Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

I booked the RWD LX on first day itself (9th Jan i.e.). I've been provided April, 2024 date for delivery. On asking the representative about the next year date, I was told that the date may be wrongly typed by the person making the entry (which I felt strange). He also told me that in any case booking date mentioned in booking docket doesnt matter that much and I will be allotted the vehicle on first come first serve basis.

Haha As I said in one of my earlier posts, the dates are actually fed by the dealership guys and not by Mahindra unlike Scorpio N.

I have been confirmed verbally by dealership that the all bookings on the first day are most likely to get price protection and delivery will commence soon. They also said they have 7 black 4*4 Thar available at the yard if I am interested (point he was trying to make is, the waiting for thar is not an issue anymore)

Waiting period for the new Thar will not be that much and we will soon see the vehicles hitting the road.

Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

Brand Thar which was a niche, became commercial with the face life and with the RWD option they plan to commercialise it even further. What I mean is the real Thar owners (True off-roading fans) is a very small cohort, with the facelift (Primarily due to looks and road presence and pseudo wrangler feel) a lot of buyers have opted for Thar.

And hardly 5% of them use 4x4 gear available to them. New RWD version which is easy on pocket both in terms of one time investment and the recurring cost solves for the customer base who are looking for just Road presence and tough image [which is majority of customers now]. This will capture share of sub-compact segment [Brezza, Nexon, Venue] and soon we will see Thar doing 5-6K numbers monthly

Does any one has clarity on what does Electronic BLD being present in the RWD means in the brochure?

4WD variants have MLD at the rear, is Mahindra putting E BLD in RWD rear?

Can someone confirm this? This would be a very nice and welcome edition and shall fulfill the rough road requirements of 99.9% users.

Throw in a set of snow chains at back + E BLD and your good to go.

.......
I think as the power is connected only to the rear two wheels, the ENBLD will work for the traction with respect to the both rear tyres only as opposed to a 4wd setup. I will state an example of a situation where one rear tire is on slippery surface and other on a grippy one. Its difficult to explain as such but I will give a try, in brief.

So in such case, say for example, left tire is on a slippery surface and right rear tyre is on a firm ground. It is possible that when you throttle the system, the tyre, which is on a slippery surface, will spin more in comparison to the tyre which has the grip. The ECU senses this and applies break on only left rear tire that is on the slippery surface. So the break will reduce the spinning of the tyre.
Now the other part of the ECU senses the resistance on that tire (which is due to the application of the break). As the ECU senses resistance, it will try to increase the traction or the grip of the other tire as well.

This setup will assist the whole vehicle to come out on a more even surface rather easily. It is due to the less spinning by the right rear tire which is already on a firm grippy surface, and not it will have nore traction.

Having said that, I would say that EBLD is more useful in 4x4set up (but for obvious reasons). However, having EBLD in 4x2 is rather better than having nothing at all. So I will appreciate Mahindra to think out of the box and rather not to disconnect the 4x2 driver completely from .4x4 experience.

4X4 Thars have Electronic BLD for the front axle and MLD at the rear. For 2WD too, the possibility is that it has only Electronic BLD for the front axle.

Attachment 2405206
It's basically an extension of your traction control system, it selectively brakes the free spinning wheel thereby transferring the torque to the wheel with traction. It can be quite useful if calibrated well.

Infact the 4x4 Thar now comes with BLD by default.

The much-hated new Bronze colour doesn't stand out as very odd in the real world - at least looks better than in pics, IMHO.

But still not for everyone.

Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

Dear Members, Any idea on who are going to get the deliveries scheduled for 14th Jan? Has any of TBHP members who booked on the first day, got any update from the company/dealer for tomorrow or 15th Jan? Any communication received from the company except booking confirmation?

I booked it on the same day online after the announcement. Dealer contacted me next day for KYC documents to process the order from their end. But, no further updates since then. I can only see 'Booking completed' as the order status. Fingers crossed.

Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

Thanks for the update. When I login to check booking status, it shows "Order Confirmed" in the status. The dealer, when asked for On-Road price, sent a hilarious working - Insurance 57k for ex-showroom price of 10.99 lacs, "Essential Accessories" of 25k, and an Environment Tax - Blank. Also, the on the booking screen or somewhere else, there was a disclaimer that EPC (Environment Protection Charges) may be payable by Buyers in specific areas like Delhi-NCR. Any idea on what would be the quantum of this?

Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

I have had a talk with the showroom person today in Noida. He told me that the delivery in NCR may begin on Jam 20th. But he neither confirmed the delivery date for me nor whether my booking will be included in the first 10000.

Does anyone has any update with respect to delivery date?

Re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

It seems about 20 vehicles have already been delivered to the showrooms (in 2022) and these would be delivered starting mid-end January.
The next batch would start 6 weeks away.
Off-line bookings were taken before announcements and official opening for bookings.

I went to the dealer today. They have absolutely no clue about anything. All they have been told to do is get kyc documents from customers who have done online booking. Nothing more than that

Torque is the least amount of force required to turn the wheel - so if a wheel is spinning freely, and when using an open differential setup, all the engine power tranmitted via the driveshaft into the differential is automatically transferred to the spinning wheel (and not to the other wheel with traction). By braking the spinning wheel on-off-on-off the differential will transfer the power to the other wheel with grip (which is now easier to spin than the braked wheel) and help move the car out of the slippery patch.

Unlikely - pointless to have BLD on front axle as no power goes to the wheels on it.
