Today while coming back from work around 9:30pm, within 3-4 minutes of the journey, got an alert "Low pressure - rear right tyre". First thought - TPMS malfunction? Pulled over and checked with the Bluesense app - it showed 22psi. Got down and checked with a physical pressure guage - again similar reading. When I had tried TPMS relearning a few days back, it had given me an error at the end. So wasn't very sure if the tyre-position indicated by the system was actually matching with the reality. But when I checked the pressure physically, it actually was the rear-right tyre. Visibly the tyre did not look flattened. It was night, so could not check for nails or anything else stuck in the tyre. With some effort found the nearest punture guy - shop was closed. So drove home cautiously keeping an eye on the pressure. The pressure rose to 23 psi by the time I reached Mulund. Topped up the air at a place near my building and drove home. Let's see if there is indeed a puncture. Would come to know tomorrow. Day-time would also be ideal to change the tyre if needed.

Good thing is that the TPMS thingy as well as the BlueSense app works flawlessly.

23rd Aug - 9:31pm
Low-pressure warning on rear-right tyre. 22psi. Checked with physical gauge. Same pressure. Too dark to check for nails.


23rd Aug - 9:45pm
Pressure had increased to 23psi by now.


23rd Aug - 9:56pm
Drove to Mulund and stopped at a punture shop. Too late and too dark to get the puncture repaired. Also I was not very sure about the puncture. Might be someone deflated the tyre in the parking.
So got the air filled up to way beyond the normal. 42psi. The low-pressure warning vanished. Another reason for overinflating by such a large margin was to create a buffer for next morning if there indeed was a puncture.



24th Aug - 1:47pm
Was thoroughly busy in the morning and got to the car only around 1:45pm.
Visibly no difference to the tyre. It had not sinked. Checked the pressure and it had dropped to 25psi (from 42psi). Definitely a puncture! Verified the pressure with manual pressure gauge as well. Was not able to locate any nail.


Went to the same puncture shop and asked him if he can fix punctures on tubless tyres. He said yes and did fix it. Couple of pics:








He wasn't convinced that there was a puncture and was actually reluctant to fix it. Only when I told him that I am 100% sure that there is a puncture, he budged. He did struggle as the tyre is HUGE.

24th Aug - 2:33pm
The guy topped up the pressure to 45psi. I let it be. Good test for the new patch and if there is some air leakage, I would have some safety margin for next few hours.


No issues after 6 hours. So lowered the pressure to normal range.

PS: Am I getting into too much detail? A normal puncture story told with 9 images! That's too much.

I literally fell of my chair laughing at this comment . Too much detail?? I am not sure because this is the minimum that we expect of you now

On a serious note, this thread can be made into a thesaurus on XUV 5OO ownership and published for all potential buyers / current owners for years to come (Sorry, this again was not very serious)

Yes love following this thread. I too have a Tuscan red XUV and have had it for around 20 months now. The ownership experience has been excellent with no niggles experienced so far, except for the recall related ASS.Most of my long drives are in the XUV with the longest being the Del-Mum-Blr 4 day trip early last year. Was one breeze of a drive with the old, young, pet et all in it enjoying the most comfortable journey of their lives. Having had it for about 20 months now, I think the vehicle is easily worth far more than what I paid for it.Everything about the car is good, except for the quality of plastics and the lack of an AT option.I'd love to get my hands behind an AT XUV steering ! Haven't heard of M&M planning one.

Did take a snap of the screw that caused the puncture, but the snap is shaky. So didn't put it up here. Interestingly the screw was a star-headed one. From a humble iron nail to normal screw to star-headed screw made from good quality steel...even punctures are becoming hi-tech.

The puncture was bang in the center of the tyre's width. There are 2 grooves that run along the periphery of the tyre. The screw was lodged in one of those grooves. To give an apprximate idea, the second-last picture shows the repair-patch jutting out from the hole created by the puncture.

If you drive an XUV, you can get up at 4:30am, start from Panjim-Goa at 6am in the morning, drive practically non-stop for 12 hours (except 2-3 photography breaks and a 30 minute lunch-break), reach Mumbai at 6pm, unload the long-weekend luggage, relax for a couple of hours, have dinner and then again get behind the wheel at 10pm for dropping your parents to the airport, come back from airport by 3:30am, sleep for 3 hours, report to duty the next morning and churn out a day's work without too much of trouble.

I did this on 18th Aug and no, I am not a 20 something bubbling with energy.

That's why owners like me love the XUV5OO!

Very close to 15,000kms. Yes, the vehicle has stabilized. No issues since the 2nd servicing.
