INDIA is turning out to be the new launch pad for global car models as major car makers prefer India over Europe and the American markets.

Korean car major Hyundai Motor will debut its latest premium hatchback — code named Pa — in India in November ahead of its global launch in January 2008. Hyundai Motor India V-P (marketing & sales) Arvind Saxena said: “India is now a global hub for small cars and no manufacturer can afford to ignore that. It’s a big competitive market for the best cars to compete. Our new premium compact car Pa will hit India two months earlier than Europe and other world markets.”

Some more news on Pa and not being a Santro replacement

Source: Business Standard Motoring - Sep 28, 2007

India base for Hyundai small car PaBS Reporter / Kolkata September 28, 2007India will be the exclusive manufacturing hub for Hyundai's small car code-named Pa, B Mani, senior general manager(customer care service) of Hyundai Motor India Limited(HMIL) said. HMIL, the country's biggest car exporter, would first launch Pa in India, which is likely to be launched by the year-end. The company’s planned diesel Getz was expected to sell well. "HMIL has also set an ambitious target of exporting 2.5 lakh cars from the country in the next two years, up from 1,13,339 units which were exported last year. Hyundai's new manufacturing facility, slated to come near its existing plant near Chennai will be operationalised by October this year", Mani added. The new facility would have a production capacity of 3,00,000 units per annum, thereby scaling up HMIL's overall capacity to 6,00,000 units per annum. The company, which currently sells 15,000 units of all its models countrywide is aiming a sales volume of 18,000 units for the upcoming fiscal, BS Jeong, senior general manager of HMIL told mediapersons. The share of eastern India in the overall sales volume is also expected to grow from the existing 9 per cent to 15 per cent by 2010. At present, Hyundai sells around 1,000 units per month in eastern India. Putting to rest all speculation regarding phasing out of Santro following the launch of Pa, Jeong said, "There is no possibility of Hyundai phasing out Santro which happens to be our largest selling car in India. Out of our sales target of 18,000 units per annum, 14,000 will be that of Santro." In another development, HMIL, the country's second largest car manufacturer in a bid to strengthen its brand image has launched a unique customer centric initiative called 'Greeting Activity' in eastern India. The programme, kicked off in eastern India, would cover 183 cities across the country. The 'Greeting Activity' will be supplemented by Hyundai's ongoing 'Always Around' campaign wherein the Hyundai dealers would reach out to the customers and organise free check-up of Hyundai models. The Hyundai team will visit areas like amusement parks, shopping complexes, office complexes and also residential areas, where there is a significant concentration of Hyundai customers. This initiative means that the Hyundai customers need not have to visit the Hyundai srvice stations. Till now, HMIL has contacted about 10,000 customers through this initiative.

Cloud be a typo. Since the Getz diesel is already launched, Santro AT booking stopped and Santro variants trimmed from 4 to 3 (base, GL and GLS ,source : http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/2406269.cms) I think the PA would be here anytime.

In the European markets, isn't Pa going to replace the Santro/Atoz?

In Europe and South east Asia , the Santro/Atos will be replaced by the new PA.
But in India and Africa , the Santro will be continuing along with its successor PA just like our classical Laura-octavia , Fiesta-Ikon etc.

Today's ET also mentions that PA would be launched at the end of 2008! (http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Daily...ogin=default )
Media guys....! One thing that I have noticed about these Times Guys...(No offense anyone), lately they have started making a lot of such errors (or may be I have started scrutinizing the papers).

Anyhow, lets hope that it is launched this year itself and soon!

If they launch it in India in November, wouldn't that be the global launch too? Or are we Indians living in an alternate world?

Most likely October end.

What the director of a hyundai dealership told me was that they were hoping it would be the year end so as to have a clear cut 2 months between Getz CRDI and PA launch. Hyundai on the other hand doesnt seem to think the customers should wait

Pa is supposed to be good car because Santro is too small car to use for family and Getz is too expensive to own, so definately Hyundai need good better in this segment which is bundled with space and attractive price point.

I feel Pa is promising one I am looking for Automated small car I hope its Pa I am waiting for.

Regards,

Ravi.
