Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

It's really sad to see Maruti skip the Traction Control System in the AT of S-Cross as well as Brezza as provided in its other offerings. Although Hill Hold is provided, but Traction Control is missing.

Can't say much about Nexon but when compared to Brezza, it is anyday better. Legroom is much more than Brezza and so is the comfort. Rear seats as well as the front seats offer better comfort. Had the new model come in early 2016, I would have picked the S-Cross over Brezza.

Boot space is just 25 litres more than Brezza which is not much.
Practicality wise, that 25 liters of extra boot space is quite a bit. The medium size strollers can be easily arranged in lying down position but in Brezza, you need to remove parcel tray. It also swallows more luggage than Brezza.

A car like S cross which has good chassis and suspension just does not deserve an ancient 4-speeder.
Yes, I'll agree to this.

I have an idea for the next S-cross. 300ml 50hp two cylinder petrol. 3 speed AMT. Entire car can be operated with a phone. Only one color option, chrome. 75mm tyre width. Ex-showroom 25L. Very likely that they'll listen to me since what I said is very much what Maruti wants and the customer will buy in droves because "Maruti". Seriously, I'm done with this brand. Enough.

Maruti seriously needs a for the crappy feature distribution they have these days in their cars. Despite spending almost 12L on an XL6, I'm appalled to see Auto Dimming IRVM, puddle lamps and UV cut glasses missing, which are available in much cheaper Baleno.

If they continue with this attitude then no amount of cheesy launch events is going to save them once competition like Kia expand in other segments. They have no answer to Seltos/Creta yet, and the Brezza is no match for the upcoming Sonet.

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

Maruti seriously needs an overhaul now. S-Cross in short:

1. Dated interiors.
2. Orange backlighting on the AC dials are similar to the Wagon R and Alto series
3. Same steering wheel from erstwhile Swift
4. Same engine from Brezza. Not even a turbo charged petrol motor for the premium price it commands.
5. Dated auto box.
6. Option for AWD maybe in next version?

Hybrid Cars!

Off-topic post about the "Hybrid" tag

During my interaction with friends and family, many of them have been enamored by "Hybrid" car. Swayed by the ads and our Govt. policies which gave sops to 'hybrid' cars and news reports which say hybrids are the future of automobile. They are educated people, some of them are automobile enthusiasts too and yet they fall into the marketing traps laid out by the companies.

Case 1:
My grandfather was looking for an automatic car to replace his dolphin Honda City CVT. I suggested the Yaris, Altis and the Jazz. My uncle was quick to recommend the Ciaz (another good car too) only because it was a hybrid with latest technology.

Case 2:
When I was hunting for a car, another uncle suggested the Hector Hybrid because of the same reason and said that the car gives very good FE because of the hybrid technology!

Case 3:
A friend who is a Regional Sales manager with a leading OEM, recommended that I buy the S-Cross as it is a Hybrid car.

Even my father wanted me to look for hybrid cars available in my budget as that's the future! Especially the Ciaz and the S-Cross.

If we look at all the big volume Indian cars bought by a majority of our population (any car costing <20L today), how many of them are true "Hybrid"? How much advantage do these hybrid technologies provide in a day to day use, either from an environment point of view or a performance one? Are the OEMs taking us for ride with these fancy tags?

PS: IMO, cars like Prius and Camry are true hybrids but they are too expensive to be sold in mass market. Long ago, Honda had launched the Civic hybrid but that too didn't have many takers because of the price tag.

Off-topic, but I wouldn't be too surprised if such a car sells. No offence, but people were once wise-enough to splurge 7 lakhs on a 2-cylinder Celerio diesel, that had the NVH package of a commerical truck.

My dear sir. Point 5 and 6 are automotive technology and related to performance. Gearbox, maybe someday in the distance future. Maruti will never do AWD ever again. Grand Vitara, despite being an amazing vehicle, never sold at all . Majority wants bad vehicles. I'd say let them have it. We consumers are the ones to blame. We let Indian manufacturers get away with substandard products while the government ensures that we don't get anything nice from overseas.

The reclining rear seat feature which was available in 2015 model and removed in the 2017 facelift is back, so the boot space in upright position is 375 litres and 353 litres in reclined mode which further adds to the practicality of this car but sadly its available only in top two variants.

The reclining feature was never removed AFAIK. It was made possible only because of a two step seat lock mechanism.

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

As much as I am disappointed with the features and pricing, I think this will sell more than the older ones. People who want something more than the CSUVs and doesn't want to spend much will choose this. The SCross has the Maruti reliability, build quality of a European car, decent enough petrol engine (even though with that 5 speed MT and 4 speed AT), a bit more space and decently kitted for 11.15 Lakh Ex-showroom. I can see many people moving up from Ecosport top end and coming down from Creta/ Seltos base. IMHO.

They could have at least given a 6 speed MT.

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

Every car has its pluses and minuses. The only minus I see with S-Cross is a 4-speed AT. Other than that, it has got most everything right. I'm sure rear seat space is more than Korean rivals. And, being a crossover, it probably has less body-roll than SUVs, too. The first gen was plain ugly but this one is a looker. And, as many have said, it feels more European than Japanese. It will also be a couple of lakhs cheaper than Creta/Seltos petrol CVTs. Sure, it may not have some features of the duo but those who can live without some features get to save good amount upfront. And the hybrid system, however basic, should add at least 2-3 KMs to FE nos. A plus in these days of ever-increasing fuel prices.

Had a good look at the S Cross. I was eager to see it ASAP since this is one car which remained on my radar forever and I wished to see if I missed anything crucial by opting for the XL6.

I wonder what did Maruti achieve after delaying this by over 2 years. If they had to launch S-Cross and Brezza with the 1.5L Petrol, it's sheer stupidity to have delayed it so long and in a way, pushed S-Cross into oblivion.. It was as if Maruti was going to give us the 1.4L Turbo with All-Grip. Crazy.

Compared to XL6, yes but not the diesel S-Cross which had the normal halogen fog lamps.

It's there in my brother's car also. So much so that it appears as if it'll open up or hasn't been closed properly.

Well, S-Cross and Maruti continues to disappoint, I am glad I bought its share 4 months back. It has jumped nearly 60% in 4 months
So my takeaway is invest in Maruti share, forget its cars

Off-topic post alert.

As a owner of new Ertiga, I can say confidently that the hybrid tech works. In certain cases like climbing inclines or pressing throttle hard, you can feel that there is additional torque going to the wheels. Think of it as if you are a kid riding a cycle uphill with your friend sitting behind and he pushes it momentarily with his legs. Of course, this torque assist doesn't last more than 10-15 seconds and anyone expecting a bump in mileage would be disappointed. Still, I feel that in certain high load conditions, it gives the car a good mid-range torque to pull. I've driven the Ertiga with all rows occupied and loads of luggage and it has assisted engine during overtakes or climbing flyovers.
