Australian GP 2009

So the 2009 Season is upon us. After months of waiting the five red lights are upon us. Qualifying for the season opener at Melbourne begins tomorrow.

New Rules, new teams and fired up drivers . Will Hamilton defend his title this year? Will Kimi bounce back after last year or will Massa get the the title he lost last year? Alonso will be raring to go and Jenson Button might just spring up a surprise with the all new Brawn GP team. Force India should do well and get into the points. BMW is all go.

So lets have the predictions coming in starting with the qualifying and podium positions for the Australian Grand Prix.

Note:

We will have a seperate thread for each race for the 2009 season

I'm Predicting a Lewis Hamilton - Filipe Massa - Kimi Raikennon.

My Prediction for the Driver's Championship is Lewis Hamilton while for the Constructors , Ferrari, With Ferrari beating McLaren by a good margin and Lewis Hamilton just edge past Kimi and then Massa on the leaderboard at the final.

Looking at the Friday practice, I see McLaren is really struggling ... I have a feeling its going to be very interesting F1 season. Would want to reserve my comments on championship until the race this Sunday ...

Unfortunately, I am going to miss the live telecast

Kimi will kick *** this season. If the diffuser is deemed legal by FIA, then all cars will have it by Barcelona and the advantage enjoyed by Brawn, Williams and Toyota no longer stands.

Note that Ferrari, RedBull and Renault are not too far off the pace even with this disadvantage. So normal service should resume from that point onwards, with McLaren playing a bit of catchup.

For the Australian GP - Qualifying
1. Rosburg
2. Barrichello
3. Button

Race -
1. Raikonnen
2. Button
3. Rosberg

Less than 2 seconds seperated the entire field in the final practice (am excluding Kimi because of his hydraulic failure), looks like its going to be an interesting race, though with mechanical failures in the opening races getting lesser by the year over the last few years it could be a race of attrition this year because of the changing rules.

My feeling is we could have a surprise winner, which in all probablity going to be one of the "diffuser gang" (as called by the Redbull team) then with pretty much in season testing closed, it would take a lot for the others to catch up fast if the diffuser is not going be banned in the next appeal.

Am going for a winner from either a Toyota or Williams with Brawn the dark horse primarily because of their lack of testing as compared to others. Ferrari would be waiting to pick up the pieces in case none from the above last the distance in which case it could be most likely Massa than Kimi

Going by the practice results:

Rosberg>Massa>Kubica.
BTW, why is Kimi last on Saturday Practice?

My true-from-the-heart prediction (or expectation):
Kimi>Massa>Rosberg.

What a session. The entire hierarchy has been turned upside down!
McLaren Mercedes nowhere in sight. Ferrari towards the bottom of the top ten.
Full marks to Ross Brawn and his team. Don't like the man much, but, no denying, this is an amazing comeback.
Feel sad for Force India. I was hoping they spring a surprise.
