FY22 means Financial Year starting 01 April 2021. This means launch is near, which confirms with the shop floor image with 31 days count down. I believe like all launched here, it too will be a soft launch followed by test rides in cameod vehicles, another event for the price launch & final product launch in September (around Ganesh Chaturthi in my opinion).

Re the booster headlights, the more I read about, the more I feel Mahindra wanted it to KISS (Keep It Simple AND Stupid). They could have just not cared about this feature as the Night M-Eagles/Hawks would only cause trouble to oncoming traffic.

Just for fun not to hurt prospective owners, Mahindra boosting about Booster head lights, wheras my reaction on thinking, can't I turn the high beam on when required

I think its an even brighter beam function and not just high beam, which activates beyond the 80 km/hr mark only.

I will go ahead and give applause to Mahindra to bring 'Economically viable' bling features. Well thought. Same way like the static corner lamp as opposed to forming motors in headlamps that bend on sensing vehicle turns and all. India can't afford such complex mechanisms yet. I'd just wish there's something to take down high beam on detecting oncoming traffic too.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

The guideline in India.

High beam shall be dipped in good time on the approach of an oncoming vehicle or when driving close behind another vehicle. (yes this is all in black and white, not many follows it)

I guess some mechanism will be there to comply to this if the vehicle is switching on the high beam on its own, or it could be the high beam in itself changes the beam pattern as the speed increases, cant find anything wrong with either of it though. In any case you can always dip the beam using the stalks.

Many owners never toggle the auto headlamp function, if it comes switched on from the showroom, its likely left as is till the car gets sold. It helps owners comply with another guideline - that is to turn on dipped beams as the car enters a tunnel.

I think Mahindra will keep selling current gen XUV500 till they can fill the gap with a latest model ( say a 5 seater Creta/Harrier competitor ).It makes businesses sense if you can push the product a bit more and get as much sales as possible. It will also justify naming convention (500 - 5 seater, 700 - 7 seater )

If they are going to price it a premium and need time to ramp up production, why not drop the 3rd row seats (and 1-1.5 lakh on price) on the current XUV500 and start taking some business away from Creta/Seltos? Honda does it with the 4/5 gen City. Provided if they have excess production capacity.

Honestly, I don't know what this is about? If some German brand or a Korean brand launches some new features, people go berserk over them saying - "woah, woh car me america ka features hai" , but if it's our homegrown brands, there's so much criticism even before the launch. We all know Mahindra haven't been fool proof, but atleast wait for the launch and we'll see how it works out. But yeah, the launch is getting delayed a lot. Excited to see this car!

Mahindra XUV700 provides largest in segment Sunroof, and calls it SkyRoof.

The dimensions of the XUV700 (UV2 segment) sunroof are 1360mm X 870mm.

Mahindra is all set to reveal more first in segment technology features of XUV700 in coming days.

As of now, Mahindra is offering discounts upto 2 lakhs on XUV500, without dropping the third row. Since they are offering the discount on the current gen, it's nothing more than them clearing out their stocks to make room for the upcoming XUV.(I was offered 2 lakhs in discounts + some free accessories if I booked the W11(O).)

Additonally, Mahindra cannot pull a Honda here, as first, the demand of XUV500 is not as much as say Scorpio which consistently pulls Mahindra's numbers in UV segment, in a positive direction every month. Secondly, they lack the scale of production to produce XUV500 once XUV700 comes into picture(one of the reason for such long waiting periods for Thar).

On a different topic, I would state that various members on this thread, are either potential customers of the XUV700 or are Mahindra loyalists and as such, do our part of the constructive criticism so that indigenous brands such as Mahindra know where they're doing good and where they can improve. We offer our two cents from our experiences and our expectations for future purchases, so that the knowledge can be shared between everyone.

I wasn't referring to discounts. More of a regular model to milk the market for what it's worth - not much R&D and service is needed and it can bring people into the showrooms. Sort of like Harrier, but priced in Creta/Seltos range because they probably have already recouped their R&D money by now. May be for a year or two, at least until COVID impact on supply chains is sorted out and the new Scorpio is ready to be brought in.

Your point about lack of scale is right. Perhaps they don't have capacity and whatever high-end production capacity they had going on for XUV500 is being used by XUV700 now.

That's interesting. I'm curious, what are the dimensions of the sunroof on the Harrier / Hector and all? Is it that much larger than them to advertise it to appear like a convertible!?

In most of the cars, the panoramic sunroof extends till the 2nd row headrests but in XUV700 it seems go past the headrests by good 1 foot.

Sunroof mechanism often mess with the headroom for those sitting on either side , hope the roof is tall enough in new XUV for passengers to see the sky without tilting their head sideways. That would be very important for the convertible feel.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Hello bhpians.

Here's some latest info on the XUV700.

1. First and foremost, the SOP of the XUV is scheduled to begin by 3rd or 4th week of July and Mahindra plans to either launch or showcase the vehicle on their founder's day I.e. 2nd October.

2. Once again my sources are bragging about the refinement of the diesel mill in the XUV which they say ( with a pinch of salt ofcourse) is same as modern day small capacity Merc diesels.

3. The platform of the all new XUV is hybrid and electric ready but it will launch only with pure IC engines. Hybrid is likely with facelift which will arrive sometime in 2025.

4. Fully electric version of the XUV will most likely come when the next generation arrives which Mahindra plans to launch before 2030. Also Mahindra may ditch the diesel engine from the XUV lineup next generation onwards.

5. Launch of XUV900 is likely to take place along with the facelift of XUV700. So likely timeline is sometime in 2025.

6. Regarding the headlamp booster function, my sources are saying that this feature only increases the intensity of the low beam once you cross 80 kmph. I am not sure how much of this is actually going to be helpful in daily driving conditions. Bhpians can share their opinions.

7. As Mahindra has already highlighted the biggest panoramic sunroof in the segment, my sources say that the sunroof is so big and stretches so far back that even 3rd row occupants can enjoy a view out from it.

Now going slightly off topic.

The board which read as "31 days to go" is correct and it indeed is placed inside the Chakan plant. Now having such a board achieves following things

1. Such a board is usually placed near attendance punching machine or the main exit door of the plant so that all the employees as well as people from suppliers get to see it on their way out.

2. What this does is it boosts the morale of the people working in the plant and helps them gear up for an exciting product launch.

3. What it also does is it constantly keeps the pressure on all the departments in the plant by reminding them that they have to sort out all the niggles and issues which are a part of preproduction vehicles and they have to get their act together to make sure that absolutely niggle free vehicles are produced once the SOP day arrives.
