Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

For all considering HTC One X, many issues have been reported including screen banding, flicker etc. I am not sure if these have been fixed by the OTA updates, but at least the latest update 1.29 has not been released for India so far. All prospective buyers may refer to the following and also get feedback from existing owners on T-BHP forum.

India was supposed to get the 1.28 update which was going to fix those issues. As i dont own one i cant say wheteher it has rolled out or not. But its all a firmware issue and the phone itself is great. This should not be a detterent for buying it.

Just wipe cache, dalvik cache and reboot the phone, then you are good as new.

BTW, why use similar apps for the same job concurrently?

Being an X-Samsung Swype user, I prefer touchpal for the following reasons.

1) It provides every feature of the Samsung Swipe
2) It's faster and more responsive than Samsung Swipe
3) the swipe gestures - left ( to delete a word ), up ( for numbers ), down ( for symbols )
4) The easy smiley shortcuts

Is there any reason why you prefer Samsung Swipe over touchpal ?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello friends

Am a newbie to the andriod world.
Just got myself a Note.

Need advice from gurus here:

1. Which software to sync my offical MS Outlook calendar with the phone's calendar? (local sync only, PC-Phone. I dont want to go via gmail)

2. Is Keis any good ? Tried installing it on Windows 7, gave too many error messages. Seems like a half baked software. Very very bad.

3. Googled a bit, there's an app called myphoneexplorer. But that requires Samsung USB drivers. Is there a way to get these drivers without going through Keis route? I cant find downloads on Samsung website only for drivers.

4. Is there a way to transfer my old sms'es from my Nokia E71 to the Note easily?

Thank you.

Thank you, have been using swype for over a year now.Lemme try this keyboard and get back with my feedback.

Team,

For all those users with softkeys not working, android phone is pretty much useless without the back button and the context menu button.

Try softkeys app from the market. It needs root access. All the problems have been resolved

New screen for my i9003 would have costed me 6K,but now i have this app.

Saved me 6K and new phone purchase plans have been shelved.

Kudos to the developer.

Thats good to know. But where do you get it at 15K? I see everywhere at about 17K.

I said around. If you go to shops directly on hand you can easily get it for 16k or even 15.5k. Not online.

Some sites do not work well with one browser and work well with another. Sadly, we are still not 'there' yet.

Edit: I was planning to install another ROM for Defy. Which one is the 'best'/ most stable at the moment?

I'm currently on CM7.2 20120424-unofficial-JORDAN build date Tue Apr 24 22:26:46 JST 2012, build number GWK74 Gigglebread, Gives me great Battery life and is Fast, ofcourse I have used the V6 supercharger script.

Other than this I found WIUI ROMS pretty good, but my phone battery temp hovers around 40 deg C in WIUI and hence I'm on CM7

Here is a benchmark test of S3 v/s One X.
Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator - GSMArena.com

S3 is the winner there. Lets see how Samsung prices its crown.

I came across a newer version here:
euroskank cm7 kangs

Somehow I am not able to find much information on the performance and battery life of this ROM.

Samsung galaxy S3 looks cheap and is made of plastic. Whereas HTC ONE X looks premium with great build quality! I would not want to pay 35k for S3 really!

Galaxy Note or Galaxy Nexus

Friends;

I am in market for a smartphone now. Android only.

Super confused between Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note.

Any recommendations would be helpful.

Currently I own a Nexus S as a personal mobile which I will pass on to my Dad and have the new one for me. The other mobile which I use for official connection is Xperia Neo V whose excellent battery helps me in remaining connected. I dont want anything above Note (price wise). Galaxy Note getting for 32500 and Galaxy Nexus for 25000. Help

Hold off your purchase for 2 to 3 weeks. Galaxy SIII would be launched and you will see a price reduction of both the note and SII.
