re: The 2017 Hyundai Verna. Launched at 8 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi

Saw two Vernas (heavily camouflaged, but why?) in the BLR - Chennai highway - Loved the way both of them were composed in high speeds (no diving or up/down movements) - Should be definitely better than the current ones for both ride and handling (I was riding a Street Triple (675)) so didn't try to take photos while I overtook them

The interiors (in a glance) looked premium with a large display in the center.

Hi Sriram
Those are actually the test mules that continue to run around the city to
a. Create excitement . (See, we are now talking about it ;-))
b. They might be using the existing mules/protos for some other trials.
BTW, your appreciation about their ride seems to be the assuring 👍🏻

Seems to me super pricing from Hyundai.
Guess this is the ex showroom price. Little birdie in chennai said the top diesel MT's OTR ballpark cost is 1.5million bucks

re: The 2017 Hyundai Verna. Launched at 8 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi

I won't be surprised if the Verna diesel is priced on par or slightly above Honda City Diesel (not saying they would). Verna Diesel is significantly better than the Honda unit and feature-wise loaded to the brim. The City at least to me still doesn't feel premium enough and the Verna feels a little more plush. Hyundai as a brand is more confident than ever before and it might just reflect in their pricing.

This is the price list of outgoing verna in chennai

I would be very surprised if the quoted kolkatta price is a reality for the new incoming next gen verna. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I have a small hunch. Since the gst council is meeting on 9th September for ratification of cess, Hyundai may go all out to aggressively price the verna and create a big hype and then increase the price a bit after ratification.

My SA told me that after the first lot which is allotted to the prebooked customers the second lot will come only during diwali. So my hunch can become a reality.

re: The 2017 Hyundai Verna. Launched at 8 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi

While we keep guessing the prices of this New Verna, the fact remains that it won't undercut Maruti (Ciaz) by any means.

No other Hyundai car has been priced lower then it's equivalent Maruti, so the same case should apply here too. Though i agree that Maruti have made some mistakes too, like Overpricing SCross 1.6 & Ignis.

IMO, the Verna will be priced 75-100k more then Ciaz variant to variant. Ciaz has 1.3 Diesel which has benefits over Hyundai's 1.6 CRDi. So, that will put Verna in a higher price bracket by default even though they are same Segment cars.

Another thing is that, even though Hyundai will be looking at Volumes after having bailed out to City & Ciaz since 2014, Hyundai will also be looking at Profit like they have done on Creta. So, I wouldn't be surprised if Verna Petrol is priced at same level as City Petrol & Diesel priced above Ciaz. They may undercut Honda, but not Maruti.

I am looking at a replacement for either my Tiago or i20, both being Diesel. If Hyundai does manage to price this New Verna well, I may think of one, surely for that Diesel Automatic which Ciaz & City lack. Infact, that Diesel Automatic is the lone reason i am looking at this Verna.

In other terms & overall packaging, I prefer City. No I won't be buying it, as we already have one .

The Diesel AT is a strong contender and should get many homes.

But Hyundai really need to get the ride sorted on this one. Not handling, but the ride. That is the main drawback of the current Verna. You just cannot be comfortable on the rear seat over fast flowing roads.

A friend on mine owns one and his family absolutely hates to travel in it. Hopefully Hyundai has worked on it. The new i20 and Creta rides well for instance.

Yeah! Sometimes I do wonder whether our market is maturing at all looking at marketing collateral like this.

And brings me to the following question!

Who is more deluded?
1) Is it the manufacturer who thinks they can influence the larger market by making some petty comparisons forgetting the larger picture?
2) Or is it the mass market who still gets massively influenced by that aerodynamic shark fin antenna and the chrome borders everywhere??
3) Or is it most of us over here who is far removed from what sells and how it sells?

I've been hearing that the New Verna uses the new Elantra 's platform . Is it true?

A quick google search revealed that the new Verna is based on a new 'K2' platform, and Elantra is based on Hyundai-Kia J6 platform.

I've no idea what any of it means, but at the very least it looks like they are not sharing the same platform name.

One thing to note is that the outgoing Verna shared the platform with i20. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyunda...bile_platforms

Yes. The platform is shared with the Elantra, with the top hat being different.

Seeing the price list above, the older (outgoing) Verna which was based on the i20 platform and didn't come with a sunroof, ventilated seats, Eco Coating for ACC, projector fog lamps, hands-free trunk, 50% "advanced" steel, etc. etc., and still commanded close to 14.5 lakhs OTR for the top-end diesel MT, how can one expect this new, next-gen Verna's top-end diesel MT, with all of the above, to cost anywhere below 16L-16.5L OTR (given Hyundai's self-proclaimed "premium" positioning too)?

It won't be a VFM offering, that's for sure.

Happy to share some more pictures of the 2017 Verna.

Has good presence. I really liked the black slashes on the rear bumper.
