Yes that's how it is. Like I said, my MTNL Jadoo 3G is a data-only SIM purchased specifically for the dongle.

I consider my Motorola Defy (5 MP) is below average in camera performance. Will iPad with 5 MP be better? I think Nexus 7 does not have a camera - so I have to drop that one.
Is camera ALSO a priority for your tablet purchase? I have not heard of any tab other than iPad with a 'decent' camera. But trust me, do not make that a deal breaker. You'll hardly ever use your tab for clicking pics.

Now even Airtel has such a plan. But I believe their 3G service is under some court restriction especially in circles where they don't have license. So choose wisely.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I would agree with Rohan on the MiFi Part.

If you already have a dongle, go in for a Hame Mifi, Costs around Rs. 1400
http://www.ebay.in/itm/New-Hame-5-1-...-/110985631002

If you dont have a dongle buy the Micromax MMR 400 R or the BEETEL mifi, where you can directly insert the sim- costs around 2000 to 2200.

I dont understand the need for a Postpaid data sim, why dont you go for a prepaid sim, where you have the flexiblity of opting for any pack from Rs. 20 onwards, as per your need.

Iam from Pune and using the Hame Mifi stick with a unlocked dongle having a Idea Prepaid sim, I recharge it with a Rs. 103 3g Pack, thats 300MB for 30 days, whuich is sufficient for my home use, as I have a BSNL connection in office.

Actually yes. This is for my wife and she does not have a camera phone. She needs to click snaps of interesting things when she is outside.

I have only one choice - Idea. No other network in my place.

Very nice product. I should buy this, but I do not have a dongle. Should I buy this with Idea Netsetter?

How do I track the usage (GB) using these products?
With Android mobile, in Jelly Bean, I have inbuilt meter to track 3G data usage. I can even set warning and auto cutoff.

Need bill for monthly tax claims.

What are options for full HD (1920x1080) tablet, other than iPad? There are few like Asus or Dell but they seem way to expensive than iPad.

Not much in India. Abroad you have Android based Nexus10 , Asus, Acer etc. Nexus is 2560x1600 while others are 1900x1200.
No availability in India for Now.

Can you point me to some comprehensive reviews for this tablet?

I am reading reports that there are no accessories available anywhere for this tablet.

Edit: A very detailed review here: http://compareindia.in.com/specifica...rex4-3g/302922

Sorry, but I am skipping this one as I need a good build quality hardware.

Why only Full HD 1920X1080?
You can have 2048X1536 pixel IPS display (Exactly the same as that on iPad 4)
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 1.6 Ghz Quad Core CPU, 2GB RAM, PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU, 5MP Back & 2MP Front HD Camera, 10000mAh Battery, HDMI, 16GB Built in Storage with support for MicroSD Card.

That is Ainol Novo 9 Spark >> http://www.ainolindia.com/ainol-spar...-quadcore.html

Wow! At 18K, this looks like absolutely steal. How come I never heard about this one earlier? Does anyone know about quality/performance of this? I was expecting Micromax to come up with something like this, but on Tablet front, they are still behind.

Thanks, Rajan.

Ainol is the other best bet. My only issue is that Ainol has not internal 3G support and hence I would need to use a usb dongle.

And Ainol looks wow too!

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Slight digression here: Once you are used to high resolution displays, it's very hard to go back to lower resolution ones.

Even after 10 years, I am yet to come to terms with resolutions offered by laptop compared desktop or LCD monitors. I miss the generous real estate available on screen. (I recall using 1900x1600, or higher, displays 12-15 years back then, while most laptops even today are stuck with 13xx x 7xx displays).

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

There is some discussion on various sites about the new chipset: Rockchip RK3188.

This is a tablet (probably first one) based on that chipset.
http://www.pandawill.com/pipo-m9-qua...ra-p71814.html

Shipping to India will cost between Rs. 450 to Rs. 2000 depending on the courier and the speed.

I think it is a good price for a 10 inch tab with quad core, 1280 x 800px, 2GB RAM, 3G dongle support and 7800 mAh battery.

You said it. I still haven't come to terms with what is displayed on my lappies compared to my CRT desktop monitor that died recently. Streaming vid esp. looks so terrible on lappies. Colour reproduction is also really bad. I am so irked, that I feel like buying another CRT monitor soon... even if its 2nd hand.

1366 x 768 on a 15.6" screen is really bad. And for whatever reason, most lappies... even most higher end ones, are stuck with this resolution.

I even took some opinions, and funniest thing is most people haven't even taken note of how bad things are. In fact they thought about it only after I explained...!

Good to hear, just saw this news. But the play.google says its only 4.1 jelly bean. Why not 4.2?

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/t...w/19204416.cms

I am sure the iPad mini is going to be re-priced
