Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

Very interesting to see a large number of owners who drive little.
My figo - May 2010 did 11,000km in the first 6 months and suddenly went into slow gears and it has completed 26510 as on date (took 2 years to cover 15k).

The reasons analysed -
1. I prefer two wheeler to office due to congested roads (metro construction has further reduced the road space)
2. Now a days my leave calendar do not match with my kids holiday and travelling by car with family for vacation has come down in the last two years.
3. During weekends, eventhough my mind says car, I am too lazy to remove the car cover, open/close the gates etc, to take the car. I need to change this and plan to use atleast two days/week to office in this summer.

Sometimes I feel the investment of 5.5 lakh is not really worth except the enjoyment and pleasure of self driving.

PS: My sister in law in Delhi has done just 1500 kms in the last three years and 2 months in her i10. She drops her kid to the school which is hardly 1.2 km to and fro.

Great thread!

Just curious. Diesel car owners, how do you compare your maintenance costs compared to your high-run counterparts? For example, if a diesel swift / punto is not run the service interval (10000 kms) in the recommended gap of an year, do you get it serviced nevertheless? I think the manual says 10000 kms or 1 year whichever is earlier.

How is it done in your cars? Thus, how does it reflect on the maintenance costs for a Diesel?

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

Wagon R Vxi - May 2011 - 4311 kms

I stay with my uncle since his house is near my office and this is his car. They came back from US after 38 years and had given me the money to go and buy a car for them. I went and bought the Wagon R, got all the accessories fitted and expected it to be driven around quite a bit, since the American way of life is on four wheels. I was quite surprised that they hardly use the car and I guess I have contributed more than half of the 4311 kms, mainly because I was feeling bad for the car. My uncle or aunt haven't sat behind the wheel even once.

I drive an esteem and its 74k in 6yrs.

Tata Indigo , 2004 , 35k KMs..!
Mainly used by my dad , his office was just 2 kms from our home.

Maruti Swift, 2010 , 18.2k KMs..
Again, due to the spiraling fuel costs, I dont use it as my daily drive, and use the bus to get to office instead.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

February 2011 Ford Figo 1.2-19150km

The car was bought by Mom to go to work and shopping, a big upgrade from her 15 year old M800!! The Figo covered about 16k km till June 2012 and once the Honda city was bought it was used for a few km per week!! Now she is dropped to work and goes shopping in a chauffeured driven car, leaving the figo for me mostly The 7 month old city is going for its 20k km servicing in a few days!!

Alto K10, Aug'2010, just crossed 8.8k km.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

Great thread and of course very honest posts are going.
I request all, to also post about maintenance (actually service) of your vehicle.
Like RGK (post no 106) told about an i10 just done 1500 kms in 3 years. For example, have the owners going engine oil change within specified time period, whether the vehicle covered specified mileage or not? Like this all other scheduled maintenance is carried out?

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I had bought a brand new i10 Kappa 1.2 Litre for my wife who drove it for a year or two and then lost interest in driving. Not surprising..eh?

We owned it for exactly 3.6 years

Sold at an approx 13,000kms on odo

Hello All,

Here comes my confession -

Maruti 800 - Bought in 1990. Sold in Oct 2005 - ODO reading: 13689 kms
Esteem VXi - Bought on 22nd April, 2005. Current ODO reading: 8769 kms

My father used to be on the sea (Bombay High) for a major portion of the year, till sometime ago. Now that, coupled with soaring fuel costs, superb transport facilities offered by the organization I work for and the fear of getting my car 'nicked' in the crazy Mumbai traffic (crept in when i was rear ended mid- last year ) has led to this very low running.

To add another point, we are more of a two-wheeler variety

Some recent snaps of my silver comet (More in 'my garage')

I guess, I am one of the serious contenders to be inching towards victory

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

I bought my used Fiesta TDCi in September 2012. It is a 2006 model car and when i bought it, it had done only 21000 kms. The owner mostly lives in Germany and hence the low mileage. But things changed as soon as I lay my hands on the car. Sep 2012 till Apr 2013= 7 months and in these 7 months I have done 13000kms. The odo now reads 34845 kms.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My 2010 Hero Honda Karizma R has just done 10,000kms in approximately 3 years. After buying it in the first two months i covered 3,000kms but after that its been sparingly used. I bought it at Bangalore but after few months i moved back to my native Kolkata. Here i use my car most of the time so the bike is used very less. Its mainly used for the week end joyrides in the highways.

Re: The "Low Mileage" Car Thread! How low is your running?

My i10: ~20k in 4.5 Year and my ZMA ~1k in 1 Year. Reason: I have always lived < 5km from my office so the daily commute is short plus having a car, a motorbike and a cycle as a means of transport distributes the total miles.
