I spotted one on the way to Peenya today, though it was only for a second as I was driving in the opposite direction. Could immediately identify it as the Gravitas because of those DRLs and the size of the car.

A couple of Gravitas test mules were parked in my society. Can notice Harrier's alloy wheels. Side profile reminds me of Safari.

Too much of a delay dilutes interest.

Atleast a launch now would bring them some good festive bookings.

They could do a thar here by launching and taking bookings, by giving out delivery dates later on.

Few months more and the next gen XUV500 will be here, which will probably be the most desirable 5+2 seater SUV at this price point (level 1 autonomous, AWD, panoramic sunroof, rear independent suspension, probably sliding/reclinable rear seats etc). I will pay 5 lakh more for such car over Gravitas (from what I know about gravitas)

What product will most of the Indians choose?

An extended Harrier(which has had a very modest success in our market) with maybe a few additional features(and perhaps a normal sunroof compared to a panoramic one on the Harrier) or the next gen XUV 500 which is an already established product? Going by the spy-shots, the next gen XUV should have a more palatable interior and we already know that it will have both diesel and petrol power-trains available right from the launch.

The more this product gets delayed, the lesser its chances of success. To be honest, in either case, unless Mahindra goofs up big time, I don't see Gravitas becoming a success, not even Harrier level success. The best thing that TATA can do is launch it as soon as possible(without compromising on QC) so that at least they can have that early mover's advantage since it is highly likely that its sales will plummet post the launch of the XUV 500. An early launch might ensure that at the very least, it will be saved from the Dead on Arrival(DOA) tag.

I fail to understand after two unveils on a car that is mostly building on the Harrier and a year what is stopping them from taking the product to market. The mules do not show any major progress(AWD or sunroof) so its not as if they have used this time to good effect. This seems to be going back to TML's policy of too little too late. Even what little buzz is there has died down.

I think the delay is because of the price dilemma. If they price it too high its dead on arrival and if they price it well it will eat into Harrier sales. One big confused product this.

Our friendly neighbourhood Autospy caught up with the Gravitas test mule on the streets of Pune early in the morning today.

According to him, the Gravitas has the street presence equivalent to a Fortuner/Endeavour. Also, the engine under the hood was quite vocal, in a sweet way. Not sure if the Kyrotec has been retuned to pull the additional weight of the 7-seater.
