Re: Scoop! MG Hector facelift launch plans; feature updates & price

The next facelift should have a flat screen that has Netflix, Amazon and other apps pre-loaded. After all, the driver hardly does any driving, all he/she does is browse through that massive screen and watch movies. Absolutely insane!

https://www.motoroids.com/news/the-n...s-teaseteased/

Additional updates as per this article:
1) New larger grill
2) New alloy design
3) AC controls will be touch sensitive
4) Launch expected soon (assuming in Aug itself) and deliveries starting in October (Around Diwali). Till launch most tech journalists have hinted at getting regular teasers from MG.

As per another article, the pricing could range from 19 to 22 Lakhs ex-sh vs. current sharp CVT top variant which is priced at 20 Lakhs ex-sh. Also this new top variant will be sold as New Gen Hector alongside existing Hector. (Mentioning a range may mean option of getting with and without ADAS)

Why are car makers selling old models with new ones side by side? We first saw this in the City, Scorpio and now the MG Hector. Is there some sales and marketing strategy behind selling two generations of the same car together?

Re: Scoop! MG Hector facelift launch plans; feature updates & price

MG should do a couple if things with the newer model

1. Get the Crash Testing results out (for new and current models)
2. Give an Automatic option on the diesel
3. Give a stronger hybrid on the existing petrol engine

It lets them sell the same car at different price points. Win-win for both the customer as well as for the manufacturer.

It also improves the chances of an Upsell - the higher variant, when the customer sees what he's getting extra if he's willing to spend a little more.

This is done when the current model is already doing healthy numbers and the upcoming model is expected to cost significantly higher than the existing model. The price sensitive customers can continue to buy the existing one while the new one takes the fight to the next segment. Toyota has, owing to its global policies, discounted the qualis and Innova. Otherwise they would have sold in healthy numbers for many more years without denting the new car numbers.

14 inch screen is laptop size ! Next is to make it a 32 inch LED TV size from MG. Sincerely hope this mad practice of providing larger and larger screens sees a decline. Why not spend a small % of the money in getting a 4 star or better GNCAP rating ??

Because that is what the Indian consumer loves and wants and the company will always do things for the end customers and not the keyboard warriors.
Sad but the hard truth of life. Those who can digest the truth will simply keep quiet those who can't, well there is nothing more to say.

Re: Scoop! MG Hector facelift launch plans; feature updates & price

I feel screens getting larger have a potential to distract the driver. We already have android auto/apple car play on vehicles. It will not be long before some weirdo starts watching/streaming content on the screen. This may already be happening in some chauffeur driven cars.
Perhaps, I am being a skeptic but this does have the potential to be hazardous. Ideally, there should be some limit to screen size from a safety point of view.

This is how jobs are being created in the Automotive industry. From outside it may look exaggerated but new requirements like this are giving jobs to people like us. But it is being done with some sense and logic not simply to overdo other OEMs. The market for Automotive is going in this direction accept it or not because that's where the growth is. No of people asking for better ride ( handling, body roll, cornering, suspension, performance, pickup etc.) are less nowadays compared to no. of people asking for Connectivity, digital screens, wireless AA/CP, wireless charging, ventilated seats, pano sunroof etc. Otherwise the Auto industry would have saturated and stagnated already.
Same thing people said about mobile devices, when the screen sizes started growing beyond 5inch+. But we all know how that industry flourished with that.

This is where OEMs implement the Driver Restriction. When speed is above certain threshold (usually 7kmph) then the infotainment will restrict many functions. This should reduce some distraction.

Re: Scoop! MG Hector facelift launch plans; feature updates & price

I don't remember seeing so much backlash for Mercedes AMG SL when it was introduced with 12 inch display in recent times. Maybe we are over thinking about this bit here when D1 mom luxury segment car is bringing it.

I keep checking out new tech and interior designs coming up in cars globally. One thing is clear that automakers are investing mostly on screens and software optimisation for it.

One big usecase for these big screens is ADAS functionalities. Industry is moving towards ADAS level 3 and 4 in developed markets and it needs larger displays + use in digital instrument clusters. Next use case is 360 view on such large screens.

Also, one should understand that just like in phones, the reduction in bezels reduces the over all size but can still accommodate a higher diagonal screen size. Like my wife's S8+ had 6.2 inch screen and now S22 has 6.1 inch, however if you hold both next to each other it will seem like S8+ is 25% larger ( due to more bezels!)

Re: Scoop! MG Hector facelift launch plans; feature updates & price

14 inch or 32 inch, it still doesn't matter if MG doesn't improve the screen responsiveness and camera quality. What's the point if you have to see those sad VGA level camera feeds on that big screen which lags? We all loved the Hector while cross shopping but that hideous camera and lethargic screen put every single one of my family off!

The Hector is a great car which offers so much for the money you spend, but MG really needs to (and I hope they will) work on the quality of the screen and the camera system, instead of just adding the screen real state.

I got this in status of Pune MG dealer executive. It says ADAS level 2 also included in facelift and also hints price to be sub 20 Lacs. Not sure how much is correct but if it’s coupled with diesel automatic transmission, it will be game changer move.

20 Lakhs for New Gen Hector sounds unbelievable. Current Sharp CVT variant is at 18.72L ex-sh. One should expect 1.5 Lakhs increase over this atleast (some reports are even saying 3 Lakhs increase!). In either case, it will be cheaper compared to Harrier or XUV700 top variants.

Second that! I am hopeful that this will be resolved, as I have noticed latest OS/UI + cameras of MG cars in Europe (+SAIC group cars in China) are much smoother/clean and of higher quality. Even Astor's OS is more responsive but cameras are okayish. Keeping fingers crossed!

As per Financial Express, Hector will be launched by end of August.
https://www.financialexpress.com/aut...-more/2607915/

It does make sense, as MG last year launched Shine variant in mid August and Astor reveal also happened in August.
As per news bits I am expecting following timelines - Reveal in Aug followed by price announcements in Sep and deliveries in October (pre-Diwali).
