Marazzo it is for me. Seems a very competent MPV from Mahindra stable to fill in the gap between Ertiga and Innova. A good product for people wanting a bigger engine than Ertiga and the space and luxury of an Innova well within a good price range. Recent 4 star crash test rating adds more value to the product, at least for me.

Nexon is a 2017 launch. It was included in the 2017 Car of the Year poll.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

I voted for Santro.

Reason - For quite a sometime, a new model was essentially required in the market. The existing models in the same segment are a bit dated now, a refreshment in this space was warranted.

Hyundai did the perfect thing to bring back the 'Santro' in this new avatar. For a first car buyer, Santro will surely be considered before zeroing in for a particular model.

Can we have the option of none most of the cars seem to be too "normal" to deserve the prestigious title of COTY from us enthusiast! If freestyle was in the list, would surely vote for it!

Edit: Voted for Marazzo, finally something that can actually carry 7 people and is decently affordable. Looks great, decent engine, mid version looks like good VFM, so why not!

So have Swift, Amaze, Ertiga, etc. They ve been launched ages ago!

Minor facelifts here and there don't count as a launch.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

My winner- Mahindra Marazzo.
  • Hyundai Santro- Maybe 3rd.
  • Maruti Swift- I think Maruti played it too safe
  • Honda Amaze- 2nd. This car is what the previous Amaze should have been
  • Maruti Ertiga- Again, MSIL played it too safe
  • Mahindra Marazzo- My winner. A well engineered product, although I feel Mahindra should have gone the monocoque construction way to reduce weight
  • Mahindra Alturas G4- Competing with the Fortuner isn't going to be easy
  • Mitsubishi Outlander- So do I have to travel 25 km to get this serviced?
  • Toyota Yaris and Honda CR-V are good cars. Both the brands seem to be competing on who prices the product absurdly.

Voted for Amaze. The car has everything going for it and the sales numbers do the justice.

Voted for the Lexus ES300H. Elegant design and great performance brings the battle to the germans. Though, the dealer network is wafer thin currently, but bringing in a large sedan with a hybrid powertrain shows that at least someone has'nt completely given up on the beautiful sedan-shapes. A competitive price tag (almost) also makes it a lucrative option in the sea of E classes LWB.
On my next consideration list too.

Kindly add Ford Freestyle to the list of contestants for the poll.
Ford freestyle should be added to the poll. It's a new car with a new engine and host of other pluses. Mods, please advise why Freestyle missed the poll.

I too would have liked to see Ford Freestyle in the poll. New engine, CUV styling, and a lot of new additional technologies like Active Rollover Protection, etc all at a mouth watering price point. It's very distinct from the Figo.

Deserves to be in this poll much more than Amaze etc.

Damn! This is a tough one.

Frankly, there is not a single car in this list that I would choose blindly for the coveted TeamBHP Car of the Year title. Sad to see the Tata JTP twins and Ford Freestyle being left out as they aren't really 'all-new' models.

Out of the available options, my pick would be the Volvo XC40, thanks to its amazing design, fit and finish, peppy diesel engine with smooth AT gearbox, and feature loaded package. The XC40 is surely one of the best packaged SUVs in its segment.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Voted for Marazzo ( though didn't quiet like the name ), all my reasons have already been well summed up by GTO and many others, after the launch of XUV this is the only car from Mahindra which gives good and positive vibes about itself . Amaze being the not so close second and Santro\Swift being the joint third on my list.

Toyota Yaris - automatic variants across the models, well knitted safety kits (7 airbags and all 4 disc brakes).
Yes, Pricing was not appropriate but still it is the car of the year for me just for the safety kits it has got.

I am also wondering why Tiago JTP and FreeStyle didn't make in to the list . Mods, can you please tell us why ? . With the available choices, my vote is for XC40.

My vote goes for Honda Amaze
- Best looking compact sedan in the segment
- Diesel automatic a segment first

Yaris would come second
- First car in segment to offer safety kit for even base variants
- Quirky styking and high price made it come second
