Yes, I agree with you that some other people are comparing Verna with other brands launched earlier, and even with cars in other segments. Reg. the no.of cars on the road, I was not here when the Fiesta was launched last november. So dont have an idea how much numbers to expect after two months of launch of a new model.

Well Ford was telling Fiesta sold more than 5000 units in the initial month. But when did we start seeing the cars actually?

These figures are nationwide figures. Also the cars are not alone bought by people residing in cities. People from villages and small towns who can afford to buy these will also buy. We may not see them.

The figures given by Ford for Fiesta and Hyundai for Verna according to me is true. How can companies give inflated sales figures in their own websites? It gonna affect them negatively with respect to the taxes and other stuffs.....

Good point Boom, I had been wondering the same thing but then the Civic has been on sale for nearly 5 months now so we're seeing lots of them.

About the Verna, it's been bothering me too. Hyundai's constantly quoting good figures but the actual numbers visible are low in Delhi/Moradabad too. I can't really understand why this is happening & the most logical answer seems to be inflation of figures. But let's wait a couple of months more & then see whether the numbers are true or not.

I was speaking to an industry expert on the topic of inflated sales figures. He insisted that, with the strict regulations and SIAM, it is impossible to a company to boast. If at all:

1. They would keep a 10% margin of error.

2. They would include exports in the publicised sales figures.

The second point is quite a factor. But Verna is not for exports. So if SIAM is right then hyundai is also right in the sales figures with that 10% margin of error.

I think we're debating the Verna sales numbers here......the overall sales figures would include the other models (and their exports) so how are you arriving at an accurate number of Verna's sold??????? You are assuming.......because SIAM figures do not give the modelwise breakup IIRC

It is a known fact especially among the auto-mags that Hyundai inflates their sales figures by including their Export figures in the Total cars sold figure & not defining it clearly. Not sure if the Verna is being exported though.

I live part-time in a very affluent small town & there are only 3 Verna's here including one bought by a friend on my insistence. Comparatively there are about 10-15 Civics.

Well this thread is full of assumptions. You can also assume. Or just confirm this factor too with SIAM.

What would you term as successful for any car model? Is it the number of cars sold within 3 months of launch? In that case the Palio could be termed a huge huge success. But all of us know how the car has fared ever since the initial euphoria. Similarly, let us consider the new cars in the C segment(not entry level) i.e. the NHC ZX, Fiesta, Aveo and Verna.
According to me its too early to judge whether the Verna is a success. Of the other three, the Aveo sells a few hundred per month, the Fiesta after the initial fireworks, sells around 1500 a month(and the numbers are moving south) while the NHC ZX continues to sell at an average of over 3000 per month and that too it has no diesel in the range.

Today there are substantial discounts/freebies being doled out on the Fiesta (including the diesel) which is not the case with the NHC. My prediction is the Verna will suffer the same fate as the Fiesta. And what will happen when the new Baleno is launched is anybody's guess as I don't see Maruti making the same mistake as it did with the current Baleno.
