Looks lovely from the front. Has anyone seen any reliable images of the Maruti offering? I mean the unveil is less than a month away and all I have seen so far are photoshopped images by amateurs pretending to be auto journos

Not authentic. That YouTube channel is filled with edited images/videos. If you ask me, I would say this is photoshopped from a ZS EV facelift. Just by looking at the air dam/grill.

Toyota, Maruti confirm mild, strong hybrid engines for new midsize SUVs.

Both hybrid systems will be based on the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki, with lower variants getting the mild-hybrid versions, while higher versions get the full-hybrid set-up.

Brands confirm production will begin at Toyota's Karnataka plant in August.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder to go on sale in August.

Plus, the mild-hybrid unit will be available with an optional all-wheel drivetrain while front-wheel drive will be standard.

Which engine for the strong Hybrid remains to be seen.



Maruti’s version is expected to commence a month after the Toyota model has been rolled out.

As per the link in this post, both models will be built by Toyota technicians by Toyota in a Toyota plant. Does this translate into any real benefits for the end customer in terms of consistency and quality of build when compared to say a Maruti built vehicle? Not meant as a insult to Maruti build process, but this is a genuine question. Did their previous joint offering Baleno/Urban Cruiser have a similar arrangement?

AWD is offered with Toyota strong hybrids internationally. The news scoops must have mixed things up, or maybe the K15 C will be tuned for performance in the AWD version.*

Brezza 2022 has same engine K15C with mild hybrid technology. I am sure Suzuki will ensure different engine tuning for the upcoming higher segment car. But from customers point of view, same engine/output numbers as Brezza will be hard oil to swallow.

Logical choice will then be to opt for strong hybrid variant. Hoping against hope here that Toyota and Suzuki keep the strong hybrid variant cost below 20-21 lacs OTR.

Maruti and Toyota continues with the tradition of offering the least power output of all cars in the segment and that too, when they are the last to enter the segment. Hope they price it competitively and offer a 5* crash safety rating, which will be a USP over the 'unsafe' Hyundai/Kia twins.

Got a call from dealer that they have unofficially started taking booking with a cheque of Rs 50,000. On asking how they will put the booking, I was told that they will maintain the excel and will put the bookings in system in same order they get booking in excel file and encash cheque only then. I again asked what if the official booking amount is Rs 11000/Rs 15000 then he said will return the Rs 50,000 cheque and take fresh cheque of new amount. I told him to call me once they can enter into system and have confirmation of booking amount.

Looks cool! Should be a hit if Toyota price this correctly and the mild hybrid version has some decent power output.

The strong hybrid would be engaging to drive for sure but the mild hybrid would be underwhelming if it produces the same power as the Brezza/UC.
