Yaris is 3945mm in length in Canada. This will work out pretty well for the Indian market if brought to our shores.

Looks to be competing with Jazz, i20, Baleno. Toyota is losing out on a huge segment by not having any players in them.

I agree! They can easily fit in the sedan and hatchback in their respective segments. But from the spy shots it looks like the sedan will come in first. Both models can shake up the segment if Toyota keep their sensibilities intact and price it well.

I would rather see the Yaris hatch (XP150) with over 4m , 1.5L petrol engine +Auto rather than the US model with 1.2L engine. The platform is the same, so I will be happy to get surpised by Toyota .

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

The model is going to be exactly the same as the one which is available in Singapore as Vios. As I told earlier there no diesel option and with uncertainty around Diesel/BS-6 there might not be any Diesel. Automatic would be available at launch - 7 Speed CVT.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

These are my wish list for the Yaris/Yaris Ativ

Realistic wish list
  • 1.5 L dual vvt-i engine both for the sedan and hatch
  • Standard airbags and ABS across variants
  • 7 speed super CVT on atleast 2 variants.
  • 7 airbags ( atleast optional ) on atleast 2 variants like the way they gave an optional security pack for the Etios on all variants when they first launched it.
  • ESC and TRC ( atleast optional ) on atleast 2 variants.
  • Ground clearance similar to the new Etios and Indian Corolla.
  • Suspension tune similar to the Etios
  • Lumbar support Adjustments for driver seat
  • Automatic start/stop feature atleast on 2 variants
The real wish list
  • Automatic option on all variants
  • Optional premium safety pack on all variants ( 7 airbags + ESC/TRC/ABS/EBD )
  • Euro 6 Diesel Engine option which has peak torque from 1400 rpms.
  • Hybrid Engine option
  • Sunroof option
  • Height adjustment and lumbar support for the passenger seat as well ( atleast on the top end variant. ) I know this is not given on any of the competition cars. But, this is something basic required for proper comfort and we get these features only from Camry! If manufacturers read this post, please consider this for your next mass selling model! This is more important than a sun roof or rear ac vent on a sedan!
  • Tinted glasses out of the factory ( atleast for the top end variant ). Manufacturers, if you are listening, you are the only ones who can install it legally on an automobile after that supreme court ruling that puts a blanket ban on sun control films. It'll be such a relief for a country that has such an abundance of sunlight.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

By now we know that this Vios/Yaris will be showcased at AutoExpo.
But any idea on the launch/deliveries ? Will it happen within the first half of this year ?

Anyone looking for a petrol automatic was only looking at the Honda city till now. Now there might be a 3-way battle(if Ciaz too launches with CVT and that new 1.5L petrol)

But I completely agree. Manufacturers can at-least offer this as a feature on the top trips (Optional top trips like the Asta (O) that Hyundai has and ZXi+ that MS offers) to start with.

Hello Sir,

The hatch you are talking about is most probably the Yaris hatchback which is on sale in other countries.

It comes with the same powertrain, features and interiors as the Yaris sedan, the only difference being the boot and the extra legroom. The automatic transmission will most probably be Toyota's Multidrive 7S transmission which is offered in other countries.

Yaris Ativ around Ciaz price range (or a slight premium over it) will make it a grand success, and average performer if price it close to City.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

Hello Folks,

I have lived in Dubai and the Yaris is abundant there.
Here are some facts/observations about the Yaris sold in the UAE and other countries.

1) Available in two forms- A hatchback and a Sedan. The Sedan version will launch first and the hatch might launch a bit later.

2) Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), Cruise Control and Rear Foglamps are now standard in the Yaris Sedan in addition to Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

3)Powered by a 105 PS 1.5 Litre VVT-I Petrol paired with Toyota's MULTI DRIVE 7S transmission.

4) The previous gen Yaris had a centrally mounted instrument cluster (like the Etios here) which has now been moved in front of the driver.

5) Nine paint finishes are on offer.

6)Comes with split-folding rear seats.

7)Comes with a push start button in the top variant.

really???

Except for the Qualis which at launch had the most refined rivals in Sumo and Marshall and the rumoured origins of Etios platform from the Echo/vitz platform, I just can't find a single instance where Toyota had dumped end-of-life products in India.

They are super slow in launching new products and almost take our market for granted. But the one thing they do properly is dutifully update the small number of models in line with international markets.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

I think it's a daydream that the new car will be launched around Ciaz. I think this car will be launched around Verna/City range. They have a good gap from 11-16 lakhs.

Hope a premium hatch too follows suite.
