i dont think company would want to sell both models together, rather they would come out with those facelifts in new WagonR with newer emmission norms worked out.

Maruti to launch new WagonR by April 2010

Just in on CNBC. - Maruti Suzuki to launch new WagonR by April 2010 - CNBC-TV18 -

Maruti plans to launch a new WagonR by April 2010, reports CNBC-TV18. The new version will be more spacious and roomy, and sport a new K-Series 1 litre engine. It will be priced around Rs 3.3 lakh. The old WagonR will be phased out.

Nice that they decided to upgrade the entire car, instead of just the engine (aka SWIFT) Too bad that Maruti decided to keep the 3 cylinder 998 cc engine from the A-Star. This engine makes 67 bhp with 90NM toruqe / 3500 rpm. This will be defintely underpowered for Wagon R. and will leave you gasping for power, on the highway or when you are climbing up a nice hair pin bend somewhere in the hills. You will need to overwork on the gears to get decent power to the rubbers. This is guaranteed to displace Wagon R from the 2nd / 3rd (not sure) best selling car list now that it has serious competition in the neighborhood. This small step from Maruti, will ensure giant leaps for other manufacturers (new to the B segment) who are waiting for mistakes to be made by Maruti and Hyundai. Wish Maruti had really given the nicer 1.2 litre K to the Wagon R. This would have evinced more interest in the car as well as kept people upgrading (like me from a 800) in the Maruti family.

If you compare them by specs then K10B gives you 67bhp@6200rpm; 90Nm torque@3500rpm while the present F10D only gives you 64bhp@6200rpm and 84Nm torque@3500rpm. Also the K-series engine is much lighter than the current F-series engine, so better power to weight ratio.

The K10B engine is much better in terms of both power output and fuel efficiency. If at all there is a slight difference then it is in the engine refinement part. So you can be rest assured that it wont be leave you gasping at a hairpin.

Thanks for that piece of info. Hopefully it is not as bad as I think. But still the fly in the ointment is the 3 cylinder - Don't know how smooth it is going to be on the Wagon R - The outgoing version had a 4 cylinder though. The new POLO is also going to be a 3 pot - so I guess these new engines have better technology that makes them smooth, even though it has one less cylinder.

I prefer the Eeco's 1.2L 73BHp engine in the Wagon-R to keep the cost down. Though it is from an older generation, it is powerful, adequately refined, and fuel efficient also.

An all New WagonR will be most welcome. Let's just hope it's all new and not just new. After seeing the WagonR spy picture on the other thread, I'm not very convinced on this.

Wagon R is a good car but with the on-slot of newgen cars don’t know successful this car can be .
Hope it is a new car and not just a grill and headlamp job like they did it with Estilo.

WagorR is seriously due for an upgrade, expecially the interiors. Also it would be great if MSIL can launch a 5 seater one as this was one of the reasons I went in for a Santro than a Wagon R.

Yes it is BS4 compliant. It is a modified version of the previous Swift engine, to make it under 1200 CC for tax benefit.

WagonR is a 5-seater and IMHO the rear seat of the WagonR is much more comfortable for the middle guy when compared to a Santro(personal experience ).

@Mods- please merge these threads.

By the line "Maruti Suzuki to launch new WagonR by April 2010", all I can imagine is a restyled current Wagon R, some cosmetic changes like the one they recently did on Zen Estilo but yes with 1ltr K-Series heart

Waiting for Maruti to prove me wrong

Ill be happy if they at least launch the one which is currently doing its duty in Japan.

The current Wagon R 's production is stopping from Feb 27/28.The New Wagon R would be launched in a while. They will let the stocks clear.
This wagon R wont be upgraded neither would the old and new wagonr sell together.
It is an all new wagon R and as far as the looks are concerned i have heard that it has become more box looking.

Confirmed News from very reliable sources.
