2. Is Optical Trackpad better than Trackball?
I have been doing some research on BB and as per my budget, only these 2 phones fit the bill. (planning to buy in coming months)

8520 = 12k approx
8900 = 17k approx + 8gb card + a bluetooth (at ezone blr)

My requirements are 3g, GPS, Wifi so the only one that fits this criteria is bold which is beyond my budget. Nokia E71 / 72 are OK but blackberry is a choice straight from the heart.

So i narrowed down to the following imp features:
8900 = 2g + 3mp cam + gps + wifi + 480 x 360 pixels, 2.4 inches
8520 = 3g + 2mp cam + WiFi + 320 x 240 pixels, 2.46 inches

For me 8900 is a better deal as it has more features and a bigger screen + gps + Wifi + decent audio (planning to get RAZER earphones)

Hope this helps

Rumours are that 8520 is sold out in most metros and are now being sold at as high as 15k in smaller cities.

The addition of White & Violet is creating buzzes amongst the females

I have now had my 8520 for 2 months and I must say IT ROCKS !!!

So if someone is planning to get a 8520 - get it now, Prices are not going down and might even go up a bit. First time I am seeing a mobile which actually came down and is going up now !
Any clue on the latest price? Ebay lists it at Rs 13.5 odd.

Did your friend know anyone at Redington?

Yep he knew the territory manager there

It still has a going price of 13k or so as far as I know.

The phone is a really good one. Have had it for 5 months now and I am loving it. Never felt the need for a 9700. ALthough the camera is just about average. Everything else about the 8520 rocks !

Update : My BBBold (9000) is back in tip-top condition and come to think of it, i was thinking of buying a new phone and had nightmares of spending 20K et.all

It costed me a total of Rs.700 ( 250 for chemical wash, 450 for replacement of something that went short and with water seeping in it had almost melted away, not the IC keypad which he mentioned was good)

I highly recommend this service center in Hyderabad as he was prompt in service and professional too ( issuance of job card, calling me twice to inform the problem and pick-up call)

I am happy to get my beauty back in its original condition

@Nandish, IMO, BB9000 is way to good looking than the latest version.

I dont have the falling in liquid problem, but the trackball of my BB has gone bust.
Can you pass the contacts of the repairing centre for me to go to a reliable person.

Guys i need a little help here. I have a Bold 9000 running on OS 4.6.0.247 release. I downloaded 5.0.0.1004 Airtel version from Blackberry website. I deleted vendor.xml and i tried to update my device software using Loader.exe found in the same directory as vendor.xml. But when i run Loader.exe all i get is a screen which lists already installed programs in the Berry and i see no option to update the software to 5.0.

I tried updating with BB Desktop Manager, i have the latest DM installed in my laptop. When i connect my BB to the laptop and start Desktop Manager it says there is a newer device software available for my Bold and asks if i would like to update it. I choose yes and it goes to application loader screen. But then it says the device software is already the latest version and no need to update.

Does it matter that i don't have BIS enabled yet?

Please ask if you need more details. I'd really appreciate if BB gurus can guide me on this.

Yes, it do matter. I had a hard time updating my 8900 to 5.0 too.

It's tricky. Switch off your bb, remove battery from bb, make sure vendor.xml is deleted.

Now you have to be really fast, attach usb wire with BB, add battery to mobile, quickly start Loader.exe, it will show "unknown" port (Most important step to watch out), click next-next-next, now you can update it.

Note: Be Fast

Ashish, thanks for the tip! Did that and loader worked and it it said update succesful.
But during the restart the Blackberry progress bar stops at around 3/4th mark and nothing happens for couple of minutes. Is this normal behaviour? Should i reflash?

Yes, I agree. 8520 is most recommended these days. Esp more so for a newbie to the BB world.

Can someone confirm if Vodafone Mobile Connect (i.e. Advanced GPRS) can be activated on top of BB Lite 299 plan (in Mumbai)?

Not sure, logically it should not. Else they'll start loosing their "899 plan" customers
