You might also want to check out Sony Xperia U and Sola. Both are good for low to moderate usage. Xperia U does not have expandable memory and Sola does not have front facing camera. I recenty got the Sola for my father. Do not look at their prices from flipkart. Buy it from a retailer shop...you might get it cheaper.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Dont buy a silly android with <512 MB ROM. Else you will just spend the rest of your days clearing cache, or rooting it and living with instability.

My defy had 2GB ROM and it FLIES.

The chacha has a ludicrous 150mb (90 avail or such) and its always on the damned edge. certainly not what is in order for simple users. why torture urself?

/galaxy ace had that issue, ace+ is good it has 3GB. Samsung smartly learned!
//GPS on HTC/motorola is far too awesome. agreed. sub 1 min lock even on stock phones.

This might be old news but just saw on twitter that Nokia pureview 808 will launch on June 13. Price is not known but somewhere I read it will be priced between 25-30k.

Don't go by the numbers alone. For a normal user, actual performance matters more than the numbers. The performance of Ace plus is not sluggish by any standards.

Sony Neo V provides 300 MB (approx) free memory to the user. This, IMHO, is a serious limitation and totally unacceptable for its price.

This looks more acceptable, but what's with the crappy camera.
When you said back-up phone, I assumed that you needed a cheap phone (mobile phone equivalent of a beater car). Hence the cheap suggestions.

If you like small phone with big screen and good resolution, you already know what the answer is. Like Viddy suggested, check out the Defy Nxt.

That is what I like about the Koreans. They accept their mistakes and correct them promptly.

It's definitely a limitation but its not as bad as you have put it. My Neo V came with 420mb of internal memory (against 320mb mentioned in the specs everywhere on the internet). I don't remember how much was available to user out of the box, but I have about 50 different apps installed right now and there is 110mb memory still available. According to my calculations, there is still enough space for about 20 more apps in there.

Major weakness of Neo V IMHO is the flimsy plastic body and not-so-excellent camera performance (comparing it with my old Samsung Wave - the best 5mp shooter I've come across on a mobile phone).

It all boils down to personal preferences.

Somebody would prefer a crisp display, somebody would prefer more memory.

Moral of the story - a mid range Android phone will always have some compromise. Choose the one which suits your requirement without getting judgmental of others' choice.

Rohan

Nobody is judging anyone's choice. But since this is a thread asking for advice we have to put our personal choice aside.

The samsung galxy ace runs on a generation 1 snapdragon with a adreno 200 chipset and a Hvga screen . googling that will tell you all the phones that run on this configuration and none of them are mid-range.its a low end chipset which has been phased out even in the entry level phones.

And to say that you have to compromise when you're paying that kind of money is bad advice. the windows phones and many of the androids run on pretty decent configurations. you dont have to compromise because there is plenty of stuff to choose from.

There are plenty of phones that are non-vfm not just the galaxy ace. the HTC wildfire/salsa the sony live walkman series and the samsung Y series of phones are horrible overpriced and are only selling because of the brand name.

I had this problem on my Note a few weeks ago but probably not as frequently. Back up your data and do a factory reset.

After the ICS update the phone has been behaving better.

My previous post was not targeted at you. Please don't take it personally, I was just speaking in general. All opinions are welcome on this thread, thats the point of a discussion forum.

The point I was trying to convey is that all mid-range (15k range) Android phones have some limitations. Some will have outdated chipsets, some will have low resolution screens, some will have little internal memory, some will have outdated OS version (with no upgrades planned), some will have no front camera, some will have no external memory support.

Or if the phone come will all the features, it will be from a lesser reputed brand.

Show me one Android phone in 15k range (approx) which has all these features and I will purchase it today itself.

As far as Windows OS is concerned, IMHO the OS itself has too many restrictions. The sales figures speak for themselves.

Hi BHPian I am searching for android with duel sim(GSM+GSM) and two camera option phone within 15k budget.Shortlisted below phones.

1)Samsung Galaxy y duos=9k

No front camera

2)Samsung Galaxy Y Pro dues=10K

Small display due to keypad.

Now Motorola launched two android duel sim phones with IP-67 standard and available in India from June 20th .

1)Motorola Defy Plus=15k

2)Motorola Defy Mini=11k

Please suggest which model should I go,Right now I am using Samsung corby pro and happy with its performance.Never used Motorola till now.

I don't think the Morotola Defy series come with dual SIM option.

It is unlikely that you would find a dual SIM, dual camera Android phone within 15k from a reputed brand.

You could check out Karbonn A9. It meets your requirements.

Or you could wait for Samsung Ace dual GSM SIM, which is about to be launched. It does not have front camera though.

@ balechaparka: Both the new Motorola phones seem interesting. They don't really offer much more except for dual camera and a slightly bigger battery.

I would suggest wait for some reviews to come in before buying.

As an original Defy owner I am disappointed with the newer Defy variants. The improvements are almost superficial. Alright, can we have the tea now.

Any takers for the newly launched HTC Desire C? HTC Desire C - Buy Online in India for Rs.14,299 as on 13th June 2012 - Price, Features, Reviews, Specifications, Photos, Videos | BuyThePrice.com

I have a hunch that the processor spec and battery spec are outdated in the market. No digital compass too. However the plus points could be cheapest ICS, Beats audio and Sense UI 4?
