Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

iK 2 unveiled at the Geneva show. The Suzuki iK-2 is a premium hatchback which is expected to spawn a future production.

Production version of this was seen here as YRA.

The Suzuki iK2 concept is 4023mm long, 1920mm wide and 1450mm high and has a wheelbase of 2520mm.
The Suzuki iK-2 concept is equipped with a new 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor – a direct-injection turbo-petrol unit. Suzuki has confirmed that the production version of the iK-2 concept will be launched in European markets in 2016.

Possible India unveiling of YRA will be in 2016 at the auto expo.

It looks like the Indian version will have its bumpers trimmed a bit to make the car duck below the 4 m mark - like the Fusion, Punto, new i20 etc.

The 1 litre direct injection turbo petrol is welcome. Any news on the diesel engine option?

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

At 1920mm it is wide as a bus I think it could be a typo. Even the Innova is at 17xx and Fortuner at 18xx.

Considering that the car has been spotted multiple times with Swift headlamps, why is the launch only proposed for 2016? Hoping it arrives early. Dearth of turbo petrols (only 3) in the hatch category and under 10L.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

What I am concerned is that they have a concept now which comes in production in a year or two. And we have on the road a design like I20 which is already making lots of heads turn. So the point is when Suzuki gets its premium to market, the I20 design would also have worked one level. Need to see how Suzuki works through timelines fast and at the same time, keeps the design fresh and in the hunt.

It seems it is a typo and most websites / publications have gone with it. I think it should be in the range of 1720 mm wide. Otherwise a very wide hatchback is not conducive for congested city traffic and parking conditions, atleast in India. Just noticed that the quoted URL of Autocar by Volkman10 mentions the width at 1709 mm, which seems reasonable & practical.

Well, from the looks of it, seems like it's gonna be a low slung car. I like low slung cars mainly because they offer good driving experience and they look "se*y". While I can't comment on the driving part, the looks (although subjective) are not that impressive. The current i20 and Polo look better. Hope MS will address this in production version.

My guess is that it will be powered by the same diesel engine that's in the Ertiga.

1920 mm is the width of the car including the wing-mirrors!

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the YRA B2 segment hatchback and YBA compact SUV in India. While a confirmed launch date is awaited, Suzuki has revealed the iM-4 and iK-2 concepts at the ongoing Geneva motor show. The Maruti YRA hatchback is essentially the production version of the iK-2 concept, while the iM-4 is a sub-4 metre SUV concept.

While the iM-4's front looks nice, the rear is the ugliest I have seen in a very long time. The designers of Verito Vibe must be smiling looking at this.

Whats up with that massive C-pillar, one can rent out that space for commercials and pay his car loan EMIs

The design definitely sees a strong JDM influence. Even I'm wondering what's up with that rear, but then again, the Japanese Alto is as quirky as it gets. The YBA may pick up a few styling cues from the iM-4, but the design is still going to be XA Alpha all the way.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Suzuki should either poach the concept-design team in Tata Motors OR outsource this work to them. Either way win-win situation for both

iK-2 reminds me of the Datsun Go. If this is going to be pitched against Elite i20, Polo etc, then good luck with long term sales.

This is one case where I would really hope the actual production models to be different from the concept.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

The good news is that Maruti acknowledges that i20 / Polo are half a segment above Swift and are working on this competing model. With such strong and well established contenders already in the segment, the value proposition and price of iK2 will need to be spot-on especially considering that new Honda Jazz would (in all likelihood) also be launched by the time iK2 arrives.

Maruti is an expert at positioning models very close to each other in same segment (5 hatchbacks in A/B segment) while retaining individuality of each model. It will be interesting to see how Maruti rejigs positioning of Swift to accommodate iK2.

More pics of the iK -2, expect the YRA to have more bits of chrome.

Thanks for the info. Then, the width of 1709mm mentioned for Im-4 is also including ORVMs?
