Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

Full for having the Yaris launched with the perfect amount of kit.

7 airbags, traction control, all wheel disc, hill start assist, front parking sensors et al.

But..... That roof mounted rear A/C vents? Really?

Maybe they didn't want to receive flak for not giving one in a segment that flaunts them. Funny, the Corolla didn't get this 'Indian' treatment.

Also got the mechanicals right, except that they could have plonked the 1.4 D-4D with the 90bhp tune in. Maybe would have cannibalized whateva sales Corolla had.

Was apprehensive when read of rumours that it would get the Etios power train, but seems like they just brought along the Singapore spec.

6 speed manual and 7step CVT are good options, plus a hybrid possibility in the future.

Though, pricing is a gamble looking at Toyota's pricing history except for Etios twins.
I would usually defend Toyota's pricing citing reasons, but in this case they have no plausible excuse except greed if they price it at a premium above City/Verna.
It is priced just below City/ Verna in other markets, so considering the features they have for the Indian model, they can price at par with the City, anything more.... Well, just that it won't be called VFM, but it would still sell like hotcakes with that mini-Corolla looks.

So directly gunning for the Honda City. Where diesel sales are less.

Good engine, transmissions and safety kit. Hope the prices are aggressive too. Toyota is a big brand in itself - but so is City.

Excellent package for the segment. Hope the CVT is their super CVT transmission.

The roof blower looks like a small split ac and i believe the breeze will be coming from the wing section. From the look of it i think its going to be just an air repeater (i coined a new term ) which sucks cabin air through the centrally located grill and blow through the wings.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

So, Toyota breaks all our assumptions and answers all our wish lists. I mean, by feature list, they have too many segment first. Knowing Toyota, pricing would not be aggressive atall. I guess, we are looking somewhere at 10 – 14 ex-showroom.
I agree, it will be runaway hit even at that price. IMO, my only point is it won’t hurt City or Verna as badly, rather cannibalize Corolla sales and somehow eats into Elantra sales.

10-14Lakh! Then what is your expected sales numbers for Yaris? Corolla and Elantra combined sells around 400 units per month. If Yaris eats all this and not affecting the C-segment sedans much, 500-1000 units will ensure it a runaway hit?

IMO, Yaris has to be priced in the 7-10L range. Just because they can sell the exorbitantly priced Crysta and Fortuner in good numbers doesn't translate into the arrogance of pricing it in the 10+ lakh price range. It's not like Toyota can sell anything and everything here. Proof? Just see what Etios and Liva are doing at the bottom of their line-up and Indian sales chart.

What is the comparison here? Corolla and Elantra are in a different segment with prices starting at around 13 lakhs and 15.75 lakhs respectively and goes all the way upto 19-20 lakhs (all ex-showroom).

The Yaris, with its size, engine option and features on offer is bang-on in the City/Verna/Vento segment. When the City goes for around 9-14 lakhs, Verna for 8-13 lakhs, and Vento for 8-14 lakhs (all ex-showroom), 9-14 or 10-15 lakhs for a Yaris doesn't really look to be arrogant pricing. Even a Ciaz goes for 8-12 lakhs; considering that, 7-10 lakhs will happen only if Toyota is on a charity drive!

I predict 8.3L for base variant and 12.99L ex-showroom for top CVT variant

It is the second time today I am disagreeing you with the pricing. I don't know about Fortuner but when Innova was introduced wasn't it VFM for what it offered? Slowly after getting the market confidence, it is priced as it is now. As for the pricing of Yaris, I agree with Latheesh.

Pricing will be on par with Honda City, I am expecting top end CVT with 7 airbags to cost around 13.99 Lacs ex showroom Delhi.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

The Yaris to Altis is what the E-class LWB is to the S-class! Makes the latter ones feel overpriced.

There is a lot of design and interior parts that seems almost right off the Altis. Especially the steering, instrument cluster and dashboard.

Good job Toyota ! Hope they don’t mess up the pricing.

Honda City ZX Auto is 13.7L ex-showroom now and it has sun roof. Outside India this car costs slightly less than City.

Re: Scoop! Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan spotted testing in Bangalore

The first impression is real positive!

It's loaded with
  • 1.5l Dual vvt-i
  • 7 airbags
  • Traction control
  • 7 speed Super cvt/6 speed manual
  • All wheel disk brakes
  • Rear air vents
  • Hill start assist

And supported by the unmatched Toyota reliability.
I hope, it has cruise control and manual sequential shift option as well.

The pricing should be in the range of 9 to 13 lakhs INR unless if Toyota wants to do charity or compromise on safety/durability. Since i don't expect them to do either of the above, it should be in the city's price territory.

Eagerly waiting for the variant wise features.
