re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Voted for the shark, honestly nothing else excites me, for I look for practicality , comfort and ownership costs.

Amaze was up there but looks and NVH killed it.

Mahindra has done a honest effort, if only they had an AT,it would have been hands down Marazzo, hopefully they launch one in the future.

Voted for the Marazzo, might have considered JTPs.

Though I am yet to test drive one, the Marazzo is new platform and new model as well as a bold move from the manufacturer.

But with the new Ertiga launched, I doubt the success of it.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Four cars stand out for me

Santro - for the quality, fit & finesse at the price point and also the nicely tuned AMT (electric actuators helping it to emulate conventional ATs)

Marazzo - for it's positioning and quality (by Mahindra standards) and more importantly 4 stars in GNCAP

Yaris - for it's focus on safety with 7 airbags being standard and CVT options across variants but the P-R-I-C-I-N-G??? OMG the VX CVT in Chennai costs 17 lacs, on par with Verna SX(O) CRDi AT (so does the City ZX CVT). No wonder Toyota didn't bring a diesel option.

Alturas G4 - a worthy competitor for the Endeavour & Fortuner in terms of segment first features but the pricing isn't going in favour. 3 lacs is hardly enough to sway a Fortuner customer. One would lose out more than this during resale. Nevertheless a worthy option as a lateral upgrade ( Fortuner doesn't lose value, mind you)

Cars were shortlisted based on my potential to buy and own one. The Alturas isn't going to fall in my budget but as a lateral upgrade fan I see immense value.

My Choice - Marazzo for scoring 4 stars.

Marazzo is the most deserving in my opinion. Innova's too expensive and Ertiga's too small. Lodgy was unappealing. Marazzo ended the long wait for an attractive spacious MPV that is also VFM. Build quality has also improved.

As facelifts are also considered, Mahindra XUV 2018 should also be included.

Since I bought this car in May, was searching for it in the list

Oops my bad - just read the first post again and facelifts are not included

Sorry to say this, but not a single car in this year's line up excites me. Still better among the average is Mahindra Marazzo. Voted for it

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Voted for Mahindra Marazzo for its all round capabilities within a not too pricey budget(similar to the previous gen Innova).

Would like to see an M10 variant with 6 airbags, ESP and other safety features along with an AT (not AMT) .

My second choice would be Toyota Yaris for its 7 airbags right from the base variant, though pricey.

My vote goes to Marazzo for it being a good value for money proposition among the contenders here. But, if i have to vote with my own money to the car in the segment, my money will go to the Hexa (whichever variant fits my budget).

Voted for Marazzo. Car looks really good in person. It has potential to partially disrupt the Monopoly of Innova. Although it remains to be seen. Something lodgy and others couldn't do.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Unlike other years, there is no 'standout' car for the COTY award this year, at least in my opinion.
I would choose Amaze because looks aside, the car is priced and specced about right, made people notice that there are other players than Dzire in the compact sedan segment, revived the Amaze brand, and it brought back Honda from the point where it was slowly being relegated to a fringe player.

Surprised that the Marazzo is garnering so many votes. I can't really find a compelling reason for it to be so popular. Looks like I need to read the review again to check out why it's so popular or is it that Indians are moving to MUVs to move their big extend families.

Voted for the Yaris.

7 airbags standard.

CVT on each variant.

As for the other contenders, I would look at other products from the competition.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

I went for the XC40. Why?

1. Amazing looks. Trust me, I pass a couple of XC40s on my daily commute and the compact package + road presence + overall poise + the mini-Thor's Hammer looks amazing.
2. Some real competition to the eponymous X1
3. Checked out a real one at IGIA and it was amazing inside too (though compact)
4. Volvo cachet - We accidentally live in a Ultra High Net Income ('UHNI') enclave although we are not. Every villa has a Innova Crysta + Bimmer, Merc or a Ouudi, but no one has or will ever buy a Volvo. That itself is enough of a encouragement for us :-).

Just as an example about the eroding value of image, we have a cash-rich chump who uses his Octavia vRS with his septuagenarian driver twice a week to the local SPAR for grocery shopping. That is all the vRS is used for. Enuff said!

Cachet is what I (personally) look for.
