This is way too fast for a mobile device. Even Android 2.2's browser finished the test in around 5,765 milliseconds, which before Meego, was the fastest performance on a mobile.

Missing some context there, are we?

First up, android runs on ARM, which is low power and low performance as compared to x86(moorestown).

If that's not sufficient, the froyo android would have been running on 1Ghz processor at best, while the moorestown was clocked at 1.5Ghz.

Inspite of that, if it was only that much faster, then god help nokia, especially when faster ARM cores start shipping out.

One reason is hardware. Most Nokia touch screens are "Resistive". These are cheaper but don't support multiple touch, so pinch and zoom type of action is not possible.

This phone has a capacitive screen, so I expect it to be better.

On software front, it hopeless though. Most existing Symbian apps wont work on it, and not too many developers are writing for this particular OS.

Now she too has moved on from iPhone 3GS to Nokia 3710 fold, her first flip phone. This phone is really cute.
You are most welcome. The Nokia store on Church Street is one of the biggest in the city, I just guessed that they would have stock of all the models.

Your wife likes Nokia 3710 more than the iphone !

Nokia N8 survives a near-10-foot drop to concrete floor from 1st floor balcony

For several years now, you can drop a Nokia to a concrete floor and pick it up unscathed in most cases.
A Nokia N8 got accidentally dropped 3 metres (9 feet 10 inches) from a first floor balcony to a hard concrete floor. The only damage sustained were two surface scratches !!! The Gorilla Glass screen was undamaged and the phone worked fine!

By way of comparison, an iPhone 4 cracked when it fell to the ground from knee height.

What more need be said of Nokia's rugged reliability?

Ram; luck! pure luck.

I used to give all a demo of how good P910 was when it was launched. I used to drop it without even giving it a thought from 1-2meter height. Many team-bhpians have seen this circus and have held their mouth open.

UKR; Wave is a much better phone than X6. X6 as you said is just old wine in new bottle. Imagine X6 going kaput and you have sensitive data in its memory?

And voice guidance is free on Nokia.

The Nokia N8 is made from a single block of aluminum alloy. In that it is unlike most other phones, wouldn't you agree ?

It takes nearly 18 months to develop a Nokia phone. Their models are tested for water exposure, bent by robots, and shaken around in boxes full of sharp objects.

Gorilla Glass
You have to understand what Gorilla Glass is -- the glass on the screen of a Nokia N8.

Gorilla Glass is made by Corning.

It is an environmentally friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass designed specifically to function as a protective window for a variety of display devices.

An ion-exchanged process creates a compression layer on the surface of the glass substrate. This achieves chemical strengthening of the glass.

This compressive layer provides an armor which reduces the propagation of flaws – created both in production processes and by end users.

Nokia is one of those companies that nobody pays attention to when it does well. It’s like when Roger Federer wins at Wimbledon, nobody talks about it. But lose once...
and people come screaming Android, iPhone, Samsung, Sony-Ericsson, and what have you?

I am a huge Nokia hardware fan and in the past software too and no matter what anyone says Nokia hardware in terms of reliability is the best. Waiting for the first Meego device with cutting edge hardware which would be the only device which can replace my current iPhone 3GS.

No Doubts what so ever about Nokia Reliability !
I have dropped my N82 numerous times (even fell out of pocket @80kmph while driving a bike)
But its the Boring interface and the pathetic service that makes nokia shoddy in India

Am out looking for a new phone to replace my humble E71. Eyeing the androids this time. Am thinking either iPhone 4, HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S. iPhone, ill be getting it from the US and jailbreaking it most probably but somehow am not too keen on it.

Am really confused between the Desire and SGS. Read a lot of reviews too. What do you guys suggest? And what are the street prices like?

Thanks JKdas. But in samsung wave, I believe we have to pay only if we need voice guidance right? We could still use the GPS to chart routes and see our position on it real time?

I could really feel the difference in build quality. X6 feels like it is going to fall apart, atleast the battery cover gives that feeling. Purely my opinion, X6 owners please don't take offence. Was really disappointed with this model, especially after getting used to the build quality of Nokia n91 for over four years now.

Anyway I just now bought the Wave. Thought I would play with it for a few days before putting up my feedback on it.

12 mp is fine but why didn't they make the screen size 4 inch atleast.

Samsung Galaxy series seems better screen size wise.

I wish Nokia would show a little sense in their interface.

What intelligence is there in GPS and Landmarks being found under Tools -->Connectivity?

Why can't I customise the items on the main page? I never want internet search or share online, and seldom want Wifi.

Their PC Suite is a bad joke.

(mine's an N82)
