But looks a fantastic launch from Toyota - it makes the old Urban Cruiser / Brezza feel quite outdated.

After the Etios debacle, Toyota looks serious to get it perfect this time!

Price will be a concern, but it will still sell - feature-loaded to the gills, just like Indians love it!

I am just wondering now, how & when does MSIL plan to launch their version of this vehicle? Saw the new Brezza advertisement in the newspaper today and I actually thought a similar version of the UC was being launched today by Toyota. But the UC Hyryder seems to be just the perfect balance that was needed in the Mid-SUV segment.

This is a goona be Creta killer for sure if priced with justified premium. Its got the looks and a decent desirable feature list. Hoping for all black interior at least in higher trim.

With the emphasis on electric, reduced carbon emission, high fuel efficiency during the launch, somehow I am getting a sense that all variants will be strong hybrid only. What do you guys think?

A weak hybrid cannot give any of the above in a tangibe way.

Strong Hybrid:

The hybrid system on the Toyota Hyryder is paired with a 177.6 V Lithium-ion battery. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder boasts of an electric-only range of upto 25km, and Toyota says that in our conditions, the hybrid system can cover 40 percent of the total distance and 60 percent time in pure EV mode.
The overall efficiency of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hyrbid under test conditions is expected to be in the region of 24-25kpl, which will make it best in class.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the first midsize SUV in India to come with strong hybrid technology. It employs Toyota’s e-drive fourth generation hybrid tech found in international products like the Yaris hatchback and the Yaris Cross SUV (spied in India recently). The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder features Toyota's 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine that produces 92hp and 122Nm of torque. It has a 14:1 compression ratio and a temperature and pressure control to help achieve a thermal efficiency of 40 percent, making it efficient on its own. The engine is paired to an electric motor that makes 79hp and 141Nm of torque.

It features a high-density power control unit that can control more than 100A of current. It features vertically-arranged transistors and an efficient cooling system enables transistor switching up to 10,000 times a second.

Toyota is also offering the Neo Drive engine with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It is essentially Maruti Suzuki's 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid power plant with Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), which is also found on Maruti Suzuki models like the new Brezza, XL6 and the Ertiga. It makes 103hp and 137Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to either a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

What are the power figures. If all this hybrid stuff is not adding power on top of this engine its even more disastrous tune than the regular one in Brezza, Ertiga knowing this one has a bigger size too. Maruti has already killed this engine to the limit in the race for kmpl.

They mentioned the two engines separately. 1.5K Suzuki engine will only be mild hybrid.
My prediction, for on road prices, for the top end variants
Full Hybrid : 25+ Lakhs in Bangalore
Suzuki 1.5K : 21 Lakhs in Bangalore

Firstly, there is nothing unfortunate about a Suzuki steering. Secondly, nope! The Suzuki steering is a flat bottom and this isn't. Hence this is in all likelihood, taken from the Yaris Cross.

P.S.- The interior is actually heavily inspired from the Yaris Cross! No wonder it was spied multiple times!
