In fact a certain manufacturer has already addressed your plea; Ford.

Check out the Figo top variant it is absolutely fantastic. It is more spacious, More Involving to drive and is VFM.

You do lose out on the DDis but the Tdci has much better low end torque and drive-ability.

Yes bro, FORD indeed has a great VFM product which is really a great product, TDCi has very good driveability too. But my wish is to see ABS being offered as an option (if not standard) on all the variants. Waiting for such a day! The Govt wont be enforcing the standard ABS rule any time soon, as we can see, they are quite busy counting numbers with fuel prices

I doubt that mate. i see a lot of people who had booked vdi thinking abs will be incorporated have either upgraded to zdi or cancelled.

I was told by the SA in chennai today when i went to ABT maruti looking for alternative place for test drive that most bookings are for the zdi and was told vdi delivery will take only 6-7 months where as zdi will take 8-9 months owing to demand

Re: MSIL discontinues old swift. EDIT : New Swift LAUNCHED!

I had booked the new Swift (Zdi) in July with Kapico Maruti and I'm cancelling my booking. This has nothing to do with the strike and the waiting period - I find the rear space to be very small and more importantly ingress/outgress is a real pain. My mom had to really struggle to get in and get out. (I'm actually surprised that this has not been made out as a negative yet by any reviews). Even I found getting in/out a little difficult - I was constantly banging my head with the door roof while getting out.

And not to mention the boot space (or the lack of it). The car was an absolute delight to drive and the ICE was EXCELLENT, though. Too bad, the car that I waited for almost a year had to disappoint me so much

I have already booked the i20 CRDi Asta and the car should arrive by next Sunday.

Why are we not getting the New Swift review. Now cars are even even available at the dealers.

Your kind attention is invited to the following VERY VALUABLE link where we have discussed in detail the interior space.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...-25-lakhs.html

If rear leg room is your concern, I fear I20 may not the right choice, though boot space is on the higher side.
As you have rightly pointed out, ingress-egress in the rear seat is a problem with the new Swift. Body parts hit at several places while trying to come out.

i20 has lesser leg room compared to i10, Alto even Swift

Figures seems wrong. I have been in all the above cars and can say i20 definitely has more leg room than any of those.

Couldn't agree more. Even if the stats were to be true, the i20 definitely does not give out that any perception of lack of leg room.

The primary reason for rejecting the New Swift is not rear leg room, rather, it's the lack of boot space and more importantly, the in/out of the back seat. The New Swift is an awesome car - there is no doubting that fact. It just doesn't tick all boxes when it comes to being a "family car" like the i20 or the Jazz.

I too can't figure out and now have stopped bothering about it. However, you have other owner reviews aka bumblebee in the test drives section. Moreover, several people have test driven and posted their views as well which will give you a good picture of the new swift.

Yes the figures seem to be strange. i20 is a spacious car but the leg room is not all that great though.

I agree about the head room. When I sat in the back seat, I found the leg room definitely better than before, but head room was limited. However, I never faced a difficulty in ingress and egress though.

Fully agree with those printed in bold above. I have also mentioned this before. It is more convenient to come out of the rear bench of my alto than my swift. Shoes hits sill, door pads and the B pillar.

It is strange but true. Just take a tape and measure the maximum and minimum legrooms. Also check the seat length and width. Nano is much better than i20 in legroom and head room department! This is the reason why I say again and again, these cars are not designed for the indians, but for some other geographical location and then dumped on to us. At least etios values our quest for rear roominess, while defaulting on several other parameters (plastics/ beading for example).

Re: MSIL discontinues old swift. EDIT : New Swift LAUNCHED!

Yup the boot in the new Swift is real cramped. Basically as good as no boot.

Went to a dealership today and talked to the manager there. From his dealership itself he had a 1000 bookings for the Swift. But now he's starting to get a lot of cancellations for the Swift. The long waiting period is getting to the nerves of people.

I guess once the curiosity and me first factor of the Swift dies down, it may not do well as good as the old Swift as it doesn't seem as practical as the old one.

Cheers

Hey Buddy not I'm not trying to spoil the fun or anything, But if I were you then I would wait for the 2012 i20. After all we keep the car for at least 3-5 years. And since 2008 the i20 looks damn old now.

If not swift then check out the figo or vista for space and VFM. Both are relatively refreshed in our market. I know both feel dated still.

IMO wait for the new i20.

@All: sorry if you feel that this is OT, But we are discussion competitors/ Good / Bad sides of the swift.

Something is cooking right in the pressure cooker.

White is simply beautiful. I feel that one should wait for the white shade. It may not take much time. Infact, the allotment process is not transparent at all. Yesterday, one guy told me that he exchanged his car with the dealership for 40k less than what the open market offered him, since he was promised a faster delivery of the swift. Patience pays yaar.
