On Saturday I spotted this Indica V3 without any hiding. Saw it in flesh when driving in opposite lane near Talegaon on NH 4. It is a bit bigger than the current indica. Headlights run through the bonnet till near the windshield. Turn indicators are put on top pf the headlight bulbs like the ones available in current Indigo. The rear end looks much like Ford Fusion and tail lights are a bit straight than tilted available in current indica. I was driving and so could not click snaps. Overall a bit good looking car than current Indica.

What are the new features expected in X1? Please list them as 1. Must have and 2. Nice to have.

Search for the Auto-Expo threads, you will find plenty of pics.

Some Insiders in Tata have told me that Oct is the most likely launch timeframe for the new Indica.
Tata is planning to time the release Just before diwali to cash upon the Diwali car buying rush.

Nothing is being launched before Nano. Tata is busy with Nano and everything else is back seat. BTW Nano is coming in Sept 2008(bookings).

I would opine that they will launch the V3 and the nano a month before diwali - the occasion of Dussehra is considered quite auspicious to purchase a vehicle in most parts of the country. This would be about 15 days before Diwali and hence cars would be in showrooms a week or two before Dussehra.

New Indica pics

I had taken these pictures at the Auto Expo but couldn't post them earlier simply because I didn't know how to. Thank you mods for providing the new, easy-to-use facility of posting pics directly.

The all new Indica Vista (V3). Launch on 23rd August!-dsc00714.jpg
The headlights are huge.

And so are the taillights.

FM antenna is where it should be: on the roof, for better reception. A lot of V2 owners eventually go in for roof antenna.

Side indicators are located quite unusually: adjacent to the A pillar base.

Unlike Indica V2, the metal between the bonnet and the windshield in New Indica is covered with moulded plastic. Logan and Maruti 800 are the only other cars I can think of which do not feature such cladding.

One big improvement over the current Indica is the placement of power window switches. All windows can now be controlled from the driver's door. Note the improved quality of door moulding.

The speaker slots appeared to be quite small. Here's the front door slot.

The rear door speaker slot.

The car looks much roomier than V2.

The all new Indica Vista (V3). Launch on 23rd August!-dsc00756.jpg
The rear seat is roomier than that of V2. Quality of interiors, a major complaint with V2, appeared much superior too.

The boot.

Another pic of the boot.

The rear. TM's cost-cutting move results in a centre-mounted instrument cluster. What happens if the Europeans don't like it? Will Tata then be forced to come out with separate LHS and RHS dashboards?

New Indica gets a twist beam suspension at the rear instead of fully independent in V2.

Yes. X1 is Tata Motor's internal designation for the new Indica platform which will also form the basis for the new Indigo. X2 is the new SUV platform. X3 is the Nano platform. It is said that an X4 platform is also planned to bring out a small car in between the Indica and Nano.

V3 is an unofficial term that's sometimes used to distinguish the new Indica from the old one.

Thanks DI,
It is all new platform with increased wheelbase, lenght, width, height. Improved plastics and nice grains. Instrumental is angled towards the driver. World class engines Hope they put best matching gears unlke (Palio 1.3).

14" Tubless, the top end must have ABS & Airbag.

Why do they develop & test 1.5 Natural Aspirated engine? I guess it should replace the older Indica's with this Low weight burner(i guess). Is there any chance of this meeting Bharat iv? the current 1.4 NA meets Bharat 3. I think their logic is to come out with Honewell turbo and Bosch Common rail pump later to make 1.5 Dicor with 100 bhp, VGT etc to power the New Indigo series.

With their Dicor engine they can save the license cost / margin for the Fiat engines.

one thing i love about the indica is its ICE-ablity. though the panels are no great shakes, you can fit 4" in the dash or 5/6 inchers in the door. I hope they dont ruin that with the new indica. Hope those speaker locations arent too small/ some weird size
