I'm very happy to see at least some brands which are pricing their cars sensibly. I'm so angry at Jeep right now for their arrogant pricing of the new Compass that I'm literally imagining Mahindra slapping them. Even with all the features and goodies, the price of top end XUV700 looks to undercut the price the model S of Compass by a huge margin.
I agree completely. Even if these are introductory prices, it goes to show how some cars are exorbitantly priced, including Hyundais and Jeep. Just look at what Hyundai has done with the Alcazar launch. Basically, they extended a Creta, which is not really in the Harrier/Compass segment, and it is pitched against the likes of Safari.

In addition, I feel that domestic manufacturers need to offer value to the Indian customers. Hope Tata follows suit with price corrections/discounts for current products and future launches.

Tailgate means the rear hatch, fender is an entirely different thing. Since it was mentioned that the 'tailgate' is made of plastic, it sounds stupid on part of Mahindra if it actually is or the poster of that snap on Instagram who doesn't understand a thing about it and is reviewing a car.

This photo posted by timesofindia.auto on Instagram shows the boot space on offer with a small bag. Seems to be relatively usable, certainly more than the Safari.

An electric tailgate seems to have been given a miss.

Re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I see that there is a lot of talk on the forum and outside about the pricing. While majority are stunned and overjoyed with the pricing, a few are understandably skeptical given that these are introductory and the fact that prices of the top variants are still unrevealed.

With base model at 12 lacs, I feel top of the line variant with all the bells and whistles(and what not) would be another 10 lacs dearer or thereabouts. Meaning, it should cost around 22-23 lacs. That's not bad considering that it is pretty much in line with the expectations of majority(23%) on the forum, assuming the poll prices are all ex-showroom. Even if Mahindra decide to jack up the prices big-time(1-2 lacs from base to top variants) which eventually they will, it should still be well within the expectations, no?

I had been waiting for this and pricing definitely looks good. But the styling of the logo OMG looks very poor : ( - Dont folks feel like the car looks like a butler with a bow-tie in the shirt. As in changing logos is a watershed moment in branding and I think Mahindra screwed it up.

About Mahindra XUV700's massive dual screens

Love the Mahindra XUV700's massive cool glass screen? It's topped by dragon tail tough glass from Asahi and mounted on a magnesium subframe (unit in the center) to stay straight and true. A lot of thermal engineering behind it to make sure it stays cool.

Dashcam recording feature in XUV700

A hidden gem in the massive list - and I don't know why - is a dashcam recorder. Not like Tesla's sentry mode but insert a card & it will save about 11 hrs of footage when the car is on. I'm calling it Dynamic Sentry Mode.

Thumbs up for video surveillance/recording
Looks like ventilated seats are part of package, we can see a new option called ventilation in the settings.

The seats don't look as good as the outgoing generation (XUV500). Underthigh support too has been reduced. Doesn't have the firmness, and the finish is not uniform. The headrests look cheapish compared to XUV500.... and a fixed headrest for the middle passenger in the second row..

The seats look like lifted from Hector/Safari than an evolution from XUV500. Soft seats with 200 PS power....

200 PS power in a mass market non-luxury brand car is truly a watershed moment in the Indian automotive scene. I wouldn't want that experience get diluted by mindless cost cutting.

Mahindra need not play "Messiah of the poor" anymore. They can just play "*The* Messiah"

2) How will it hold in such hot sunlight and hot weather in North India.
3) How will it perform in the Long run? How well it will hold the tailgate from hinges. Suspect soon it will start making sound, Specially in Mahindra where we all know about its build quality.
It would only be the outer panels which are plastic, which means it should have no bearing on the crash safety. The crash protection is provided by the metal frame on which the panels are mounted.

As specified by others, few points:
  1. Plastic is a broad term. In automotive usage, plastic on outer panels will be FRP, or similar composite materials which is reinforced. It is generally much stiffer than normal plastic.
  2. FRP has been used in sports cars for many decades, so it is nothing new. Recent developments of course have improved it, and solved many issues of the past.
  3. Major downside of these would be - • look and feel, it can be 'bendy' when you press it (like old corvette rear panel) • the surface will not be as smooth in shape as metal, leading to a 'wavy' appearance when you look from the side • difficult to get it precisely made leading to poor panel gaps, etc, heat can cause it to deform • difficult to repair, needs replacement. • Caveat - many of these might be solved with the latest advancements in material tech and process.

Re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I see lot of people worried about the fiberglass tailgate, let me introduce this guy, who's entire body panels are made of fiberglass.
Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs-images-6.jpeg
Even corvettes of today have a combination of carbon fiber and fiberglass panels!

Wiki article :

Quote:
The C5's modular body panels use a lightweight composite material known in the automotive industry as SMC or Sheet Molded Composite, a type of fiberglass that is blended and bonded with plastics. SMC provides better protection against direct blows because it is very stiff and will not dent. The floor boards on the C5 are a composite consisting of SMC with balsa wood in the middle.

Re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Been following the XUV7OO unfold with all the events this past 2 days and I must say, it has managed to get the attention of all (competition included). Kudos to the M&M marketing team in achieving that goal!!

Being a potential buyer of XUV7OO, I like what I see and was surprised by the pricing of the base models. Again, like few mentioned here, this is just a marketing gimmick to get the attention. The AX7 with (Auto + AWD) and other options included might actually touch 22+ lakhs and beyond in my opinion.

Expect new pricing (increased) starting Jan 2022. So, if you happen to have made-up your mind to buy, then book early to get the price benefit. Couple of features I expected and haven't seen any confirmation are ventilated seats, ambient lighting and 6-seat (captain seat) configuration. Hope these are not missed out by Mahindra. I too got a call from their team as a follow-up to collect data on my interest to buy XUV700 and I happily shared those details. I don't expect the bookings to start anytime sooner than Oct 2nd.

A trend I am observing in the previous comments about the quality of XUV700. If something like an Innova is expensive, we comment Toyota is minting money and it should be actually priced about 5 lakhs cheaper. But, when an Indian manufacturer offers something at an acceptable pricing, we start doubting their quality. This I think isn't right. I would actually give the benefit of doubt to Mahindra here and wait for things to unfold. I know XUV500 doesn't set any high standards when it comes to quality (of design, plastics, electronics etc.), but it's built like a tank with a gem of an engine and transmission. Even if XUV7OO is an improvised version of XUV500, i don't mind it, as long as it's definitely improved. What's Safari, it's just an elongated version of Harrier isn't it.

Tata had to price Harrier and Safari the way they did, because neither the engine nor the Auto Transmission belongs to them. It's outsourced and that increases the price. Koreans are just milking us with their offerings. We know the quality of their products and the safety ratings. They sell because of all the glitz they showcase. We also know that cost of a product is directly connected to how much of it is manufactured in-house and the scale/volume of production. The point I am trying to make is, I feel that someone is actually offering a good product at the right price bracket for once. So, let's not crush them with negativity on quality. I am in no way connected to Mahindra as a company and it's purely my individual opinion. I may still end-up not buying XUV7OO, but appreciate the effort they are making to bring some sense to pricing in today's auto industry.

Re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I searched online and found out that Nissan’s been using plastic tail gate for their Rogue model since 2013. And it seems to have won some innovation award for that. So I don’t think there is much to panic as most of the impact in case of rear end collision will be absorbed by Body in white structure (of course tailgate and rear bumper do absorb some forces)

This is a fantastic feature to have imo. Wont require opening of panels for fitting a dashcam, which is increasingly becoming a necessity.
