Doesn't look like a 1 lakh car to me. In a good way!

Given all its troubles last year, it is no surprise that the Nano is seeking divine blessings as its commercial launch date nears.
While two factory-fresh Nanos — one white, one silver — were driven to the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday for blessings, on Sunday afternoon, yet another Nano made its way through the narrow, crowded lanes outside Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s dargah in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Tata officials with the car offered a chadar at the shrine.
“Ratan Tata himself instructed that the blessings of different leading shrines of our pluralistic country should be sought before the Nano hits the road,” said one of the five officials who travelled in the car to Amritsar, refusing to be named.
With the plant that will eventually manufacture the Rs 1 lakh car still being built at Sanand in Gujarat, the model taken to the Golden Temple was assembled at the factory in Uttarakhand, 400 km away. “We drove down from Pantnagar,” said the Tata official.
The Nano in Ajmer was built at Pimpri in Maharashtra, airlifted from Mumbai to Jaipur and driven down, said a Tata Motors dealer.
The Nano drew huge crowds everywhere. “Wherever we stopped for lunch or tea, hundreds would gather,” the Tata official said. “Many wanted to test-drive the vehicle. We allowed a few to do so.”
“It was both a spiritual journey and a test of its road worthiness,” said Rishi Dada, managing director of Dada Motors, Tatas’ authorised dealer in Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

Yes, Tata does need gods intervention, with the financial mess it is in, the Nano selling well could be the only silver lining for it this year.

Here is the video :-

So a white (Base version) was driven from Pantnagar, Uttarkhand down to Golden Temple, whereas this Silver Deluxe version was air lifted from Pimpri, Maharashtra and taken to Azmer Sharif.

So Pantnagar plant will manufacture Standard version, Pimpri plant plant will manufacture Delux version.

Makes sense, as Pantnager will cater to Northern-Central-Eastern market, where per-capita income is lower.

While Pimpri Plant will cater to Western and Southern market where per-capita income is higher compared to northern easter and northern region.

Once Sanand Plant will be commissioned, it will cater to Gujarat-Punjab-Export markets and also act like mother to Pantnagar and Pimpri.

Thanks :-)

i read in the sat indian express that the nano launch will be delayed. though it was not mentioned how long, the tone seemed a bit longer.
anyone aware of it ???

i guess the other manufacturers might be lobbying for it !!

well the bookings about to start i.e. somewhere in end March-April. And there is going to be a lottery after a couple of months to decide who gets the first lot of cars just like it happened way back with the Maruti 800 when it came to the Indian shores. So expect the first owner driven Nano on the roads somewhere around July-August. (IMHO)

I sure hope we turn out lucky with this smallish wonder (can we call that) first up like our family was way back with the M800.

Nano is not a small car, look at the head room
much better than the many matchbox cars in the market today
