So, does this mean that the 7 seater will be launched first and not the 5 seater... But I think the 5 seater version was supposed to be launched first and then the 7 seater..

I am actually waiting for the 5 seater and will buy in all probability...

What about this (Rumour: Tata Motors planning 2 SUVs with Land Rover inputs) ACI scoop which clearly showed the interior of the current version being tested - as that of a 5 seater?

Finding this tough to believe, though your sources are always right. The roofline, the interior shots etc make me believe that the current versions being tested is the 5 seater - and the 7 seater might be slightly bigger and could start testing later.

The test mules look too short to sport 3rd row seats. As you mentioned I believe the test mules are 5 seater rather than 7. If at all Tata manages to squeeze those extra seats, god bless people sitting in there.

Notice the last pic of that ACI scoop?

Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs-tatah5xrearseat.jpg

That's the 7-seater with the last row removed.

The angle of the picture seems to convey the impression that there isn't enough room behind the 2nd row of seats, but actually there's plenty. You can have an idea from all the subsequent pics of spotted test mules when you compare the space between the B-pillar and the C-pillar.

Those pics were taken inside the Tata plant specially for ACI to post it as an exclusive. No coincidence that they came out almost immediately after the 2018 Auto Expo was over and the H5X concept evoked the most interest among all cars on display there.

The info I posted above comes directly from someone who is actively involved with these test mules. I can't disclose more than this. Sorry. The choice is up to the people reading these pieces of insider information I post - whether to believe them or not.

Added info - the 5-seater prototype has the same stubby C-pillar and the same sloping roof at rear. Visually, from outside, it won't look much different from the 7-seater.

Is it visually similar as in identical or visually similar as in different dimensions but similar design? The video at the Expo suggested the 2nd case.

Exterior-wise, the sloping roof is the only notable difference, if one observes carefully.

The 7-seater has lesser slope on the roof and is slightly more upright, compared to the 5-seater. This is to provide extra headroom and all-round space for the 3rd row passengers in the 7-seater.

For the 5-seater, the slope is more pronounced. Sharper design, as the H5X concept.

Think in these terms - the 5-seater will have a silhouette similar to the Evoque, while the 7-seater will have visual similarities to the Discovery.

Regardless of the angle, if that is all the space for the extra 2 seats, I hope the second row is adjustable on rails.

If not, as said earlier by someone God bless those 2 people.

The discovery sport of similar proportions also looks similar however it too has a third row. Now like most similarly sized SUV's it will be a bit cramped. Its the same story on the Endeavour or Fortuner too. Only vehicles like the Hexa/Innova Crysta are better but then these are not SUVs.

Re: Rumour: Tata Motors planning 2 SUVs with Land Rover inputs

Tata's H7X is a SUV so what I feel is, it will have side facing jump-seats(Safari Storme style) in the 3rd row instead of the front facing bench-seats(Hexa like).

@RavenAvi, sir is this the case ?

All are same, as the Innova Crysta I travelled in while in Bangalore on last Monday & Tuesday has even worse 3rd row. I dreaded going in 3rd row had there been any need to.

Re: Rumour: Tata Motors planning 2 SUVs with Land Rover inputs

The looks [from whatever can be made out] are good and the new designs from Tata are pretty neat. I just wish the approach angle is as good as the Fortuner/Endeavor for the 4X4 variant.

Re: Rumour: Tata Motors planning 2 SUVs with Land Rover inputs

I had an opportunity of a short test ride in one of these vehicles. below are my observation, cant provided more details due to obvious reasons.
1. Very spacious and extremely comfortable seats. Much larger than Jeep.
2. Impressive NVH and ride quality
3. Modern dashboard and meter console.
4. Doors closed with thud

The five seater or the seven seater? Any comments on the third row of seats - space and comfort?

Previous benchmark - Duster - was a pretty small monocuque platform and derived from a small sedan.
