In this case, I would suggest that you choose entry level AVR + speakers (Total cost under 40k).

Since source is TV, you will get similar sound from entry level and very expensive systems.

For speaker package, you can look at this one form JBL:

India JBL

Cost is 13k.

For AVR, you can look at Denon 1311. Cost is 23k

Its a substitute for 5.1 speakers. Tries to recreate 5.1 surround if someone can not install 6 speakers.

He is correct. Now most manufacturers focus on 5.1/7.1 features in this price range. "core" electrical components like power supply / amplification are now of lower rating.

for example yamaha 665 vs 667. In 665, Yamaha shared power supply for amplification and digital circuits and reduced other core components. After lots of complaints, they brought back 667 that rectifies it.

I am going to connect the Cable directly to the receiver and see how it fares, tonight.
I tried this yesterday and fell back on the original config done by the installer.
Reasons:
1) My hathway cable R/F cannot be connected to the receiver. I dont have a STB, to connect the Digital In.
2) I connected DVD to Receiver via HDMI and connected component out from receiver to the TV. But the TV showed no signal, reading through the manual and adjusting settings realized that I need a RIHD supported TV for this to work.

Somehow convinced my wifey to buy a LCD TV come diwali and so I am gonna retain the existing setup until then. Croma had an offer for Samsung 6 series (C650), with 0% interest EMI and free Tata Sky HD STB.

When and how did you come across to the offer? Is it still available?

I have seen the sound bar from Indiajbl.com -Harman Kardon SB15 and it is priced at Rs.34,990/-. It has a sound bar with a sub woofer. I think with this will get a very rich bass sound??

Still, am looking at various options as I prefer to have a better one (cannot keep buying these kind of products often), eventhough my usage limited for the time being..

This is too costly. One good this is, it has a separate sub-woofer.

Its a good unit to be used with a TV, since source itself does not have 5.1 sound and it has built-in amplifiers.

But with 35k, you can get MUCH better speaker+subwoofer packages.

nairrk, that is far better than any 20K generic system. But, I have not autitioned either. Coming to think of it, I recall a thread by Sam Kapasi, titled something like "Kochi goes hitech" etc. Please search for that thread - if you can come down to Kochi, that shop may have some options.

I recall the shop having couple of HT systems, but at that time, I was not in the market for HT and had not paid much attention.

Re the reply you got from B'lore JBL, I am still not sure how service will be handled.

Yes, Service will be a problem either buy from Bangalore or Kochi, unless these people have some private/local arrangement with some Kannur based electronic shop/dealer!

According to jblindia Bangalore, HK TS 20 is powered with 60RMSx5 + 100Rms per Subwoofer. Also the guy says that HK look much superior to JBL and sounder better.

If I have to go for this kind of set up, no alternative but to buy either from kochi or Bangalore. Keep fingers crossed as far as the service point is concerned?!
Otherwise settle for Samsung HTiB..

the risk is worth, imo. The pain of travelling all the way to bang if you feel like it, Too is worth it. Btw, sam kapasi, a member here, is marketing lead of jbl. Send a pm to him if you have any doubts.

Service is a big issue if any spare part is required. Most companies do not have enough inventory of costly spares and we have to wait for weeks before they get it imported.

As long as JBL commits to provide service in your city, it should be okay. At max 3 - 4 extra days for someone to be available and be sent from nearest metro.

Thanks all your advise/suggestions.
In the meantime, Megatrade, calicut clarifying that (to my question) they are sole distributor of Denon in Kerala and they have spacially trained engineers for HT.And they are not taking installation or delivery charges!! They are ready to give a demo of
HT but need to go to Calicut which in any case near for me considering Bangalore or Kochin (I can go there, see demo and come back on same day!)
Their offer was on Denon 1610 which, according to some other reviews, better than
HK AVR 134 ?
Any suggestion please??

I recently purchased a HT system from PRO FX in Bangalore. I got a Denon 1910 (7.1 ch) receiver and Mission MV Series (5 Speakers + 1 Subwoofer). I am really impressed with the quality of sound. I paid 72k for this package. Pro FX had also given me a quote for the same speakers and Denon 1610 receiver at 60k.

The company, megatrade calicut is the denon dealer (seen from denon website) who quoted me another offer yesterday which is as under:

AVR 1610 - Rs.29,900
Polk audio -TSi300 - Rs.21,000 per pair
Polk Audio -TSi100 - Rs.11,000 per pair
'' '' CS 10 - Rs.9500/-
'' '' Psw110- Rs.13000/-

Total Package price Rs. 84,400/-
Special price (for me) Rs. 82,700 (Rs.1700/- discount )
+
meantime, I have also sent an email to Profx bangalore to see what best package they can offer.

In addition, I have seen Pioneer VSX-519V-K and it is priced at Rs.16,999/- in ebay.
(I think normal shop price is something around Rs.25000?)

Thanks.
PRO FX Bangalore offered me the above speaker package but with a Denon 1910 instead of Denon 1610 for a price of Rs. 84,575/- (after discount). But this was more than 3 months back
