Now Diesel crosses the Rs 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai, 4 months after petrol hit the century.

In a span of nine days, from October 1-9, a diesel-litre has become costlier by Rs 2.45 a litre in Mumbai, by Rs 2.30 in Delhi, by Rs 2.19 in Chennai and by Rs 2.31 in Kolkata.

I wonder what's the purpose of this thread when the not a single state government wants to move fuel under GST for loss of revenue.

The Governments are unable to reduce expenditure on administration & passing on the same to hapless citizens including those who avail benefits. On other hand, few people are eligible for government benefits for even 1 day stint in public office & at times multiple payouts for certain people who have held different public posts.

Funny how people blame states for fuel price but not the center that took excise duty on fuel from Rs.9.48 per litre in 2014 to Rs.32.90 per litre in 2021 to make moolah as barrel rates dropped to a third of what it was in 2014.

That's an 8-month old article, dated Feb 2021. Have the states still not received their share till Nov 2020 or later? Hopefully they have.

Petrol/Diesel prices hiked for the 6th consecutive day:

#Delhi: Petrol at Rs 104.14, diesel at Rs 92.82

#Mumbai: Petrol at Rs 110.12, diesel at Rs 100.66

#Chennai: Petrol at Rs 101.53, diesel at Rs 97.26

#Kolkata: Petrol at Rs 104.80, diesel at Rs 95.93

Petrol, diesel prices raised again today. This is the 14th time that petrol price has been hiked in two weeks, while diesel rates have gone up on 17 times in three weeks.


Now diesel hits a century in a dozen states.

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka and Leh.

Both petrol and diesel prices raised by 35 paise in Delhi to Rs 105.14 and Rs 93.87 respectively. In Mumbai, diesel prices jumped to Rs 101.78 from Rs 101.40 while petrol prices hiked by 34 paise to Rs 111.09 in the financial capital of India.

- In Delhi, petrol and diesel prices are now ₹105.84 per liter and ₹94.57/l

-In Mumbai, petrol prices are nowo ₹111.77 while the cost of diesel is ₹102.52.

- In West Bengal's Kolkata Petrol and diesel have been priced at ₹106.43 per litre and ₹97.68 per litre respectively

- In Chennai, petrol and diesel cost ₹103.01 per litre and ₹98.92 per litre respectively.

I filled at 102/ liter for diesel at Vizag yesterday. Unbelievable times. Many advised me against diesel stating that for 1000-1200 km a month petrol is sufficient back in 2019.

Thankfully I went in for diesel at least the FE is reasonable unlike the government

As per Yashwant Sinha, in 2014 Rs.75,000cr. of fuel taxes were collected compared to the current year's Rs.3,50,000cr. I don't how this loot can be stopped and the government gives all excuses such as oil bonds, etc. when pretty well it has been established that they are just 3% of what has been collected as fuel taxes till now.

I believe this is now not just an issue related to automotive or petrol heads like us but the reduction in subsidies of LPG cylinders and hike in LPG prices is hitting the common as well as the poor man. All this in a time when people have lost their jobs, their salaries have been cut and everything has become expensive now including vegetables and regular groceries.

The government is in no mood to cut the taxes to reduce prices. In fact, my guesstimate is, they will take Diesel much above 110 to shatter the psychological 100 number and likely settle it around the 120 mark (similar % increase for petrol). This way, people will stop expecting (can be called a dream also) it to come under 100 any time soon.

A 100/500 rs in the pocket could do wonders not too long ago. Now:
500 is the new 100
2000 is the new 500
