Exactly! Pratap Bose said that the concept shown at the Auto Expo was ~95% production spec. Why slander a poor innocent test mule?

Almost all the details were retained except for things like the compass etc.

What are those protrusions on either side of the Hornbill's rear windscreen for? I know manufacturers fix padding on test mules to hide the car's cuts and creases but this seems to be something else. It's not a part of the actual design definitely.

It's just additional padding to camouflage the side profile. Nothing more to it.

This is great news if true. The HBX has all the potential to be a disruptor and start a new segment. This is the product to take a risk on. If Tata gets it right, the HBX could be a sales stealer like the Ecosport and Duster were till the rivals caught up.

If this is true and it comes with a decent automatic I would prefer it over the Nexon even though it's a bit smaller. It would make city driving where it would spend 99% of its time easier especially when it comes to finding parking.
But I have a feeling it's going to launch with the 1.2NA just like the Altroz unless they replace it in the Altroz as well

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Great news actually. Tata should take time and tick all the boxes covering every customer, offering both manual and automatic options right from the launch.

They should not repeat the same mistake that they have done with Harrier and Altroz launches where the customers were left wanting more. A capable product should not be let down by improperly planned launches.

Just added camouflage to keep the suspense on the rear design and confuse some of the people who come up with online renders. The car should look 95% of the display car at the auto expo.

Tata could have a winner on their hands, only if they:
1. Product placement - market it like a baby Nexon, and I won't be surprised if it sells about 5k+ units per month. It can take a pie out of the Ignis, Venue 1.2, etc.

2. Price it well. (Top end HBX similar to base Nexon)

3. Engine - now this is crucial. I hope they don't mess it up like the Altroz petrol.

The above images are from the Auto Show. The final product wouldn't come with a compass and altimeter. Spy pictures have already shown that.

Re: Tata HBX Concept @ Auto Expo 2020

My only wish would be to not make it as funky as the Nexon. I still like the car a lot but it is all over the place in terms of the design.
