt I can exploit these features to my advantage!)

Looking like the Oly it is!

VR-350 is an older model. Try any of these:

You probably are smitten by the 3D feature of Olympus, I guess.
Please go through the reviews of that model in terms of actual image quality and battery performance. Some models of Olympus had battery issues in the past.

Also have a look at this: http://snapsort.com/cameras/Olympus-VR-350-score

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

I have been long researching for buying a good Bridge camera. Have decided upon Fuji HS 25 EXR.

Reason :
  1. CMOS based Sensor
  2. Manual Zoom ring [ Aids saving power too ]
  3. Sturdy construction apart from on off button
  4. DSLR feel [ Hard textured plastic ] while holding
  5. 30X Optical Zoom
  6. 3" Screen [ Adjustable view angle ]
  7. Option for connecting external flash.
Contenders were :
  • Canon SX40
  • Nikon P 510
  • Olympus 720UZ
  • Fuji SL 300
I want some experts to suggest whether I have made the right choice.

Maxbhp,

You should probably consider the Panasonic FZ200 too - http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/compact-di...view-50009168/

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Hello folks,
I am taking baby steps in the world of photography and currently own a canon powershot A580. Now, am planning to upgrade to a used slr.A colleague of mine is willing to sell his canon rebel xt(d350) with tamron 18-200 lens. Camera is 5 years old but in a good condition. Could you suggest a good price to buy the camera. Thanks in advance.

I Bought Sony HX10V from Croma Navi Mumbai yesterday for 16,600/- used SBI card for 5% cash back offer so it costed me around Rs 15770/-

I had intended no to spent more than 10-12k for camera , but was ultimately sold for it.

I am loving it so much that i have clicked more than 100 shots in a day and will continue to do so.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Any suggestions for a camera that can capture colors.

My wife wants to buy a camera that will take pictures of clothes and jewels(stones) in a non-studio setting. So lighting may not be the most optimal.

Budget is approximately 10k. Can go to a maximum of 14.

For a 10K budget, the best camera that comes to my mind is this one:

For full technical review:
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Pa.../verdict.shtml

I have an older version of this series, and it produces good photos.

This camera is high on features and performance.

However, I am not sure what else is required in a camera for your requirement (better low light performance? macro mode? or something else?)

Just this.

The ability to capture colors and detail on clothing and jewellery.
No need of macro mode.

Ability to shoot in low light conditions would be a plus. As that would allow the photos to be shot using ordinary room lighting.
