Indian Police Cars

Just saw this ad in the Hindu (24/10/2006). Hyundai is gifting 100 Accents to the Chennai City Police. Take a look.

Sign of the times, i guess.

comments, guys.

Isnt that a negative comment? Atleast our police will look more stylish in an Accent rather than the shoddy Mahindra Jeep which has endless starting problems. Let this be a beginning and let our police roam in a toyota or BMW or Benz in the future.

ha ha ! in that case, the ikons would have to be gifted to the police long before the accents. there are huge number of ikons parked in the factory as well as the yards.

A lot of countries have police cars based on the Skoda Octavia/Superb platforms. I know Israel does, and so do a few East European countries. Whenever I look at the Skoda 'New' Octavia and the Superb, I can't help thinking how good police cars/cruisers/Interceptors they could become. Esp the Superb has space for modifications additional protection in the front, heavy duty suspensions, enough space to barrier the rear seat without making the rear seats look like a bird cage etc.

the Iraqi Police Force uses the Hyundai Accent apart from the various Pick-Ups they have....anyways its a step in the right direction for our police forces....and maybe a precedent for other companies to do such 'donations' as our state govt is broke perpetually.....hope the chennai police maintain their cars well.

The cops have a budget. They take out a tender whenever they need more vehicles for their fleet. All companies bid (Mahindra,Suzuki, Toyota..etc) for the contract. After the arrival of Qualis (diesel, more space, power, FE)...Suzuki (Gypsy) lost bids in many states...that is why you see so many Qualis PCR vans on our roads.

When our MPs/MLAs get an esteem/ambassador/ikon at the maximum what makes you think they will allow poor old constables to ride on Superbs?? in this case the accents were gifted to them...otherwise they wouldn't have even dreamt of getting one. Lets pray...other companies follow suit!! like you even i would like to see cop cars like in the west...but we are far from that dream.

if you ask me..in realistic terms the zen could have been a good cop car for the cities!! compact cars can roam in more freely in the bylanes than a proper big car!! remove the rear seats..add in all your cop gizmos...the trademark red and blue lights on top..it could be a good alternative for... say a qualis in congested cities like delhi/b'lore!! and now with the zen being discontinued the cops can get the zens at a bargain basement price!! what say?? shall we call the commissioner??

In western countries, a cop usually travels alone or maybe one partner.

In india, there is ususlly a driver, an inspector riding shotgun and 4-5 hefty havaldars in the back.

I can't imagine the plight of the poor Accent with its soft rear suspension.

And I also hope it dosent bocome a personal car for some superindent to ferry his kids to school and take his wife to the market.
