Hi - I have heard from my sources in MG that the car is getting previewed by the end of this month and price will be announced sometime next month.

The car will be loaded with the a lot of features.

The Astor is the petrol version of the MG Zs Ev with the following going for it in the looks department:

Body shape and size: Similar to Creta, the segment leader
Front: Aston Martin-esque shaped air dam, with some bling similar Merc A/B Class
Headlights: New Merc/Mustang style
Rear: Again kinda inspired from Hyundai family

Interiors seem to be well thought of and on par with VW in quality (solely from appearance).

Overall, I feel they've taken the best aspects from the best sellers in the segment and, with good engine options and ADAS, should be a fantastic option.

With some competitive pricing, it might bring some heat to the Koreans who continue to rule the roost for now.

Also, if launched around the same time as Taigun, the SUVW will have a hard time bring in the numbers.

Nationalistic sentiments aside, MG has a lot going for it, including good A.S.S. and reasonable service costs. No dearth of feel good features either. The ADAS will be a great marketing as well as practical point.

At a similar, if not lower price than the VW/Skoda twins, the Astor seems to offer a better overall package and might thus eat into whatever limited sales the VW twins expected to enjoy.

I don't know how will this evolve over time but right now, let the car be a car and don't make it a house+bank+theatre+spa......so much of this won't add to the driving experience whilst adding tons of cost.

Seems like on 18th August MG will showcase tech to be used in Astor. Hence, we may get a glimpse of Astor as well before it's launch next month.

On 18th we will also get XUV 700 initial reviews. It will be jam packed day.

Rushlane article says 2 engine option
1.5L 4 cylinder NA and 1.3L Turbo options.

Will the tech reveal an 18th have details of engine and other specs or just something on CAAP and AI inside?

Somehow I completely missed the MG Astor. Looks like MG has a huge winner on its hands.

I was hoping VW/Skoda to disrupt the compact/midsize SUV market and cause a dent to the domination by the Korean twins mainly due to 2 reasons - (1) safety (2) more competition is always better for customers.

Now that the VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq have been revealed, I have to say that both are big disappointments to put it mildly. Though the Kushaq or Taigun might be better on safety (to be proven), offer good performance (similar to the Koreans honestly, not a big differntiator), the fact remains that both these cars reek of cost-cutting and compromises on so many fronts that an owner will always have that lingering feeling of disappointment after spending 20+ lakhs.

In this price bracket, is it unreasonable to expect a car with good safety, performance, features and quality interiors? I don't think so.

And this is where MG seems to have got everything right -

• The car looks great and has good proportions and road presence, compared to the segment. Honestly, it looks the best in the segment by far.
• The interiors look best-in-class
• Knowing MG, the car would have great features. I hope they provide the ventilated seats which are not available in the ZS EV.
• Knowing MG, the car would be competitively priced.

I am little skeptical on the engine and gearbox performance. The numbers look fine but we need to wait for the test drive reports. I also hope MG published crash safety rating of this car. If MG can take care of the performance and safety aspects, this should set the sales charts on fire !!

And, we have to give it to MG the way they have entered the India market and churning value-for-money products in such a rapid succession. They surely mean business and is a force to reckon with in the future (such a shame that other global brands like Honda, Toyota, Ford, Fiat etc. never gave Indian market the attention it needs)

Looks like MG has done what Nio has in China. The new Astor (ZS Petrol) will get a virtual assistant sat on top of dashboard which moves and shows animations. A cool trick apart from them gathering all our speech data and sending to... You know what.
EDIT: Data will be stored on Microsoft cloud services. L&T Technology Services also providing security auditing.

The upcoming MG Astor will get a personal AI assistant and will respond to voice commands.



MG has teased the interior of the Astor with dual-tone colors and of course, the personal AI assistant.





The Astor will also come with Level 2 ADAS powered by AI. The automaker has partnered with Bosch Global to enable the same.



The Level 2 ADAS on the Astor will bring safety features like:

MG Astor's personal AI assistant has been built with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU).

- Lane Departure Prevention
- Lane Keep Assist

It also gets a Speed Assist System that will alert you of the legal road speed limit by reading the speed signs.





The Astor will come with an updated i-Smart hub infotainment system. MG has also partnered with reliance jio for fast 4G connectivity with an e-SIM.





MG India has also partnered with Map my India to bring in-built navigation on the upcoming Astor.

1. ADAS Level 2 achiever with the help of ESP, mid-range radar and cameras (Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, speed limit assist, intelligent high beam control, etc)
2. AI powered digital assistant (separate pod which turns and talks to the driver)
3. Panoramic sunroof
4. A full length digital cockpit etc.
