Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Again 5-6 L price seems to be high compared to the size of the car.

Let us wait and watch

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

If the Brio fails to offer space or equipment, (I've stopped expecting VFM from Honda! ) Then Honda should start packing its bags to leave. I don't think Honda will price this car with a premium as they are really facing terrible heat in all the segments that they operate in. They would've realised by now, that their brand alone is not selling any more with competition so fierce.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

The April figures indicates trouble for City, which is getting swept by the Vento tsunami. Looks like people paying for Honda badge is a thing of the past. Now it is VW. Too many of City on road is too boring any way. As far as Fiat is concerned, it is holding on to its little fan club followers, without doing anything to entice more people to expand the same.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Fiat, for sure has it's own loyal fans sticking to it.

When the City is getting hit, I do not see major decline in the sales of Linea, though it is a small pie in overall sedan sales.

Again, Tsunami effect or not, we can only wait to see.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Its amazing how swift continues to clock the numbers. I mean there have been no serous upgrades to the range for a while now. Hats off to them.
Figo also maintaining the numbers for almost full year now. Thats a good thing.

What I dont understand however is that how does Fabia sell more than Punto? No offence to fabia owners, but this one stumps me everytime.

Regards,
Sukesh.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Maruti's numbers have come down a lot, from the past few month's high. A-Star is down, Alto close to its pre-K10 numbers, SX-4 clearly no where close to previos month sales. Of course there is no stopping the Swift and its booted avatar though. The SX-4 segmment is the one to watch now, with the promising launches coming very soon.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I don’t think the market would spit out Honda in a month. The brand got built over a period of over a decade and there would be various reasons for the poor numbers of the city. Vento has definitely eaten into Hondas pie, but not as much as we are making it out to be. Honda must be sourcing parts from Japan for sure, and that would well be an important reason why the sales are down. They concentrating on the launch of their new small car is also not true for the city not selling well as the company has the resources to handle the existing production and plan for new models separately.
Even the production at Ford USA, has taken a hit due to the things which happened in Japan, so it’s only natural to assume that the Japanese manufacturers will be affected by it. Toyota has been doing well, but I heard that the dealers are now asking the people who have booked the Fortuner that the delivery of their cam may be delayed due to the Japanese Effect. Even Suzuki numbers are down.
On the whole I think we are singling out Honda where as other Japanese manufacturers are not doing too well too.
Lets not count Honda out just yet.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

• I wonder how the TATA Ace matches up against the M&M 3 wheelers and LCV’s?

• Here are a few ‘eye brow raisers’ for me:
o People still purchasing age old ( vintage??) models like M800, Amby;
o The fact that 132 people actually purchased a yeti! Wonder what value proposition that vehicle has to offer;
o Swift Dzire still continues to beat me…
o Nano – heard rumors about the TATA’s pushing Nanos onto their vendors, dealers, even employees! No wonder the charts are on fire!
o I salute the Bolero!

• Things that I anticipate:
o New Verna to start leading the C segment in 4 months!
o Dzire, Bolero, Santro to keep beating my logic (which is proving to be ill founded time and again on these models).

Maybe you are right. The other day I saw a new Nano parked in the showspace of a TATA commercial vehicle showroom. Don't know whether Nano is being promoted through these places, or the dealer was trying to sell off the Nano he had to buy.

What's so surprising bout the Dzire doing killer numbers?? Indians love the boot!! Bolero's an awesome VFM product for those who can't afford the Scorpio/Innova, read rural India. Santro's still got the charm i guess! I'm a Santro owner n' still love her behaviour as a city car.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Honda , Nissan low and also read that Toyota will be doing production cut this month clearly means quake effect.
Serious challenge for TATA, though they now possess all the capabilities of a global manufacturer.Fail to understand about TATA below points
1. What stops them coming up a Bolero beater ?
2. Why the JLR technology still not making any visible impact on their India cars ?
3. If KPIT can make a Rs60,000 Revolo hybrid , why cant TATA make even cheaper hybrid systems for nano and Indica ?
4. What happened to so many vehicles they showed in Auto expo? , Iris , a smaller Ace?
5. If diesel subsidy is withdrawn on cars , where will TATA go?
