think about the international phenomenon - toyota launched Lexus. Nissan launched Infiniti , Honda launched Acura and so on and so forth. this was to build a separate brand with different aspirational cues and was also to dis associate the baggage that the earlier brands carried with them.
perhaps M&M and Tata could have taken that route with a complete and parallel setup. that may have been smarter. right now they are carrying plenty of baggage and this could be a hurdle to the success that they could otherwise achieve on the strength of their newer products!

Frankly W201 sounded way more aspirational than XUV500. This sounds like what you'd call a home robot or something.

Though the car looks promising, Mahindra could have done a better job in naming the car appropriately. Sounds like a name of a white good.
BTW is Mahindra deviating from it's tradition of naming their cars with words with letter "o".

That would be a great initiative by Mahindra. A parallel brand that takes the plus points of the parent brand, and looks to improve on the weakness and avoid carrying the baggage that the parent would have. It would create a niche for itself and maybe even be successful.

For the criteria to be met, Mahindra should induce quality and probably employ a professional design house to give it a distinction from their products. Also, these cars must be a step ahead, in terms of quality, features and luxury.

It might have an indian soft launch, just to make sure its available as option but never targetted to us at all.

Indian vehicles like XUV 500 and even ARIA for that matter will find it harder in the bigger foreign markets like Europe, USA, etc. This is not just due to brand and quality but also margins and costs. For example, Honda CRV starts around 21k pounds and if XUV costs Rs. 15 lakhs, it would be around the same amount.I find it tough for M&M to break into major foreign markets with XUV at this pricepoint.

IMO the best bet is to keep improving in India until they come up with world class products and look to export.

The vehicle has the potential to be a looker, but going by Mahindra's past history and their overt attempts to be 'cool' I wouldnt be surprised if it came out with a truly hideous and DC-fied grille, bumper and plastic claddings.

Hopes of a clean, mature vehicle have diminished with that utterly juvenile website that they were apparently so pleased about that they went around mass-mailing people about it.

But then for me the true blooded SUV/4x4 character ends when its a Monocoque and not a Body on Frame , when its a Front Wheel Drive and not a Rear Wheel Drive ( For what its worth , XUV-5 oh oh may be a All Wheel Drive)
