I myself fixed the same for my laura as the old one got broken. Mine ( ticket holder)had a hole and i screwd it to the A-pillar( body of the car). When i removed the A pillar cover, i could find only a single spot wit screw hole towards the downside.
your car dont have a screw hole?

Just fixed one on the driver-side A-pillar. The A-pillar had a few holes but none with threads (had a quick look) so stuck it with double sided tape.

re: Gannu's VW Polo GT TDI ownership log : 35,000 km up!

Have some things lined up which I shall share shortly.

In the meantime, the car is now serving as my daily workhorse since the beginning of May. My workplace is located 51 km from the home and the roads are a mix of busy 2-lane and 4-lane roads. Since I am the lone commuter, I observe the following in order to extract the maximum fuel efficiency:

- Extremely sedate driving with 80-85 kmph average speeds and the speed warning in the MID set at 95 kmph.

- No hard acceleration or braking.

- AC temperature set to 24’ C.

And for the last tankful, she returned a healthy average of 20.81 kmpl!

At the fuel pump just before refueling:

Fuel filled = 41 l:

EDIT: The car crossed this landmark few days back.

Even temperature was 33'C which a colleague pointed out!

Always refuel car when its quarter tank. Going below that puts additional pressure on fuel pump and chances of sediments at tank bottom going through fuel line. Even manual mentions about it.

Just take care that you don't lug the engine to get max economy. Always maintain rpm above 1500.

I prefer refueling when the needle goes to the reserve marking and the low fuel warning is lit up on the gauge.

The engine is never stressed. Gear shifts happen as it used to previously; just that I don't go beyond 90 kmph now.

Hearty congrats on that wonderful figures and experiences! In that pic, your trip meter too shows all multiples of 3 if you notice.

And i must say, this is one amazing thread! Every page is filled with details and it turns out to be a great experience going through your thread! Plus, a GT TDI is a car that I've been dreaming for too!

Wishing you infinitely more miles in your car!

During city drives i generally amble around in the 3rd gear with RPM at 1000-1200 (almost zero throttle). The car comfortable catches speeds upto 40-50 kmph. Will this kill my engine?

Infact, during sedate driving at 70-80 KMPH, the car itself suggests an up shift to the 6th gear where the RPM drops to 1200 rpm. Mostly I shift as per the car suggestions.

What am I doing wrong?

re: Gannu's VW Polo GT TDI ownership log : 35,000 km up!

It suggests based on your driving style. My GT TSI will lug the engine if driven with a light foot. It up shifts to 7th gear at 60 and it's stupid.
It's always recommended to keep the rpm above 1500.
And once a month or so, give the car a thrashing and drive it above 3k RPM (preferably redline it) to reduce the carbon deposits.

re: Gannu's VW Polo GT TDI ownership log : 35,000 km up!

Hi Gannu,

I took delivery of my GT Tdi in Dec-14. Since then I have not been able to take it out for a long drive and till date it has run for approx 827 Kms. However every 4-5 days, I run the car (on idle) to keep the battery charged. Now my query is whether I should top up the engine oil or not. (I have not checked the engine oil level). Can you please guide me how to check the engine oil level and top it up. i.e. any measuring container is available which has to be used ?. Please excuse for the silly question.

IMHO, no. Since you haven't used the car much, the engine oil level would have been unaffected.

Time to refer the owner’s manual?

Assuming the car is parked a plane surface, pop up the hood and pull out the dipstick (highlighted in the snap below):

Source: TBHP official review

Clean the dipstick end using a cloth, insert it again completely and pull it out. Notice the level:

The level should be within A. If it is in the region B, the level has to be replenished.

PS: Do read the owner’s manual. There are several things which would be new to you. The screw jack for instance, is different than the usual car jacks.

re: Gannu's VW Polo GT TDI ownership log : 35,000 km up!

Thanks. But how do you top it up ?. Do you use any measuring cup or do it by trial and error? i.e. pour a small qty and then check.

I did by trial and error.

Pour approx. 100 mL (the 1L container has a quantity indicator on the taller side; use that as a rough measure), check the dipstick and repeat if needed.

Fixed an appointment with VW Navsari for tomorrow evening and spoke with the service head. I never knew Navsari had an authorized service center (being a small town) until my friend told me so. He had taken the delivery of the new Vento TDI few weeks back from the same dealership. Let’s see how this goes.
Yes that's me.
Now that your experience was good enough, let me say that You are always welcome Gannu

And when are we meeting next mate, because I am planning to change the headlamps and wanted to talk to you about it.

Catch you soon.

Sweet! IIRC someone did post this clip on the forums before.

As for the car, she returned a healthy 22.6 kmpl during the last tankful. Proof:

The trip meters are always reset when I fill up the tank. Lots of things have turned up. I am waiting for a few consignments to arrive. Shall share everything here (as always) when I receive them. Stay tuned!
