Can we use regular petrol for 1.3L turbo petrol engine which is expected on Astor? In one of the ZST reviews it is mentioned that 95 RON is the recommended fuel grade.

I know this engine(if launched) will be new for our country but we have other modern turbo petrols in sale today. Does turbo petrol engines from other mass market manufacturers also require 95 RON grade?

MG Astor engine options revealed,

Quote:
Astor will have no diesel powertrain. Pinning hopes on petrol, Astor will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engines.

Astor’s 1.3L engine which will be paired with an automatic transmission puts out a segment-leading output figure of 163 hp and 230 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5L, on the other hand, will come with the option of manual and CVT gearbox choices and will generate 120 hp and 150 Nm.

The 1.3-litre Astor is expected to come in range-topping Sharp and Savvy trims while Super and Smart will be offered with the 1.5-litre variant.

MG Astor will feature JioSaavn app to stream music / videos, seen installed on the cars' infotainment system, i-Smart next-gen accessed through 10.1 inches display-screen, which can also communicate with the owners' mobile phone.

It will allow customers to personalize their set of services. MG car owners will also get access to music on the JioSaavn app along with the industry-first feature of reserving a parking slot through a head unit (powered by Park+ - select cities to begin with) in the car.

The price of MG ZS-T in Australia is 24k to 31k Australian Dollars, which roughly translates to 13 lakh to 17 lakh INR.
This pricing for MG ZS-T is closer to Hyundai Venue in Australia which sells exactly for 24k-31k Australian Dollars.
If MG can match the Venue pricing in India or even goes a lakh or so Rupees more than Venue, MG is likely to have winner on their hands.

Australia doesn't have sub-4m rules.

Even if MG targets a similar ex-factory price, Venue gets away with 29% tax whereas the Astor will have 49% GST + resulting increase in road tax, insurance etc.

MG should ideally target 2 lakhs lesser than the top-end prices of Germans and Koreans IMHO.

Wishful thinking! But for a car with the most powerful turbo petrol in the segment, that measures the same dimensions as the rivals and has more features on offer, it wouldn't be logical to expect such a price. Realistically, I'm expecting the pricing to marginally undercut Creta but hey, if your words do come true, I'll be the happiest.

A car larger than Creta in dimensions, having features much more than Creta, with an engine more powerful than Creta, should be priced below Venue.... Ain't it Christmas!

Can you explain the basis of your statement?
Astor is coming up with segment-first features, is dimensionally similar or bigger than the rivals, performance (on paper) seems at par or better than competition, the interiors also seem best-in-class. The Astor seems to be the most well-rounded product in this segment and does not feel cheap at least from whatever pictures we have seen. I feel any prospective customer should be happy if they undercut the competition by a little (50K-75K) while providing an overall good package combining safety, performance, quality and features.

If dimensions and fancy specification on paper are the only things that matter, then Vivo, PoCo, Real, Mi smartphones should be priced more than iPhones.

The easiest way for a new player to capture some market share is to undercut the existing leader.

Relax guys! There is no agenda at play against the newcomer! I'm just personally confident that MG will go for market disruptor pricing. It is high time someone "did a Hyundai" to the now overpriced Korean duo.

The basis of my expectation - is the simple reasoning that MG will want to position the Astor below their own much-larger Hector. And Hector is already priced very well! Compare the below prices against those of Safari, Alcazar etc -

MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled-screenshot-20210913-8.18.14-pm.png

Hector 1.5 Turbo with 48V Hybrid System, panoramic sunroof etc is priced at 17.75 for the manual. Hyundai (doesn't really have a top-end manual - so just approximation) and Kia have their top-end manuals priced at ~16.75 lakhs. By positioning the Astor below the Hector, they will easily undercut the Koreans. Forget the Germans!

I'm expecting the non-ADAS (no rivals for the ADAS variants) top-end variant to undercut the others by 2L. And the segment should be in for a real challenger finally, something the 'hustle' from the 'King' couldn't manage! All the best to Rajeev Chaba and team!

And on another note - I expect the 15th September event will just be an unveil. MG guys would want to make sure the price is revealed soon after VW reveals theirs, so as to avoid any (unlikely) last minute surprises. If VW successfully overprices it above and beyond the Skoda - this will help MG with their marketing too!

Sorry brother, but this looks like someone trying to bully the new kid on the block. Does not matter if he offers a better product or a better experience, the bullies are forcing him/her into submission by lowering the price just because he is new!

I would be happy if MG brings another price disruption like xuv700, but I feel it does not make sense to think that lowering the price is the only way to compete. There is already a Maruti for that

Wow, that sounds like a stonking engine! For me this is the most exciting launch of the year, depending on the pricing. And the 1.5 sounds fine for a car of this size, for less manic driving. Can’t wait to see the full specs. Tfs

Companies and brands donít operate this way else every manufacturer would have priced lower. No company wants to end up in red.

Market dynamics has changed a lot. MG is operating the way a start up operates which has got really deep pockets. They are actively listening to customer feedback. Being agile in the way they are addressing those feedback. Looks at the constant variants they have got over last 6 months across portfolio.

Currently they are investing in establishing the market. Now their strategy and operations team would have studied market and charted the path
ahead.

They have been disrupters in market and have tasted some success why not continue same formulae.

Astor is smaller car than hector and they just canít step over each other.

As earlier post pointed out MG will play this very smartly with ADAS and Non ADAS options. So there is a price point for everyone.

One more challenge for them is to overcome current sentiment against the parent company. What is the best way to make ppl visit showroom? Pricing.

If a manufacturer has to survive they need to compete.

XUV700 has the bells ringing of every player in the segment and other players will respond accordingly.

As a customer I am smiling as there are more options available based on preference and criteria.

Starting prices are aggressive and silently keep pushing it north as they gain traction.

MG is free to play the game it sees fit. They can even compete against the big 3 Germans for all I care calling it a X1/Q3/GLA competitor.

Question is will the aam junta pay what they ask for. What we are telling is that showing value against Creta/Kushaq and the likes would get them more sales. Unless they have some real USP hidden, lower pricing is the way to get market from the leader.

Guys! This has been discussed in this group already quite a few times, but just a quick reminder - Please don't forget that this is a 3 cylinder 1.3 ltr engine and not a standard larger 4 cylinder engine that you get in competing cars in 17 to 20 Lakhs price range.

Hence, pricing Astor at slightly lower price compared to competition, with all the segment first features will be the only reason for many to ignore this small sized engine.

This 1.3 litre is THE reason to buy the Astor. It's not just a 1.3 but a turbocharged engine. In fact, it puts out a segment-leading output figure of 163 hp and 230 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5L, on the other hand, is the naturally aspirated engine that will generate 120 hp and 150 Nm.
