re: Hyundai EON Now Launched! Prices between 2.7L - 3.71L Ex-Delhi!

The Eon is expected to be launched barely a day from now. The interest that Hyundai has generated for the Eon is quite fascinating and I, for one, am eagerly awaiting a full blown road test by team-bhp gurus ASAP. I only hope it does not get delayed like the Swift road test.

My key interest in the Eon is...

* The quality of the 800 cc engine.
* The quality of the gear box.
* The cabin space and legroom.
* The type of usable boot space.
* The sitting position of the driver.
* Driver's view of the road.
* Likely FE

For a change, my wife is all excited about the Eon and is eagerly awaiting a test drive on it. Don't know if my frequent discussions (from team-bhp) with her about cars has had anything to do with it. But according to her, the Eon is a "cute" car which is perfect for our family in all aspects. Will our i10 get a little sibling or will our Alto800 have a partner in the near future? Only time (and my bank balance) will tell.

Just read in a tweet that the production cost of an Eon is 1.5L ! Guess some killer pricing is in store for this car! Lets see, just a day for the launch !

If that is the case, the Hyundai has every reason to have a big smile -- they will sell the Eon by the thousands and each Eon will earn them a neat little profit.

Car looks smashing from photos ... Looks very good deal.

More than Alto killer i guess it is going to be a Santro & i10 killer. People coming to Hyundai showroom will definitely get attracted towards this car. Maruti has loyal customers & they have different class of people for Alto mainly. So i guess it will mainly kill Santro & eat share of i10. They need to match price with Alto else its tough to beat alto. Alto has advantage of A.S.S. & spare prices, availability. Alto is like maintaining low average bike e.g. kinetic honda

Whoa Sid, I'll be tuned in till midnight and if your "first drive" report is not posted by then, I'll be cursing you till the crack of dawn.

For now, do you have any teasers to post?

Think in a different way - Alto is mostly the first car of lot of people. And that's where the loyalty starts - with the ownership of one's first car. Now, for those looking at a first car in the Alto segment, Eon will prove to be a much more upmarket car in terms of quality. So will the majority fall for Alto or Eon? And this is one of the BEST ways for Hyundai to build a HUGE loyal customers database.

Edit:: I believe Hyundai is shrewd enough to play smart not to kill the i10 with this product. But a Santro killer? Yes, it could be - unless Hyundai has some smart plans to avoid it.If I were to make a call, I would cut down the Santro prices below the Alto by a good 20K and price the Eon a 10 K above Alto base / equivalent variant prices.

Same logic should apply to Wagon R & Swift, Dzire as well then. Are they not having neck to neck competition? They have. Still they are winners in respective segments. right? Swift is selling like anything even after launch of I20, Polo, Micra, Punto etc. Dzire is still way ahead of Manza, Accent, Etios, etc. Wagor is also leading a long way even after 10 years.

So i guess similarly alto will do its business even though Eon is there.

If Hyundai has to retain the Santro, it should market it differently. First, add that gem 1.2 Kappa2 on the Santro and price it a below (Rs 30K) the i10. Add some fitments, tweak it up a bit and then, market the Santro as an "all-new Santro" with a new Kappa2 engine. This would ensure that the 'bigger' Santro would be positioned between the higher end Eon and the lower end i10.

Hyundai should also have the Eon with two engine variants: Eon800 and Eon 1.1 (borrowing either the Santro 1.1 engine or the the IRDE2 engine from the i10).
