Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

What a hideous looking car!! Looks like they stitched up and connected the front of the Swift to the back of the Polo

We also need to know how crash worthy this car is going to be. Don't want the lightest car with the highest fuel efficiency and a zero rating in NCAP. Hope Maruti seriously focusses on the crash worthiness of the car.

Not a great looker but wouldn't say hideous. So it would have 1.3L DDiS too

True @not hideous. Infact, I liked it's looks. They aren't spectacular but it looks much different than other hatchbacks currently crowding the market. Gives the feeling that a different thought-process has gone into the design. May not be striking like an i20Elite, but certainly fresher than the rest. And seems pretty large from outside. I hope that translates to sufficient space inside & not cramped shoulders.

Boot surely looks practically sized.

The white looks like top of the line trim. Seems it has vertically aligned DRLs similar to the Zest (but in opposite slant angle).
But then the Black one has chrome window sills + alloy wheels (and no chrome / S logo on grille and no DRLs). Some mix and match.

Doesnt look like an indian manufactured car, since it has "Suzuki" badging. Has it been imported to do some tests? Asking because it looks like it has come in some cargo shipment.

If yes, then wouldn't this car already be selling in some other country?

Protruding rear, blackened a-pillar and Swift-like head lamps give it a DZire'ish look for the white car.

Anyway, this is a perfect platform for Maruti to build the sedan rumoured to be sitting above DZire.

Looks quite sober / decent. But is not as exciting too look as the swift was when first launched nor comparable to the current i20. But while the swift does look dated and a half segment below the i20 this will be able to hold its own against it. It is larger and with a time its looks will be appreciated. A sedan based on this? They already have that segment product now or do they? They can always do with one more in true suzuki style.

Exactly what came to my mind when I saw the pictures. But this car has managed to somehow look worse than both the "donor" cars. The black car with the spoiler looks better from the rear than the white one.

Where would this sit in the Maruti line-up? Can it be a replacement for the Ritz and sit under the Swift? I'm not sure there's much room in the market for a hatch above the Swift/i20 range.

It cannot sit below the Swift. Swift is way too old already compared to the latest i20. The YRA is much larger than the Swift. Cannot sit below the Swift.

Agree. I saw from the price list that there is about 60K gap between the top-end diesel versions of Swift and i20. So, there is space for something above the Swift, priced on par with Elite i20.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Am I the only one to think that the tail lamps seem to have been "inspired" by the A-Class?

First the Ciaz tail lamp looking dangerously similar to the new City's and now this ?

Maruti running short of design ideas or what?

Looks good not great, need to get more clear pictures. Black one not looking bad actually, looks some interesting car is in the making. Actually rare is looking boring, they need to do something about that. Tail lights looks small & boring. Need something classy like new Hyundai Elite i20. Front is good but too similar to old Swift, may be they need to change something there to avoid that. I am sure this car will be feature loaded & will be priced attractively. Surely it will be 4 m car in length, something like 3995 mm. Looking at the size, it seems it will have good amount of space with decent sized boot.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

I liked the black one. More than Polo, I feel the rear has similarity to Palio classic. And looking at the sleek profile, I could only think this is gonna be a better handler than Swift. The learnings from the current Swift in terms of ride & handling + a stonker of an engine (and a slightly better power steering) could make this a better seller than Swift!! ONLY if they managed a true "sports" variant for this model!

But knowing Maruti, they will be trying for a 30 kmpl FE tag from the 1.3L 75 bhp engine!

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Is the YRA under 4 meters. If not, with no duty benefits, am not sure if people would buy a 9 lakh rupee Maruti hatch even if it comes with the 1.4 petrol. It would probably sit close to Ciaz in pricing in that case.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Design is as usual typical Suzuki "Boring"!

Front looks has some design clues taken from Swift/Dzire and personally Swift will have a upper hand when it comes to front looks. I dont know if it is my perception only, rear design has a quite a lot of resemblance with Mercedes A Class. Anyways I would say a decent job from Suzuki but I feel it is still quite not enough to give a tough fight to more elegant Elite i20.
