I don't think Fabia needs a death knell; its not doing too well anyways.

However, this may be a good car for the taxi segment considering the rear seat space and comfort on offer

haha, this and fabia are totally unrelated. apart from the overprices A.S.S , the ikon and the fabia have nothing in common. At least i hope the ikon is priced attractively

Blah blah blah.

Tell you what, this is so reminiscent of the Palio MJD. Except that Ford, unlike Fiat actually will market the product. It needs to be priced well, else its an end of lifecycle product. Which is partly a downfall for the MJD too.

It doesn't offer much, but then I found the Accent's leather gear knob ads bordering on the asinine. And it lacks that fresh factor. I too felt it was the escort.

I'm not sure if the man on the street will appreciate it much either. Ikon is passe and that's how it is (taking nothing away from what is rightfully a nice car) - add in the Ford A.S.S/Spares question and dZire waiting list doesn't shorten much.

and how can we all sitting here pass a judgement like it being fun to drive or not?

hehe, the real picture from the workshop is so much more jarring in its "ancientness" than the ones on the brochure. (Obviously)

Now I doubt its chances of success even more!

Compared to the (new) Ikon, the accent still looks kind of clean, there is some design integrity out there definitely. Stupid ads notwithstanding, the Accent (Executive) has far superior interiors than the Ford. Coupled with strong resale values, very good and reasonably priced A.S.S, the accent makes a decent case for itself.

Have to agree with you on that. Cover up the bottom part of the bumper; the elongated headlamps and narrow grill make iot look like an escort!

Also, the gap betweent he tires and wheel arch seem huge!

Camera angle I think. Doesn't look so hideous in the brochure.

Makes sense, though I don't believe everyhing I see in brochures :-)

Another thing I can't seemt o understand: the brochure mentions something about clean sides as there are no 'contours'. What on earth are they talking about? The side rubrails? I think they only make the Ikon look better.

Great work SID. Honestly am disappointed with the Styling and lack of features. Will give this one a straight pass!

I am not going to say much here, because A$$ is a very relative experience frankly speaking.

Just a thread i found :

Here are some spare prices listed in this post, one of which caught my fancy.

Last friday he told me to check his car as he thght there is a weak bettery. Hyundai Service had told him to replace his battery as it was old and will die anytime soon. When I opened the bonnet and checked , I agreed that the batt needs changing.

Also, when the car was started, the fuel leaked from the hose connecting the engine. They charged 2350/- in total for the replacement and labour.

1700/- for the new hose and 400/- visitng charge and 250/- labour charges

Later he said they also told him some of the parts that needs to be changed.

1. Front both struts - 4000/-
2. Front RH wheel bearing - 2000/-
3. Rear LH wheel bearing - 4200/-
4. Lower arm RH - 3000/-
5. Drive Shaft boot - 1200/-
6. LH drive shaft - ?? No Proce yet
7. Lower ball joint - 700/-

When I drive the car, I didnt feel like there was any prob with any of the mentioned above. Car's running good. Batt has been replaced.
Here is the cost of the wheel bearing in case of the Ikon. This is from someone who has owned an Ikon for 7 long years, and knows it inside out.

Once again, lets not generalize.

Hehe, thats very true, I stand corrected.

Just for the record though, I consider Ford service to be unreliable and expensive vis-a-vis Hyundai after owning an accent for 6 years and an Ikon for 4 years.

Cheers

A TBHP first yet again, Sidindica. Thanks for sharing. I think the facelifted look is okay, not overtly positive but not too bad either. The most crucial factor to market success will be the fuel-efficient 1.4 TDCi. Considering that the Ikon has been around for almost a decade and is so heavily localised, Ford can easily price it competitively. How about a half below the Dzire? The Ikon has a heck of a backseat too.

Overall it is a decent package for entry level sedan - success will of course depend on pricing.

BTW, note that this has fog lamps standard which the "great" All New Honda City designers did not even consider as a normal thing to go on cars.

sid, i salute thou.

what a fugly looking car - that front end could make babies cry. The profile looks pathetic, like Jughead's girl, Ethel! Beg to differ, I think the D'zire looks way better.

Evo: Agree. My dad had a '99 Accent GLS and then a '03 Ikon 1.6 SXi - the Accent is much better car to be driven in - the interiors are definitely classier, the suspension softer, road and engine noise insulation higher.

reckon the diesel would make serious sense to taxi owners...
