Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My 13 year old M800 has just under 59k kms on the odo. That's about 4500 km yearly. It used to average 6000km yearly at its peak when it was in my native. Now I use it only on weekends due to the maddening traffic - it pains me a lot if it gets scratched even a bit, which happened once when the car was parked . I am very careful while parking, this happened even though the car was parked as close as is possible to the kerb on a very wide road.

My other car which is in my native, a Ritz petrol, mainly used by dad has covered only 10k kms in 3 years averaging 3333 kms a year.

After I got a two wheeler in Chennai, the M800 does something like 100 km a month. I know it makes more sense to hire a taxi than to retain a car for a monthly running of around 100 kms, but then this baby is so fun to drive, still plasters a smile on my face, every time I take it out. Fun to drive is not something you would normally associate with a M800, but then, the 5 speed is no ordinary 800 either.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My Old mpfi 2000 built M800 petrol lies idle for months with maximum running limited to 3-10 kms in weeks .

It has clocked almost 50K in 13 years ! That is about 3846 Km in an year and approx only 10 kms a day ! Last time I checked and took it for some regular maintenance, the coolant was over , insides were all rusted. We emptied water cans in it approx 11 times, it was all rust ! A hell lot of rust, almost appeared as if blood !

My esteem has run quite a bit. 2007 built > 55K kms.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

This brings to my mind about my Dad's 2000 model Daewoo Matiz. It was purchased from the showroom in the month of February. By the time it was sold in February 2013, the car had logged only 37800. However the car was mechanically in fantastic condition and she used to return an amazing 19-20 KMPL on the highway and within city it was dropping to 15-16.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My cars:-
  • M800: bought used with 40 K Kms on the odo in Dec 1989. Sold in Aug 2001 with 75 K Kms on the odo. This works out to 35 K in 68 months, or less than 200 kms a month!
  • WagonR : Bought in July 2001. Now has 65300 on the odo. This is around 5155 kms a year or 429 kms per month.
  • Fiesta: Bought in March 2007, has 38400 on odo now. Works out to 6400 kms a year or 533 a month.
  • Figo tdci: Bought in Oct 2012. Has 6300 on odo now. Works out to around 1150 kms a month.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My Alto has done 16500 KM in 3 years and 9 months. At least half of this would have been on highways during outstation drives. But my bike has done107000 KM in about 13 years!

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My Wagon-R has clocked about 17,000 in 3 years - mostly on highways. I depend on my trusted Activa and Passion to do the duties for me in the city. The very thought of searching for parking, fuel expenses due to back to back traffic, and the stress of making it through chaotic Bangalore traffic makes me keep the car back in the parking and use it when necessary only.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My 2008 Wagon R has clocked ~30k kms.

We bought it in August 2008. So in approx 4 yrs and 8 months its standing at 30k kms. a mere avg of around 6k kms / yr.

The car has only 2 highway trips. 1 trip to surat and another to Udaipur. rest all clocked 100% in the city.

Regards,

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

Ok, until I read this thread, I had thought that there would be only a few people with low mileage cars, but I was happy to see that there are many more people like me out there!

All our vehicles have/had low mileage mainly because -
* Distances in Pune where we commute are not any greater than 15-20kms max.
* Long distance trips are far and few in between
* Both my parents are doctors, so in Pune traffic, they find that a 2 wheeler come in handy for rushing to hospitals in case of emergencies.

First car - 1987 premier padmini - clocked ~67,000kms in 10 years. Sold off in 1997.
Second car -1997 maruti 800 - clocked ~7000kms in 4 years. Sold off in Dec 2000.
Third car - 2001 hyundai santro - clocked ~23000kms in 9 years. Sold off in Jan 2010.
Fourth car - 2003 honda city - clocked ~15000kms in 10 years. Still with us.
Fifth car - 2010 Micra - clocked 78xx kms in ~3yrs. Still with us. Will remain till I clock 1L kms (personal target!!)

O.T: All our 2 wheelers had much more mileage than our cars. For ex. my father's Activa has done ~45000kms in the last 2.5 years!

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I think I win.

January 2003 Maruti 800, 5200 kms. YES, five thousand and two hundred.

Reason being that it's my grandparents car and they only use it to run errands once a week. I must've clocked about 1500 kms on that car and if it wasn't for me, it would still have been at 4000 or thereabouts!

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My dad's car I must say beats you all hands down. Less than 10,000 Km in about 13 years. Yes you read it right.

My father stays in Rourkela (Orissa) where the distances are very short. Add to this the fact that he commutes to work by motorcycle and hence the car is used only for 2-3 times a month. It is a Maruti 800 bought in 2000.

Reason for buying car:- You get paid for having a car (or maybe for fuel and for which you don't have to show any receipts). Thus it is not an anomaly and it is quite common to find cars with similar (or even less) miles on them.

Thankfully.

I posted almost at the same time as you did. Hence, I didn't read your post.

And what good place it is turning out to be. I want to follow this thread very very closely so that I can get a low mileage car for my week-end drives
