Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

So finally M&M got some sense and is fixing the faulty scorpioN. Big lessons for those who were ridiculing AP. Now Mahindra is dancing to his tunes. But still few are hell bent to prove that Mahindra was right in its response.

Oh, I see! Sorry, I didn't realize that post was meant to be a joke. I didn't get the humor. Thanks for pointing that out!

Not very difficult if the fix was eliminated from the final product to save costs. Its not like they're replacing the whole sunroof as a fix?

Btw is this sunroof from Webasto? I remember Tata retrofitting Harriers with those things and causing leaks due to poor fit and finish.

But it's nearly impossible to have such a change done so soon as a reaction to a video.
Well conspiracy theorist at work.
This is quite possible that Mahindra had themselves identified the problem. However whilst they were working on a preventive action/solution , some information got leaked that there is a issue with drainage.
Our dear YouTuber got his hands on the information and tried to make a quick buck(views).

And that is why the part has been added so quickly, so yes, agree with @audioholic.

Its more complicated unfortunately. Anyone running any sort of business knows that it takes countless hard, grinding hours to build a product, service and a reputation. And in these social media days, it takes a 5 min video to bring it crashing down. Even if its subsequently proven false, there is zero accountability for the accuser (thank our legal system and libel laws for that)- all everyone remembers is that fragment of a video/photo/tweet/headline.

I can understand where they are coming from, when people and businesses over-react. If you and we all think back, we would empathize (a bit) too.

Compare this to the tone-deaf approach of Volkswagen to the DQ200 issue in India, and the contrast is mind-boggling.

Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

People who have no idea of how automobile design, manufacturing, PDI works are making all kinds of baseless statements on this thread.

The kind of leakage that Panwar is showing is simply not possible as a design defect given the testing procedures. Most design issues discovered post launch relate to reliability and not to functionality.

It is also unlikely to be a manufacturing defect since each and every vehicle passes through a shower test as part of PDI - something as glaring as bucket loads of water leaking through the roof will get caught.

And now we have a new story invented - that Mahindra modified the design and added some new part all within a matter of a few weeks. Fertile imagination I would say, but propaganda nonetheless.

Only people indulging in this propaganda would know what their motivations are.

Won't be the first time or the last time that a manufacturing defect was caught during PDI and still sold without a fix. We hear horror stories like this every week on this forum, across most carmakers.

I wish posters here would be willing to admit that we really don't know for sure if the water leak issue is a genuine one or not until proper analysis is done, and perhaps not even then.

Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

What a week it has been. Two local manufacturers first denying that a problem exists then silently offering replacement. One of them is offering it as a "free upgrade" instead of recalling all the old products they've sold and doing it before more people crash with the old suspension. The other one tries to debunk the accusation with a promotional video then silently updates the part in question. And there's people defending such unscrupulous actions instead of holding them accountable.

Because we as a society are extremists.

Extremists on one hand, will try and defend Mahindra and the product. Probably because they themselves own the same product, spending a good amount of hard earned money on it and then trying to justify their purchases by defending even shortcomings of the product and lauding the manufacturer for anything and everything it does.

The extremist on the other side is the fan boy of Mr. Panwar and such overnight get rich Youtubers, who will do anything to protect and defend his side of story and even his silly and nonsensical videos.

The point is, the truth almost always lies somewhere in the middle. .

But the middle path is not easy to tread.

Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

Just adding my thoughts.
1. The youtuber in question produces content targeted at a very specific audience. That audience loves these type of controversies. Browse through, you will see many controversies.
2. There are very clear biases in the opinions of youtubers in general. Some biases are organic (self acquired) while some biases are inorganic(induced by external agents). Using influencers / Youtubers for marketing is a very common practice now. Many times youtubers do not even put disclaimer on what is sponsored & what is not.
3. If this was a design problem, it would have been much widely reported on Team BHP & it would have not been an isolated incident, that too with a youtuber with an unhidden bias.
4. The thought that Mahindra changed the design basis a youtube video within a couple of weeks is laughable. But yes many will wholeheartedly believe it to be true.
5. I personally loved Mahindra's response video. They would have released the video only after careful thought. It is unlikely that this event will have any sort of impact on the sale numbers of the vehicle.

Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

This guy is something else.

He has got Mahindra to come to him in peace and fix his car.

They have loaned him a top of the line XUV700 till his car is repaired.

And guess what he does next?

Releases a video stress testing the loaner XUV's sunroof (no exposed speakers or rubber) to further make his point about the Scorpio N sunroof.

It's just amazing how an unemployed 22-year-old (who no self-respecting petrolhead takes seriously) has so completely and publicly owned Mahindra, one of the country's most admired brands.

PS: Just to be clear, i'm not pro-youtuber or anti-mahindra. I'm just looking at it from a crisis response perspective.

Mahindra started installing the foam paddings above front surround speakers for all Jan 23 manufactured models, much ahead of this fiasco.
Also, a foam padding will do very little to deflect water.

Re: Mahindra responds to YouTuber's fake video on Scorpio-N water leak

A quick question: would existing customers get the new updates (sunroof padding, camera etc). Feeling a little let down for being an early buyer of ScorpioN Z8L :(

I think Mahindra's response was apt here. They basically gave him 0 attention and did not even speak his name or mention his video. They just let their video do the talking.
Buddy, I seriously wished you were right. But Mahindra has gone ahead and made a fool out of themselves, first by refuting the whole "roof-gate" issue and then taking corrective measures thereby proving the whole God damn thing true.
When will they learn
