Sorry does not look very nice from the front. In the photo from the photoshoot it looks ugly, more like a mini tavera.
However, the side and rear profiles are so much better. From the pics the 1st gen wagon r MAV rear makes a comeback and looks better than the rear of the current car.
A Wagon R stingray AT, delicious.

re: Maruti Stingray (WagonR) - Launched @ 4.09 Lakhs

Finally we get some thing that is JDM spec

Truly is a great looking product, IMO Maruti deserved this after a string of pointless limited edition models like the Dezire limited edition (Regal) & the joke of an Swift RS.

I think the designer would have gone home and expressed: "Honey, I shrunk the Sumo Grande and you know what? I even changed the front facia to that of Safari Storme"

Just making a car look sporty and not make any performance or safety related modifications, doesn't appeal to me. I have seen similar contraptions on road, where people make cosmetic changes to their car to make it appear as a drag or rally specialist and then they drive like maniacs to match the character of their car. In the process they put their and other's life at risk. If Maruti is really serious about the enthusiast segment, then they should improve the safety features and ride quality in Wagon-R and put an engine that produces much higher power and torque than the current engine.

This is esentially a tall boy. We hear people go gaga over doing 140 kmph in a WagonR. The vehicle has enough power already. Plonking a 1.2 litre engine in a WagonR is asking for trouble. The vehicle, which was utilitarian upto now, has actually started to look desirable, which I would say, is a positive sign. I really hope they bring back the passenger side airbag though.

Stingray is speculated to be priced around Rs 40,000-50,000 more than the current WagonR when it hits the showrooms soon.

If they are going to price it at 50k more than current WagonR, I guess they might launch it with the K12M.

If Maruti paid half as much attention on the car's proportions as it does on facelifts, Wagon R would be a far better car. What they need to do is add a couple of inches on the sides and reduce a couple of inches from the top. And then if they could put in slightly bigger wheels, Wagon R would be a well-proportioned, stable car. Currently, it is just a box with wheels.

Maybe the Stingray will get the AT option as well similar to the A-star.

K10 with 4 speed AT in a spacious hatch like Wagon-R is a very ideal package.

I feel that there is a traitor inside maruti. Whomsoever who leaked these pictures should not have done it. A huge trust is broken.

PS: Atleast this person could have masked the location and showed only the car. Now the location and a rough time when the photo was taken can be found. there is even a person in this picture.

re: Maruti Stingray (WagonR) - Launched @ 4.09 Lakhs

This time its a complete makeover which is looking very contemporary to me especially the rear. It is looking little MUVish but still overall this car will change the perspective of people who thinks WagonR is a boring looking car. This one is looking mature, sporty and modern. I hope Maruti guys will take care of the irritating vibrations in the K10 WagonR during idling.

But why they are adding this 'stingray' postfix to WagonR? Please just keep it simply the Maruti WagonR.

EDIT : And yes the person who took the pic, if caught, will not be spared by Maruti.

re: Maruti Stingray (WagonR) - Launched @ 4.09 Lakhs

Looks like Maruti has a serious identity crisis with Wagon R. What does it want to be?
A Car, A Van, A SUV?
Its not a hatch, the seating is not car like. Its not a Van, not spacious enough for a 3rd row or luggage space. It is not an SUV, was never in that league, only that the bonnet will now be visible from driver seat .

To me it now looks like a scaled down Tempo Traveler. But one thing for sure, its strong point, its a good people mover. Ingress and egress is easy even for senior citizens and plus size people.

This is a hot looking WagonR. I have always loved the first gen WagonR and hated the current gen. But this one's a looker.

I believe this will be sold slongside the current model. It looks too chic for mango people.

re: Maruti Stingray (WagonR) - Launched @ 4.09 Lakhs

If the final product that makes it to Maruti showrooms is identical to the pictures, this car is surely an uber chic little cheap hatchback which I am sure buyers wouldn't mind paying a premium over the utilitarian looking Wagon R. The front Range Rover-esque grill and lamps look too classy and even the rear of the car looks very sporty avec tuner-ish tail lamps.

If Maruti have been criticised heavily for their mindless limited editions, I believe they now need to be applauded for bringing such an awesome product to India for the image conscious hatchback buyer on a budget. I just hope that the interiors match the classiness of the exteriors.

If the Stingray is positioned and priced above the Wagon R and below the Swift, doesn't that result in this eating into the sales of the Ritz Petrol to a huge extent, as in my opinion, this car looks a lot more cooler, would carry decent equipment and possibly priced lesser than the Ritz with only the interior space being the plus point of the Ritz along with a slightly bigger engine.

Wagon R Stingray with all black interiors and an AT box. Will be my notion of an ideal city car.

Please launch it here MSIL.

re: Maruti Stingray (WagonR) - Launched @ 4.09 Lakhs

Finally!!
Looking at the way current small car lineup and its pricing I feel premium of 40-50K is what they are going to ask for though it is on the higher side. They could have simply replaced current WagonR with the StingRay version.

This is what MS has under the small car umbrella.
  • Rs. 294469 --> Alto800
    +~ 44K
  • Rs. 338604 --> AltoK10
    +~ 19K
  • Rs. 357513 --> Zen Estilo
    +~ 11K
  • Rs. 368267 --> WagonR
    +~ 28K
  • Rs. 395692 --> AStar
    +~ 52K
  • Rs. 447989 --> Ritz
    +~ 15K
  • Rs. 462702 --> Swift
So they still have room to squeeze in some car between
  1. Alto800 & AltoK10
  2. AStar & Ritz

The WagonR has lot going for it on the inside, it were the exteriors that were keeping buyers away, now the Stingray has sorted that issue out, will be interesting to see how it cannibalises on the other cars in the Maruti line-up, might even drag a few Swift LXI customers
