Penta I know does not give more than 2 hours, If somebody who is using the Micromax infinity can confirm the battery which the manufacturers claim to be a 4000Mah and last 5 to 6 hours, then I think you can go in for the Infinity

my requirements are quite similar to yours.
i might be getting the infinity mostly.
karbonn st3 blade is a good tab too but not sure of its reliability.

couldn't find any other decent tab. saw some Chinese tabs for 2-3k.

BTW i don't think HCL tabs support Google play store. i read that somewhere.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Guys -
I am currently stuck between these three Tabs (Only Samsung GT-P3100 GT-P5100 GT-N8000) and though price is not a motivating factor here, really need to understand what I am really getting more for the higher purchase price.
This difference is especially relevant between Tab2 5100 and Note 800. Can some please help me make a decision here?

Ordered MICROMAX Infinity from The Mobile store today - The best offer I could find was from them (4499 INR + 8GB memory card free. No shipping charges. Payment method - COD).
I also considered the Karbonn blade and iBerry auxus-ax01 but at the end, the support for MICROMAX Funbook infinity from XDA developers tilted the favor towards Funbook infinity.
Now I plan to order a screen guard and a carry case with a built in keyboard. I will check the B&M stores before I order them from e-bay.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I have got my Nexus 7 32gb version from US yesterday. My cousine was coming from there so it was easy way to bring it here.
Works like a charm, screen is amazing and very fast device.
But the problem I am facing is, it can not be detected as ADB device in Wugnext toolkit for Unlock and Rooting. So gurus here pls let me have some easy way to solve this problem.
I have done all the options as Developer options is on , USB debugging is selected.

@Theexperthand
Good decision and a good deal ( the 8GB card along with the tab), do post your experiences with it for the benefit of all, try local accessories shops for buying the accessories like screen guard and cover etc etc

cheapest option (and a good one as well) would be the recently launched Acer Iconia B1. Costs 8K
dual core processor
1024x600 7" screen

How about Nabi? http://www.nabitablet.com/

I briefly checked it during the holiday season and was quite impressed with the features and pre-loaded apps.

I'm not sure of its availability in India, but it does looks todd-ture-friendly

I have solved the above problem by downloading the Pdanet USB drivers.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I received my Funbook Infinity on Thursday evening - commendable service by The Mobile Store. Let me try to give a short review about it.

The deal: I brought this from the Mobile store for 4,499 INR. I got a 8 GB memory card free as a part of online deal. The mode of payment was COD. The package was shipped through Bluedart and it was nicely packed.

The first impressions:

+ves:
  • Well built, and nice to hold - thanks to the counters at both edge
  • Decent sound and screen - much better than I expected at this price point
  • Pretty much the standard Andriod UI - the touch do not lags.
  • Video quality is reasonably good - again, much better than what i expected at this price point
  • Temple run, Subway surfer etc plays without any lag.
  • Battery life is decent – lasts easily for more than 6 hours of usage.
  • USB OTG cable comes bundled in the box. Detects my 500 GB Buffalo HDD easily and plays movies from it directly without any lag.

-Ves:
  • Absolutely no charge in the battery – you need to plug in the charger and charge the phone before you can switch it on for the first use.
  • Because of the countered shell, generic 7 inch tab covers would not fit.
  • Not much good at multi-tasking. Open couple of apps and try switching between them – you can feel the lag.
  • Could not find a task manager bundled with the tab - would have been nice to have a task manager.
  • (I am using quick reboot and it works neatly - one touch and it speeds up the tab considerably)
  • Extra charger - not sure why Micromax have to give a extra charger with a old nokia type round pin when the tab supports USB charging. A charger which can use the USB cable to charge would have been much better.
  • Now the major grouse for me - the tab detects and connects to my wifi but not able to connect to internet 9 out of 10 times. The tab works flawlessly when I tried connecting with another modem (at friends’ place). So, this can be a problem with either my modem or net speed (My FUP limit was crossed so the connection is really slow). – my sisters Samsung Tab 2 works with my modem though. I will update this point after my connection is back to normal speed, in the next billing cycle.

Some extra points:
  • There was a 4 GB card in the tab, pre-loaded with two movies (Rowdy Rathore and Thees Mar Khan).
  • The tab comes preloaded with NFS the run, a HD video player and some micromax apps.
  • I brought a screen guard and a sleeve from a local brick and mortar shop - total damage was 380 INR. I opted for a medium quality screen guard.
  • Brought a charger (80 INR, Novel brand) with can take the USB cable to charge the tab - no more carrying extra charger with the tab.
  • The bundled 4GB card is a generic Chinese make - brought a micro sd to usb adapter (35 INR) and now I have got an additional 4 GB thumb drive.
  • Rooted the tab, installed whatsapp. Tried installing CWM recovery using Novotools, but it did not work – need to spend some more time to find out where it is failing. Once the CWM recovery is in place, I will try to upgrade it to Jelly Bean.
Final Impression: A recommended buy at this price point. The tab delivers much more than what you can normally expect at a price point of 4.5 K INR. What I would have loved more is to get 1 GB ram instead of 512 MB, by paying 500 INR etc.
