I can say that it is not the case at least with me. I am, in general against cramming of unnecessary electronics into vehicles, be it from any brand. Even for people who carry that bias I am sure it is not without reason. Having said that, let’s not carry this further and derail the thread

Reliability is an aspect that can be gauged only with time and we’ll wait to see how it performs. Till then it will remain a “cause for concern” for me nevertheless.

Fact that most of us who are engaged on this thread are potentially considering this car as our next upgrade means we are obviously supporting. All these discussions (if someone from Mahindra is reading this thread) would only help them to perfect their products.
Would we be equally concerned if it was some other car maker? It depends on how flawless their products work.
Couple years back I had requested for the XUV500 for a test drive. I wanted to take a peek at the engine bay at the beginning of the test drive but the person who got it informed me that it can't be opened due to some technical issue. Now I scrutinize their cars with certain perception I have developed after that incident.
I have decided to pre-book the car but can't help keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, I do trust electronics which is designed with proper specifications and operated within those conditions. However, in the Indian context, the electronics may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, pollution and abuse, and regular electronics may not be able to cope up with even if they come from other makes. A urban BMW driver is unlikely to treat/use his vehicle in same way a Mahindra driver does in a underdeveloped town. Most of us expect Mahindra/Tata vehicles to be rugged and rural friendly.

Another key difference - most of the mechanics in authorized service centers of Mahindra are all hardwired (in brains) to handle mechanicals or vehicle parts in a rough way. I have seen every Mahindra technician and mechanic spoiling the interiors and upholstery, scratches on body and plastics, rough handling of electromechanical/electrical/electronic parts - be those the electrical motors/actuators, switches, lights, speakers, ICE, glass or rubber parts, anything. There are no Electronics Specialists who can handle delicate things in a delicate way at the workshops, which are themselves so dusty.

Many of us love jugaad, even I do. And I guess some automotive engineers do it too. I have seen many cases, including in my XUV500/2011-W6, most switches and sensors malfunction in rains, splash or wash. Occasionally condensation due to climate extremes or just plain high humidity also make warning lamps glow. Did they use substandard connectors, switches, cases, cables, or those are not with proper specs to withstand operational and repair conditions? I addressed some with Jugaad over last 5 years, but I dont want to take risks with anything especially under the bonnet.

Road conditions, even in MMR region are such that drivers of many cars are forced to drive vehicles through deep puddles, flooded streets and mud. If not the electronics first, the protective covers give up in harsh weather and then the electronics. So designs and specifications are important too.

Although I am a tech savvy person myself, a hands-on electronics engineer, I got a good idea of the learning curves of mechanics (which is far from our telecom or IT engineers, even the kitchen/home appliance repair guys). I prefer a car which is not overdependent on electronics. I still prefer knobs and switches with tactile or physical feel over touch screen based in a car. I still want the basics in my car to be very reliable or atleast have a traditional backup if there is too much electronics. For example, a backup mechanical key and handle to get entry into the vehicle in case this funky door handle fails or damaged due to any cause. As a last resort even if it via the boot!

So is this the lower version without the ADAS cameras?

Surprised to see the same logo, as there were so many rumors about the new logo.

Probably they don't want to take chance and keep it a secret till the launch. Test mules must be deliberately fixed with the old logos.

It is ironic to me that in the whole incident, the main content that is being highlighted is the brown/maroon color and not that a biker has been hit. On a much serious note, incident of this nature makes me wonder under what conditions did the accident take place. Were they testing the ADAS system on the poor biker? Was it a fault of the Driver himself or a malfunction of any other component? After the recent 'lifted bonnet' incident, I don't believe an accident is the way to go forward in marketing a vehicle, Mahindra. Anyways, I hope the biker is okay.

I agree with @Guna completely. It's not that it is Mahindra or Tata that we get worried about niggles. Lemons, however sour they may be, exist with every brand. What a lot of members offer through this thread is their most honest opinion on how they would like Mahindra to give a competent product, as most of us are invested in it. I believe that constructive criticism should be offered to what we hold dear to us. A lot of us have been Mahindra vehicle users for a long time, and some of us are looking for an upgrade. The others may be new to Mahindra and they are looking at their first ever Mahindra purchase. Lemons exist in Hyundai as they do in Maruti Suzuki and Jeep, but we would want to address Mahindra's first because those ones, are what members on this thread, genuinely care about.

I was wondering the same till I went through the previous pictures on this thread. In one of the recent pictures, you can see an 'X' logo on the steering wheel of the spied vehicle. My guess would be that the new logo they have been talking about is not a new Mahindra logo, but a logo for the XUV range to differentiate the vehicle lineup.

Usually logos are one of the last items to hit the production line, largely to keep it a secret. So the tooling for these plastic items are typically one of the last, and are never reviewed in meetings where other component Engineers would have to answer the top management about delays in meeting the build start date! Such an envious position

AutoCar India lists expected price.
Do they have some sort of insider info or taking a wild guess as us folks?

Current XUV500 costs from 14L to 20L ex showroom (Bangalore). I don't think the estimation of 12-20L is realistic. Wild guess but not a good one IMHO

I am expecting a premium of minimum 1 lakh over the existing variant.

The starting price could be kept at around Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom to rival the Safari.

I came across this video today of the same incident, albeit from a different angle. You can see the environment heated up in arguments and I believe the rider was fine as well.

Posting the video link:

Note: The Ground clearance seems too low or maybe the video angle is too steep. In any case, I hope it maintains the current XUV5OO GC and doesn't go any lower for the sake of easy ingress/egress.

The suspension has probably been compressed to it's lowest travel point due to load.
The vehicle could have been loaded heavily on the rear axle.

Wonder what are folks at Autocar smoking nowadays. Even the base Marazzo which sans even a basic music system starts at 12.6 Lakh ex-showroom. I don't know how high the XUV700 will go but i will be surprised if XUV 700 starts anything less than 17 lakh ex-showroom.
